What would a trade up to 7 cost

QB is the most important position, but you can't mortgage your future to get one (even Mahomes).
Giving up bundles of draft picks up is not mortgaging the future. Free agency can fill in the gaps (see pats this off season). Player like Mahomes are amazingly fun to watch whether you win the Superbowl or not. KC fans will have a lot of fun watching him over the next 10+ years.

Jones is not on my list. I dont think he is worth trading up for and would be fine risking that he falls to 15. If he doesn't that means horn, parson, or surtain has fallen and I would rather have one of them plus davis mills in the 2nd then giving up capital for Jones. IMO regardless of who they draft the rookie is going to need to sit for half a year to a year and get up to NFL speed learning from Cam. Which is why I prefer the upside of Lance or Fields both of whom I think could be excellent starters with a year of understudy to Cam. Rookie QBs don't win championships for a reason and I do not understand the people who think trading an entire draft for a "first round QB" will magically transform the pats into Superbowl contenders. This is about next year when Cam is gone and I want to give a rookie the same treatment Brady, Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers got. That no pressure year to grow is so important and while I think Cam is a bottom 1/3rd starter in the league he is a solid vet with a great work ethic I wouldn't be horribly upset with either of Lance/Fields modelling.
I am fine with Parsons in the first round and Davis mills in the second, assuming it works out that way. Bill, keep it simple don’t overthink it.

If they are targeting a specific QB in 1st round. Fine. If they cannot get that kid, wait till 2022 as there are a number of QB prospects in the 1st round.

I’ve gripeabout giving up too much for QB4. Fields is QB2 and I would move up to 7 to get him.

Wilson and Lance never played a big college football game. There were no fans and noise at games last year. Football was basically a scrimmage last year. NFL too. People are gonna be surprised when some of these young qb’s aren’t what they were last year.

Fields was good in 2019 too. His first year at OSU

If Sewell is on the board at 7, the cost is going to be prohibitive. my guess is they want next year's 1st as the sweetener. Does the Denver GM tell elway who is still his boss that he was an idiot and trades 9 and the third to move up 2 spots and Detroit still gets Slater?

That just seems crazy. Sounds like Aaron Rodgers all over again. Jockeying for being the top pick during the season with Lawrence but ends up going way later and is the 5th QB taken despite doing absolutely nothing wrong... oh no, an anonymous scout questioned his competitive desire and he has epilepsy...
The reason he would drop is that he takes to long to get rid of the ball, when being under pressure. 2021 NFL draft QB class - Do the stats match the tape for Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, others? (espn.com)

Nobody is downgrading him for a rumor about his commitment to the team that was debunked by many people almost at once.

Excellent point; one of the reasons why this is the Worst. Year. Ever. to properly evaluate college QBs...They didn't have to enter hostile, sold-out road stadia and try to operate their 3rd-down offenses while 100 db is blaring all around them...

NFW I'm surrendering current AND/OR future early-round assets for Genuinely Unproven QB prospects...#46 AND BOTH next year's 1st- AND 2nd-rounders are OFF. THE. TABLE...PERIOD.

Does that include Fields?

He’s got some pretty good tape from 2019 and there was some crowd when he torched Clemson this year

Yes it does.

I'm not trading ANY Day 1/2 assets this year OR next year for ANY of the non-Lawrences.

And I'm not making ANY phone calls while there are still two QBs on the board.

Who would you want as our game1 starting qb next year:

Lance
Fields
Jimmy G
Cam
another draft pick
