Official 2021 Cutdown Day Thread

Just makes too much sense. This team is built for NOW.

Mac going down and Hoyer coming in would be an unmitigated disaster.
shouldn't be too expensive either. It doesn't really make sense for the bears to keep all 3 imo. Esp with Fields looking good in limited action so far. I'd prefer a vet who has been in the league for quit some time now over a i don't know second or third year backup still on his rookie contract.

I don't know why anyone is talking about another back up other than Hoyer. We all talk about how difficult THIS offense is to master, especially for the QB, right? So why then do you think it would be a good idea that we trade or pick up some QB that is completely unfamiliar with the offense OR the language necessary to communicate, LESS than 2 weeks before the start of the season. Does that make ANY sense at all?

Sure there ARE some guys that I might like better (like Dalton) than Hoyer, but he is what we have. He's a guy who knows the offense, and has had some moderate success winning games in the NFL. Besides Stidham will eventually return and hopefully beat him out for the #2 job. Then if Stridham isn't the answer at #2, then we can upgrade next year.
I can understand the points about the offense completely but i have not much confidence in Hoyer or Stidham to help us win games, actually it's more likely they make life harder for our team. Just remember the KC game last year. Hoyer played bad unfortunately even though he is an experienced guy especially in the system, but he made rookie mistakes. And that Stidham did not play instead of Hoyer who was bad, is a bad sign imo. Plus he misses at least the first 6 games, so i think Foles would be a nice addition but there are maybe other options as well I haven't thought of

Just to clarify for me , even if Hoyer comes back , we would still be looking for another QB to back up Jones ???

I'll even throw in Stidham lol

Biggest priority for me is backup QB.

Hoyer is fine as a QB3 but as THE backup is not good.

God forbid something happens to Mac the season is ovah.

I'd trade for Nick Foles ASAP.
Isn't that pretty much the expectation with most if not all NFL teams?

Then add in all the stuff we hear about how hard it is for QBs to pick up 'our system'.

Given how our future really is tied to Mac, maybe we're better off losing if he isn't available, it'll improve our draft position.

Reason I asked is that Stidham is on PUP , I assume one of Stidham or Hoyer would be released ?

QB is not exactly a plug and play position with the Patriots.

I never understand why this forum spends so much time complaining about past draft picks. They are over and done with/
Yeah, it's hard to understand.

Failed draft picks are like failed relationships. You go into them thinking one thing, but after being up close and personal with that person you learn a lot more, and in many cases you cut them out of your life, and then you move on hopefully having learned something from the experience.

Then there are other people who cling to exes, feel butthurt when they do well, or hate on them for eternity for not being what they wanted them to be, instead of just moving on It's absurd.

yes and Hoyer sucks.

Foles has talent and is the best, most experienced avail.

Absolutely not.

I'd trade for Nick Foles ASAP.

A few days ago I suggested a Foles for Newton trade on Reddit. Someone mentioned Foles is got a pretty high cap # for a backup ($8m IIRC) so that's something to keep in mind if we're trading.

Sounds like you have higher overall expectations for this team than I do, or higher expectations of what Nick Foles could do for this team if acquired, or view every game Hoyer starts as an automatic loss, or some combination of all of these.

I think BB and staff are comfortable with Hoyer as a fill-in that can at least keep us competitive against weaker teams, are comfortable with his relatively low salary demands and future aspirations, and aren't comfortable bringing in a new QB without a training camp to coach him up.

I think Foles salary is reasonable ( Nick Foles ), but I think he doesn't think of himself as a pure backup at this stage of his career and probably thinks he deserves more money than we'd give him long term so wouldn't be happy.

Oh, and having the 'Philly Special' guy on our team? Fuk dat!

Jones #1
Hoyer #2
Stidham #3

I think that's plan...IMO.
I think they bring back Dolegala on the PS (I believe he's available again) as a layer of security until Stidham can come off the PUP in 6 weeks. At that point there should be less of a roster crunch and they'll carry all 3 guys, but if they need to float someone they can probably move Hoyer to the PS and bring him back as necessary since his salary will have been guaranteed from being on the week 1 roster (assuming they bring him back today).

By mid-season my guess (or at least my hope) is Stidham would become the #2 since he SHOULD have more upside than Hoyer if Mac gets hurt but who knows.

I'm a In BB I Trust guy but I do not agree with Hoyer being #2. No way in hell.

I think they have a pretty good team. Need some help at WR and CB but are pretty solid.

LOL. Well, hes won a SB. Gotta give him credit. He keeps his mouth shut and is a good backup QB
