Bill 100% respects Cam and he's veteran leadership and work ethic. Cam is also no dummy and knows why Jones was selected. Bill isn't going to disrespect Cam to the media and say Jones is the guy. Jones has to earn it, just like everyone else.

I would also add Bill is continuing to masterfully manage the locker room. The players like and respect Cam because he plays hard and is a good dude.

For Bill to discard Cam in favor of an unproven player who has not earned the respect of the locker room as a leader and a teammate would be gross.

If Cam looks great they will ride Cam all year unless Jones shows he's better right now. I don't think they have any fear of sitting Mac 1 year if there is a more experienced guy in front of him who is playing well. Then Cam can sign a nice deal in free agency and NE will take the comp pick.

I personally think it'll be a fairly open competition. Yeah, Cam is the #1 QB today but they'll evaluate all the guys including Stidham. If Cam doesn't look much better than he did last year, but Stidham somehow looks much improved, they'll start Stidham. If Jones blows them away right away they'll start the rookie. Whoever gives them the best chance to win, whether that's raw playmaking or being less turnover-prone (*cough*Newton), they'll play that guy.

Yeah, I don't think Bill is the kind of guy who thinks you need to throw a rookie out there right away. If Cam balls out, maybe Mac benefits from a year on the bench working with McDaniels, learning the offense, working on his conditioning etc.

I mean alex smith started while Mahomes sat on the bench.

BUT if Cam newton looks like last year then I think you will see Mac Jones put in. Given he has a good camp.

He sucked because he sucks. He can't throw the ball and he makes terrible decisions. He was the worst starting quarterback in the league and it wasn't close.

It's April. Jones will be given every shot to win the starting job this summer. Belichick isn't going to hand over the reigns to the offense to a rookie the day he is drafted.
