I didn’t tell you we don’t cut draft picks. We do.
What I said is they don’t make up injuries and out players on IR and have them take a year off of football. It makes no sense to either the team or the player and both would have to be complicit.
It makes perfect sense for a player who knows he is completely in over his head and whose only other choice is getting fired. It makes perfect sense for a team who thinks with another year in the system, in their training regimen and with another camp that said player might develop but don't believe he's ready to compete this year... so even a practice squad spot would be wasted on him. Both player and team are acutely aware when someone isn't good enough.

No.
For the player, he can go to another team and play football.
For the team, when you are on IR you don’t spend a year in the system, you go home. You can’t practice, or go to meetings.
If Dawson were healthy he would have been cut and signed with another team.

They just cut Will Sherman, the guard they just drafted… explain to me again how it doesn’t happen.

Sixth round picks get cut all the time. 3rd round picks almost NEVER do.

EDIT: To clarify, I mean in their first year.

Another team doesn't want a bad player either. Teams can give said player a regimen, they can place them in the care of third party coaches and trainers to work on weaknesses and allow them to study the playbook.

Dawson got beat out by JC Jackson... period, and the Pats didn't want to give up on him completely so he magically got injured and tried again next year... he still wasn't good enough so they traded him to Denver to recoup some draft capital. We'll have to agree to disagree, you believe teams have a moral obligation to follow the rules to a tee... sounds like real life.

Denver traded for him the next year.

Well first of all they have to follow the rules. Despite your conspiracy theories. Secondly a player would never sit out healthy when they can go somewhere else and play football. Third it’s ridiculous to think a player isn’t good enough so we are going to pay him to go home, have nothing to do with football and hope he is a different player next year. Fourth if no one else wants them why do you have to protect their rights on IR? Fifth if they had value and were healthy and no one wants them, then you put them on the practice squad.
It only happens in your conspiracy theory fantasy world.

Denver traded for him August 30th after another camp where Dawson wasn't going to make the team. It's not ridiculous to believe a player will pay a rookie who makes peanuts not to play but to develop, happens all the time. And rookie players have no leverage to demand a team cut them instead and hope they make a roster elsewhere when teams have just paired down to 53.

Again... agree to disagree. That you believe this rises to the level of a "conspiracy" shows a total lack of awareness.

First I was told they wouldn’t cut a draft pick, then I was told they didn’t make up injuries to give developing players more time…

I’m trying to figure out how we get rid of lesser players every year when we break a 90 man roster down to 53 when close to 10-15 of them are either drafted or UDFA rookies?

Bill will either cut them outright, trade them or place them on the IR with an injury nobody say them get. In the case of Duke Dawson it was a hamstring, he was healthy up until the moment they had to make cuts and his hamstring broke… but it doesn’t happen.
The cut 6th and 7th rounders all the time. They''re all crapshoots.

Draftees in every round fail all the time, the average NFL career last three years.

They hit on Mac, Barmore and Stevenson… we’re not entitled to all the draft picks working out… no matter what the “BB sucks” misanthropes tell us.
