Is Trey Lance worth Patriots to trade up to get?

Kirby is one hell of a coach but laughed at in the coaching circle for pretending to be Nick Saban. He's borderline obsessed. Works for him in a way but it's a blind spot on a personal level, relating to players.

But the Fields situation was a disaster for him. Just awful projection.

Regarding "last one in" or w/e that's nonsense. Just bs. Dan Orlovsky passed on similar comments in which he should be embarrassed by. It's not his job to pass on bs he "hears". Coaches and players laughed at them. Fields has been working with former pro players and coaches since he was 15. Small amount of time and research will show he's a worker.

It's a shame this happens but it is what it is. I can't imagine if he had a dui on him. Dumb ass relative posting stupid pics. A dad bod with limited arm talent.

The good is this exposes a lot of people for who they are. Like that draft diamonds article. I actually contributed to that site before it went down the toilet. Shame they're even giving that guy a voice.

Sorry if this comes off a certain way. I just hate the way people talk about 19-21 yo sometimes. The media just rushes through this process every year and it shows in the worst ways.
Nothing to be sorry about! You make some fair points for sure. I agree completely about Kirby also...should worry less about being Saban lite and just be Kirby.

Bottom line is we should draft anybody but fields! Please San Fran take this guy at number 3 and spare us the pain and suffering!

watching fields read a defense is like watching a five year old trying to solve an algebra problem! (Uglier than a group photo at a woody Johnson family reunion!)

Even though supposedly the stats suggest he is one of the more efficient qbs in the draft when not throwing to his first read? I havent watched him much myself but the stats seem to say this

I watched some Lance last night, and he seems to bird-dog his receivers. NFL safeties would eat him alive if he does this in the Pros. I will have to watch more to see if he does this all the time. Can he find secondary receivers? Does he have a quick release? I have some doubts....but this is based on my typical 2 minute evaluation, ha.

The problem with "why always throw to 1st read..." statements is maybe that WR is always open most of the time?
If you have superior WRs your stats will be better than a QB who has average to mediocre WRs where you have to look at 2nd and 3rd options....

That's why I am biased to Trey Lance. He did not have those top WRs like Alabama and Ohio State. Yet he threw for 0 picks in 2019.

If Trey Lance is available after 3rd pick I would trade with Bengals. IMO.

He should, at least, look off another receiver before throwing to the primary. Otherwise NFL safeties will know exactly where he is going to throw and breakup or intercept the pass.

I wouldn't align my opinions with that weirdo. Draft Diamonds should be embarrassed printing him.
Not 'aligning' with anyone, just giving my honest opinion.
The only reason 5 QBs are probably going in the top 10 is desperation, not honest evaluation.

Only time will tell, it will be fun revisiting these threads 3 years from now.

Trey Lance spotted at Logan Airport!
My initial reaction was , wow, but the Patriots bring in a ton of guys that they never draft. I do hope that the Patriots have slotted him for the 4th round or later....pleazzzze not the first round....please pick a monster DT or big, smelly OT or a nasty CB / safety (Moehrig, oh yeah), but please do not reach for a QB in round 1.

If the Red Sea parts and Mac Jones falls within range, then sure..but OBs will be overdrafted this year which should force some prime players in other positions down the board.

Poor choice of words on my part.

I have no problem going after prospects and airing out their flaws, concerns. Be genuine about it. Everyone has things you can point to but the media and most amateurs spend way too much time on things someone can't do as opposed to what they can. I just get annoyed when some people make stuff up about a prospect or repeat falsehoods.

Like if you think Trey is a 4th or 7th round prospect that's fine. That creep just makes stuff up for attention.

I was at a Kiwanis lunch when Pioli first started as Personnel Director for BB. He said he started telling BB about a certain players weaknesses and BB said “don’t tell me what he can’t do, tell me what he can do” we can cover his weakness and play to his strength

One thing that happens every year is people search for perfect prospect. You hear & read it in the way the talk about these prospects.

But yea people focus way too much on negatives.

Surely it's all relative. Yeah they didn't have any first round Wr's but they weren't playing against any defenders that are likely to be drafted high either. The level of nearly all of the players at that level isn't great. Lance was a big fish in a small pond and the lack of ability around him could make him look much better than he actually is. It works both ways

I read that their offense ran the ball 70% of the time. That's helpful with respect to low INTs and also with respect to getting soft pass D when you do want to pass. Competition level & sample size are huge concerns.
