Mac Jones interview: someone show BB 1:50 in this vid

I'm not sure it's up /that/ far. I mean, my impression earlier was that he wasn't considered a first rounder but more like second or third. I think he might be around at 15. I've seen him mocked to us there in a few drafts lately.
He’s probably #4 at this point, possibly even #3. I’m thinking the QBs are Lawrence, Wilson, Fields and then Jones. Hell, depending on team’s thoughts, Fields was pretty disappointing in the championship game, in fact, he really didn’t have a great season period, he may drop. And Lance, despite his great skills, may fall to the 5th QB taken. Crazy thing is all 5 may be gone before pick 15. The Pats may have to trade up to get a top 5 QB if they want one.

Jones met with Pats scouts at the Senior Bowl.

Ok ankle yes I know. So look at the prior year. Alabama put up 50 points every week but this kid was only getting 1 to 3 catches a week. The actual production isn't there. He's super fast but not a guy who is a move the chains, get 12 catches in a game guy. His game is taking a short slant and outrunning college DBs or catching a deep post. He doesn't fit this offense. And those game breaking plays likely won't happen against NFL DBs. He's going to be a bad pick where the Pats always over-value special teams and he'll be a 300 yard receiver on the Patriots.

I see what your saying and where your coming from on waddle. But you also have to look who was ahead of him at the time. He was behind jerry jeudy who was a first round pick, Henry Ruggs who was a first round pick, and devonta smith who went and won the heisman in his senior year( partly due to the fact that most of waddles targets went to smith after the injury). So if your looking at two years ago it was never going to be easy or even possible for him to take reps from those three receivers ahead of him as a sophomore, but nick saban still found ways to fit him in to the offense because of what he brings to the field. Now if your looking at this past year the first few weeks he played he was playing like a number one receiver on the team before the injury.

I completely understand the concern about taking him with the patriots track record at receiver lately. But I don’t think I see the same thing that you may be seeing when it comes to his game. I think he’s a comparable to Henry ruggs (I’m sorry about comparing him to a teammate because it may seem lazy) in the sense that they can win by running past a defender, but where the difference between them is that ruggs is a one cut and he’s gone type of receiver. Ruggs doesn’t make a defender miss nearly as often as waddle does. When looking at waddle he is by far the more sudden player between the two. I also think he can run good routes now but has the potential to improve as well as offering a more complete route tree.

I’m sorry for the long post and it being a late response. But at this point I can see jamar chase, devonta smith, and jaylen waddle being selected in the top 12. So this whole post is probably for nothing lol.

These are all fair points. To me a worse version of Ruggs (you admit he couldn't beat out any of them) is not worth the #15 overall pick. We have holes on DLine and LB. I think any speedster in this offense becomes Bethel Johnson. Our offense is built on moving the chains.

The NFL is littered with good - great Alabama WRs, RBs and TEs.

Henry Ruggs 452 yards and 2 TDs
Jerry Juedy 856 yards and 3 TDs

They look promising but the jury is still out.

Josh Jacobs 1065 yards and 12 TDs
Irv Smith 365 yards and 5 TDs
Damien Harris 691 yards and 2 TDs
Calvin Ridley 1374 yards and 9 TDs
Derrick Henry 2027 yards and 17 TDs
Kenyan Drake 955 yards and 10 TDs
Amari Cooper 1114 yards and 5 TDs

Where are all the good - great Alabama QBs?
Bart Starr, Joe Namath, and Ken Stabler. They all won the Super Bowl and they all are in the Hall of Fame.

that hasn’t happened since pioli. With Reese we traded up for Chandler Jones and Hightower. Traded up for Dugger and Winovich and Uche.
Wino & Uncle Dugg were trade-backs, though Uche, SloJuan & those two feckin useless feckin TEs were indeed trade-ups.

Some more tidbits. The kid sleeps every night at 9pm, hydrates constantly, uses all his free time to study tape, coaches call him obsessed with football and obsessed with getting better. Sounds like someone.

Does anyone know if we had guys at his pro day? Been reported we had someone at Lance's and have someone at Wilson's today (which seems ambitious), but I don't recall hearing about Jones?

Lets pump the brakes. Mac Jones while an excellent pickup, isn't going to be the starting QB for the Patriots so let's not get excited.

Someone made a side by side clip of Mac Jones throws and similar Tom Brady plays.

SF was at #12. Imagine knowing you could have had Mac instead of spending 3 1st round picks for Lance....

They still could have had Mac at #3. But they decided to pass on him for Trey Lance. 3 years from now, will that look like the right move? Who knows. It's going to be interesting. Mac Jones has 4 pictures on his bedroom wall now - Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, and Justin Fields. Can he prove to the NFL teams who passed on him that they made the wrong decision?
