We all need to temper our expectations

Don't really think it was luck. If we didn't have these, I'm pretty sure BB would have never pulled the trigger on Cam. He would have had Mac riding the pine for this year.

Please change threrad to thread, thanks. :)
Briiey hhueight sspellllchickkkk.

You dont draft a QB if Stidham is not a benchwarmer.

Fredo has been passed over twice now. Hes not smaht and cant handle things.

I think we can look at Carlson Wentz as a good reference of what could go well and what could go wrong here in this situation. Although he didn't come from a big school running a pro style offense, he started right off the bat and caused a good impression, he's had a good first couple years and in general, with a feel different circumstances we could be talking now about a SB champion and maybe a QB in a different tear, instead, when things start to go wrong some of this guys can derail really fast.

One aspect of Brady no one talks about is his mental strength, I have seen very few athletes on that level, and it's not by coincidence they win so much and are the goats, I can think of Brady, Jordan, Rafael Nadal, Ayrton Senna. In Brady's case if he didn't have that factor, he could very well stopped at 3 rings and be retired for quite some time. I'm mentioning that because I don't think we can expect even 40% of that from any of those young dudes. Brady is an old guy raised in a different society with different standards and that translates to accountability and many other things.

The Eagles didn't screw him up like the Colts did with Luck and many other examples but they had some management problems, QB controversy, players talking too much and even Carlson, at some point someone should have put him in his place. Problems I don't think we can worry about in a Patriots environment with BB running the ship.

Mac is in a perfect situation, he doesn't need to carry the team, just be a game manager and do not screw up while he develops to become a franchise QB some years from now. I think we got very luck with this draft.

We were 7-9. How many game is each of these worth?

1) QB
adding Jones
cutting Newton

2) OFFENSE
adding Smith, Henry, Agholor, Bourne, Stevenson
improvement is Asiasi

3) DEFENSE
adding Hightower, Van Noy, Judon, Godchaux
improvement in Uche

Should be an improvement for sure but losing Gilmore is HUGE.

Gilmore gone for the year? I missed the transaction.
He is gone 6 and maybe more if they don't get his contract done. I assume he stays on the bench until week 10 and then we get him the final 7 because he does not want his contract to toll. That is HUGE to me.

Man Adam Jones is insufferable. Already saying that Mac Jones will be an average QB and has a low ceiling. And team will go nowhere

Kid hasn't even played a regular season game yet

Adam Jones thrives on controversy and bombasity, every time you mention his name a cute little girl's kitten dies..

Jones is WAY ahead of where Brady was at this stage of his career.
Imagine if that is a continuing trend, not a status. By the end of year two, he'll be so far ahead of Brady we won't even use him as the reference point.
Just sayin'.

I say +5 wins, but we also need to factor in the increased competition or improved opponent rosters as well....so...-2....= 3+ wins or 10-7 at worst, IMO.

I don't know man, this is a really good roster with really good coaches. It's not perfect but only a couple teams come close. Should be able to win ten with this roster, even with rookie QB growing pains. He doesn't have to do it by himself, other units can pick up the passing game sometimes if it's not doing the job. Windows in terms of how to keep the offense productive will open and close over the course of the season, as long as our coaching staff can adjust with some fluidity, it should be at least league average.

The defense should be top third with the potential to be top 5-10 in the league. If the offense can rank 15th or so and the defense 10th or so with a typically solid special teams effort, that's a team that's going to be at least a couple games over .500 barring issues with turnovers and such.

I think anywhere from nine to eleven wins is pretty reasonable. For what it's worth, that's generally where Vegas has their over/under for the Patriots.

Yup, I agree....IMO, Jones is at Brady's 2002 level right now....

Prior to this football year I expected a really good effort to bring this team back to relevance. I got it so there's that! How successful they become is my gift for supporting the Patriots efforts. (But... I keep going back to 2001 :excited:)

i see im not the only one INFURIATED by this!

You are definitely not. A fair amount of the posts now make no sense... and not for the reason that normally happens. Usually the shark jumps and wtf happen organically

I am really excited for the 2021 defense even starting without Gilmore, I think the secondary is better with Dugger and Williams improvement. Judon, Uche and Barmone seem primed to have big seasons, All we need is Mac to be 2001 Brady

The old Parcells teams.

Vs the Bills in the Super Bowl, Buffalo was clearly the more explosive team with that offense. No other team has gone to 4 consecutive Super Bowls. Tuna Parcells held the ball as long as possible keeping Kelly on the sidelines. Death by a thousand paper cuts. Granted, Norwood missed the FG FTW, but it never should have came down to that.

Without ever playing in an actual regular season NFL game?

What could possibly go wrong.
