PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Day 6 Training Camp Thread- Tuesday August 3rd

How far we've come - cheering because Harry actually caught a pass... in a 1-on-1 drill... in training camp. The fact that that makes news and has people talking about his potential is insane.
I cheer for every player on the Pats - because the better they play, the more fun I have watching them.

EDIT: And let me add, while I can root for the other guys behind Harry on the chart, Harry has the physical tools to do things they can't, like become a big, physical possession receiver who can just box out DBs. If he can put it together, that's a nice add to complement the three clear locks in Bourne, Agholor, and Meyers. If he can't, next guy up.

The thing is, it’s not like he hasn’t done it before in TC. He had a good camp his rookie season. He’s underwhelming (and that’s putting it lightly) when the games actually count. Maybe the fact that the team made some pretty stark changes at the position has lit a fire under his ass. We can hope.
He got injured in his first training camp and there wasn’t much of a training camp because of covid last year, so…. Yes it is like he hasn’t done it before.

There WILL be a 3 or 4 INT day in his future too. Happens to all. Hopefully it's in camp/practice setting or preseason contest, but not guaranteed. As you stated, the key is how he bounces back (or if). How well and quickly does he correct issues? Do the set backs cause not just reflection, but growth?

Confidence is key. Faith in your ability, tempered with realization that inevitably there is a day that just isn't yours. Circadian rhythms, bad fight with a girlfriend, cheeseburger had mustard on it...whatever - the list of things that can contribute to a crappy "day at the office" aren't just football related.
None other than Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr threw 3 in the NFCCG last season. He ended up alright.

There was enough of a TC last year to see him start off strong and not do much the remainder of camp.

Harry has had his share of buzzard's luck but he hasn't exactly set the world on fire either.

I like how some people seemed to be overjoyed that Mac wasn’t 100% in his completion percentage throughout camp. People seem to want to see him fail.

Meanwhile, it took 6 practices before he threw his first INT. I believe Cam is up to 3 INTs so far. Anyway, I’m rooting for both QBs to do great, it’ll help the Pats tremendously, and it’ll help Cam earn a good sized contract elsewhere if he does really well next year.

To be fair the media has been weird. You can tell who is biased. An article will say Cam going against first-team elite secondary threw for 50% but Mac throwing 50% against 2nd team defense was a great or better day. And I think people are going to have some sick twisted views come regular season where they want Cam to fail for several weeks in order to make the case for Mac.

There's definitely some bias, but it's also just really hard to evaluate practice plays without knowing specifically what they're working on. So you have a lot of observers, each looking for their own things, and reading a play they aren't privy to in their own internal voice.

*Tedy Bruschi made another appearance at camp and was seen chatting with former teammate Troy Brown on the field prior to practice. Bruschi also said hello to rookie Mac Jones when the quarterback came out to warm up. He later spent several minutes with Belichick. After practice he joined rookie Ronnie Perkins for some 1-on-1 work. Perkins, like Bruschi, had more of a defensive line background in college and is looking to add some linebacker responsibilities as a Patriot.

*Kyle Van Noy was seen doing sprints on the lower rehab field during the latter part of practice.

*Quinn Nordin handled the field goals at the end of practice and appeared to make four out of five attempts ranging from 30-46 yards.

I am going to maintain that Mac has to beat Cam soundly in camp and pre-season to win the job. 50/50 or even 60/40, the vet wins out. It's going to have to be plainly obvious that Mac is choice. Cam gets the nod due to experience and the fact that BB has named him starter. This is 2021, not 2020.

It’s not just the media being weird, the people here have some weird reactions depending on their agenda. I want both QBs to do extremely well. Whoever wins, great, then we have a top notch backup for this year.

Ideally if Cam wins, it would probably be the best case scenario, giving Mac a year to learn. I’m rooting for both guys to do great things. I’m a Patriot’s fan.

i see it as Cam starts the season, gets hurt, and Jones takes over. I doubt Newton can make it through the entire season without getting injured.

I'm actually very happy with his 9/14 today. Not shabby at all with 1st day in pads. I think he's constantly improving quite a bit and 30 days from now...I think Cam may be in trouble. We'll see.

I know these views are all retreads. I mean, I agree with @reflexblue that Cam is basically like jaguars used to be, except not a luxury product unless it's 2015. To wit, they come with a mechanic chained to them. If he's Superman there is a lot of green kryptonite in fieldturf is all I'm sain. That said, may he suddenly become as durable as whatever is extremely durable, I dunno, Tom Brady, and also as good and may he win everything forever amen, but if that doesn't happen, hope Mac does. And vice versa. Seriously, the story is more if he doesn't have a bounceback year. It's like, drop a sack of flour from the empire state building and you'll be able to detect some sort of burlap bounce in with all the vectors of the flour explosion. I think. Might need the high-speed for it. **** now I need to go to New York...

It's been reported that Mac is a quick study a good learner. Now is the time for him to make his mistakes, so that he can improve upon them before it's showtime. I want a lot of **** thrown at him, with his history to date, he'll improve steadily from it.

Yes. I'd like to hear from reporters in a week or 2 that have also seen Jimmy G and give their opinion of Jones' progress compared to him. It's impossible for a rookie to not make mistakes...but he is learning fast and that's all you can ask.

I’m ecstatic. I hope he fails miserably. I ****ing hate this team.
