Patriots Training Camp Day 17 8/25- Joint Practice with Giants

I have a friend who works at Gillette and is connected to the training staff. He had told me about the Gronk unretire/trade to Tampa a couple of weeks before it happened. I posted a thread on it if you want to check. I am not saying he is rock solid or besties with Bill but his info is usually correct which is why I post it here.

I would believe that. Cam has to lose the job as opposed to handing it to Mac after a good day.

I will respect your word. We'll see.

Like I said, I am not posting it to try to pump up myself or to fan the flames. My friend is a great guy and pretty legit with what he shares.
I also don't think what he said is earth shattering. I don't think a couple of good practice days by Jones is enough to unseat Cam yet. Although I truly hope that does happen sooner rather than later.

I wonder if Shannahan is reading the Mac reports screaming at Lynch.
Remember the original rumor was they were set on Mac then last minute Lynch went Balls to the wall for Lance.
I remember watching Jones light it up in the title game and thought well if BB really wants Jones he needs to get in the top 3

I'm very much on the start Mac week 1 bandwagon. The rookie contract is just too important to waste. And the first year is generally a learning experience anyway. Something probably will happen at some point to open the door for Mac, but what is it doesn't? Should we be prepared for the possibility he sits all year? I'm not. BB shouldn't allow the possibility to exist either.

We also need to remember as a general rule. A QBs first year of playing in the NFL and going into the playoffs almost always ends in a loss, even for the best ones. The difference here may well be between a 3 year to 4 year championship window. That is a 33% difference, which is huge.
Pretty much all rookie QB's are bad. You just want to make sure they're the "right kind of bad" to see if you can develop them later.

Generally teams try to indoctrinate all rookies year one. Teach what it's like to be a "Patriot", how they do this & that - a lot of "Hey this is the ****ing NFL, we don't do that here. This is how you'll do it from now on" ... Year 2 is when teams really try to sharpen someone's skill set.

Mac has been fast-tracked. All summer he's got the ball out faster, looked more decisive & besides velocity has better arm talent than Cam. He'll struggle, have ups & downs but won't be overwhelmed. Almost no difference in ceiling. It's not like we're a SB team with Cam but going 6-10 with Mac.

Landing spot, draft slot, shapes a prospect maybe more than anything else. Out of all the QB's he landed in the best position by far. That's enormous all prospects but esp for QB's.

Mac has carried the load the last 3 days and threw a ton of passes today (comparable to an actual game). Cam hasn’t practiced for 3 days. Frankly it makes sense for Cam to get the majority of the reps tomorrow just to 1) catch him up for the time he missed, and 2) give Jones a rest.

But if Cam looks rusty tomorrow, it’ll be interesting to see what happens from there.

Also the Giants may just suck. Pretty sure they do actually. Lol

Trying to get your friend fired? Haha

So your bud is texting out tomorrow's QB lineup in between glute rub downs 2 hours after practice?

Multitasking magic fingers!

That's the only way we're keeping Warring. Two other teams tried to claim him and will likely do so again.
Yeah, but in the meantime, BB gets a closer look and sees if we want him again if he becomes available down the line.

I am still hoping they keep J.Johnson as a FB/4th tight end....but I probably cant justify it.

Sure ya can.

Pats are going to run a bunch this year.

He is your lead fullback. He played 35% of the snaps last year.

He will also line up at TE.

He can catch.

He also played 170 snaps on STs.

He is cheap.

He is absolutely making this team.
