Mahomes says he is eyeing a 20-0 season

I don’t think most NFL fans realize the amount of JAGs starting for the Chiefs on both sides of the ball. They were a 11-12 win team last year based on point differential.

Mahomes, Kelce & Hill cover up alot. They are about to go through what the 2009 pats went through with weak secondary options in the passing game & one of the top 2 players aging in Kelce.

It's possible. Unlikely but possible. Mahomes is a good enough QB to pull off an undefeated season if he has the cast around him and everything falls right for him.

That being said, 20-0 for this year isn't going to happen for KC. The schedule isn't overly hard, but isn't easy. Their defense while good isn't amazing. They aren't as good going into this year as they were last year. Everyone is talking about their OL... but their OL was fine GOING INTO that season. While it should be better this year than last year, they took some hits on both sides of the ball. Losing Watkins is going to have an impact. They also have yet to address the loss of Breeland IMO. So right now they are a bit worse on both sides of the ball on the whole.

Don't make egregious holds on every play and you won't get called for the ticky tack ones
Well they earned a reputation for doing that but refs need to throw the flags on those and not try make up for it by calling penalties on questionable holds.

That's like asking refs to not be human. It's like how you buy a car and then you see that car on the road everywhere. Once they have the perception that your team holds, they are going to see it more.

What I find interesting is Mahomes is not talking about getting a second ring. He wants the perfect season which kind of speaks to his mental outlook. I always thought he was similar to Brady with the focus on winning but this comment speaks of a guy who is not interested in getting a second ring which has always separated the good QBs from the great ones. It is a strange comment at this point of his career only 3 seasons having gotten beaten twice by Brady. You would think he would be talking one game at a time and getting back to the Bowl to get back the ring that Brady took from him.

If he goes undefeated, he'll have gotten his second ring.

Mike Evans absolutely abused Breeland all game. I have never seen a CB more undressed than he was other than maybe King for the Packers.

Of course, but the goal is always to win the SB first, not trying to go undefeated. Like I said, strange comment from him 3 seasons in especially since he was curb stomped in the SB and his team looked they were sleep walking for most of last year.

Still a little ticky tac for me.

Some were. The only thing I’ll point out here is that NFL officials, especially prior to the SB, talk to teams about what they’re going to call, and it was obvious early on that they were calling it tight in the secondary. Despite their European Futball theatrics, I get the sense the Chiefs players were indeed a lot less surprised than fans.

The calls that stood out to me.

  • Defensive holding (negated Brady INT). I thought that one was pretty ticky tack. One that just doesn't get called often. If they hadn't called it, then it would have played right into my projection that the Bucs would shoot themselves in the foot by throwing to Fournette/Jones, resulting in a turnover from a tipped ball, or a bobble.

  • PI on Mathieu in end zone (on Evans). I just didn't get that call...it was the one right before halftime. It looked like he Mathieu was barely touching him, unless the ref could see a clearer angle with a jersey grab, but I didn't see it. The ball was also really high and might have been uncatchable. On the next play, Brady hit AB for the touchdown.

  • PI on deep pass to Evans (also right before halftime.). This was the one where Evans got tripped up. It was the right call, and you can't rule that ball would be uncatchable because Evans could have possibly lunged for it, but it sure looked like a <5% chance that ball is caught. Just a bad and unnecessary penalty.

The Chiefs can blame their offensive line all they want, but they played like a bunch of morons. A handful of very bad penalties. There was also that egregious offsides on a field goal (!) which resulted in Gronkowski's second touchdown. How do you do something like that in a game of that magnitude?

Here's the clip. He was asked about records he'd like to break, and he spun that to his team winning every game. Since winning the SB isn't a record, his response makes more sense, in context, then saying "I want to win the Super Bowl".

"The only record I have my eyes set on breaking, which would be new this year, would be going 20-0," Mahomes said Sunday. "It's not really a record to be broken I guess you would say—19-0 is the record right now—so being able to go 20-0 and being the first one to do that, that would be awesome."

How is that at all strange?

Ah, thanks. As usual, the media did just a silly hot take with no context. Not sure why I just don't expect that every time.

We all get taken for that ride, sometimes.

The 2007 Patriots are as dominant of a team as you’re ever going to see in the salary cap era and they still had 4 close games including escaping by the skin of their teeth against the Ravens.

Good luck.

Do you remember people on this board last year worrying that the Steelers would run the table? That's a good lesson about the NFL.

Chiefs have a very real chance of losing week 1 to the Browns.

The Chiefs and Bucs both need to be very careful with their week 1 opponents, or we could see the SB teams each going 0-1 to start the season.

There is no way Dallas is beating the Bucs on the night they raise the banner.
