You can make a case for keeping Newton as a placeholder, until Mac is ready to start.

On the other hand I was already having trouble making a case for retaining N'Keal, and that was before this evening's laughable commentary from his agent.

Yeah, you have to assume that Meyers is ahead of him (because he already beat him out last year), and Agholor and Bourne are ahead of him based on the investment made in them. Gunner is a "lock" due to ST, which leaves Harry as MAYBE your 4th WR on the field. But given we're likely running a lot of heavier sets, your 4th WR really needs to be able to do some work on ST, which Harry doesn't seem to be interested in (or capable of) doing. And that's not even accounting for whether he would actually be the 4th best WR on the team (Zuber and Nixon probably have more upside at this point). There's just no place for him on this team really.

Cam at least is a .500 level starter who has the respect of his teammates. Even if Mac wins the job, so long as Cam isn't pouting you're not typically going to find a better backup than that in the later stages of an offseason.

Cam hasn’t produced like a former MVP. But at least in his case (1) he has shown up (2) put the effort and (3) is respected by his teammates.

This crybaby act Harry is pulling baffles me. Like, who do you think you are and what trade value do you believe is merited ?!? What team would give any value for NH ?

Cam is the best QB on the team and you want to trade him????????????

For what at his age? You would be cutting a fat hog getting a 4th round pick.

Harry is worth even less.

I would keep Cam out of the two, as I believe he is more valuable as the bridge QB to Mac than Harry is as the likely 4th or 5th receiver on this team. I think there is a possibility Cam can turn things around a bit and have a better season than he did last year. I'm not seeing many targets for Harry in this offense.

Weird false dichotomy to present considering they aren't fighting for a single spot and we could easily keep both or neither. Cam sucks but he's still a top 2 QB on this roster so it would be pretty stupid to get rid of him. Harry has been on his way out since free agency.

While I think Cam will indeed be on the roster, I’ll play devil’s advocate.

the reasons you might dump Cam :

*he only wants to be a starter and Jones is chosen over him
*you figure you’re all in w Jones and even if he needs replacing (for whatever reason) you decide you’re better off just going with Stidham or Hoyer
*you see that because of Cam’s stature and popularity that the only way the team moves forward is off Cam isn’t in the locker to take over.
*big personality who isn’t on the field is never to the advantage of a BB run team.

It's needs to be Harry. Immediately. His agent spoke for him. That's it. He is done.

I think we need more time on Cam. If Mac wins the job out of camp, i'm confident BB and Cam will have an adult conversation and respectfully listen to what each other wants moving forward. I don't see Cam running to Bus and asking for him to publicly demand a trade.

Sure, if any of those were true, it would give Cam a chance of not making the cut. I just don't think any of those things are actually the case and I'm not sure you do either.

Cam seems like a legitimately good teammate, and potential reasons #1, 3, 4 boil down to the idea that he isn't. #2 is based on the delusional idea that Hoyer is better than anyone.

Maybe if Stidham actually starts showing something.

Agreeing. Cam likely makes the team & has a good chance of starting.

But the league is full of egomaniacs. I don’t think you want to keep Cam if he isn’t your starter.

If Mac is kicking ass, the Cam situation will be a must-watch.

The wild-card here is Stid the Kid. It would also be very interesting if Stid has a lights-out camp and preseason.

If he shows a ton of progress and maturity, would BB want to give up on a ~25 year old QB to keep Cam (if Cam wants to say) when he already has Hoyer as the mentor to Mac?

I'm in the minority....Cam goes and Harry stays. I still think Harry has some potential to be an ok WR. Years 1 he had Brady and it is a known FACT Tom was pissy about throwing to rooks and last year Cam was throwing to him. He won't ever be a WR1 or 2 but I still think he could develop into the 3-4 range. It's not pretty but he did more then double his yards and catch % went up..

I'm not ok with Cam ruining 2021. Harry can't ruin the season...he has very little impact on the outcome of games.
