OT: Did the Pats Consider Trading Brady Instead of Bledsoe After SB 36?

They aren't comparable really.

Foles was a journeyman QB who got hot at the right time. But there was a large sample size showing he wasn't very good. He was QB for my team. He stunk.

Brady had no sample size. He took over and won a SB his first real year starting. The signs were there he was going to be very good. Nothing seemed fluky. Obviously nobody could've imagined he would become the GOAT QB.

Very true, and it really does work both ways in any situation. Patriots could easily be 9-0 in Super Bowls this century too.

I think our real competitive window begins to open in 2022. This year I'm just looking for a competitive team that's fun to watch and can give other teams fits. Last year wasn't quite in that category.

I had to go back and research this as I was very young at the time. I'm assuming Bledsoe was as good as gone once Brady was named the starter in the SB. But was there any discussion at all about trading Brady while his value was high? Thus, Bledsoe would remain the starter in 02 and beyond?

For the fan base, was there any animosity at the Pats for: A) Trading Bledsoe and B) Doing it in division? Or, was it pretty unanimous that Brady was the guy moving forward?

Looking back it seems like a silly discussion to even have. But at the time things might've been different.

Also, the fact they traded him in the division tells me they ultimately didn't fear playing Bledsoe twice a year. Crazy to think about.

Butler saw the play in practice, diagnosed it on the field and executed. The play happened because he was well-prepared. That's part of football too.

How often do you see a team get picked off at the goal line with 20 seconds left? Honestly, if that scenario played out 100 times, it likely ends in a Seattle TD 99 times. But...the Tyree catch was one in a million too. A catch, btw, that could've been averted had a certain cornerback done his job.

I am not saying he is making the INT every time, but he certainly breaks up the play every time. He even beat the pick play. He knew what was coming and acted on it.

Passing was not a bad decision. The play they ran was. Passing in heavy traffic is very risky.

Play-action, corner pass to a TE or something like that would have been a better call.

Carroll was going to run on 3rd down if is passing play failed. He kept his TO for that very reason and that's why passing on 2nd (or 3rd) down made sense. He did it on 2nd down, because if he ran on 2nd down and failed, he would have had to stop the clock and running on 3rd down would have become VERY risky. So, in my mind, passing on 2nd down was smart.

Long story short, I shouldn't have made this thread. Brady was the consensus starter going forward. The fact the team traded Bledsoe to the Bills makes it clear they didn't think much of his football abilities anymore.
