Patriots cut Edelman(Update- EDELMAN RETIRES)

People forget that he actually played CORNERBACK for the patriots in 2011. That is the kind of team player and competitor he was.
The team was in desperate need for someone to step up and play CB (due to injuries), Of course it was 11 who took that challenge on.

New England already misses you Julian!!!

Some numbers to consider:

  • 2nd in career franchise receptions (620)
  • 4th in career franchise receiving yards (6,822)
  • 9th in career franchise receiving touchdowns (36)
  • one of only two players in Pats history with multiple 100-reception seasons
  • 3rd in most 1,000 yard receiving seasons in Pats history (3)
  • 2nd most consecutive 90-reception seasons in Pats history (4)
  • 2nd in NFL history for most career postseason receptions (118)
  • 2nd in NFL history for most career postseason receiving yards (1,442)
  • Holds team record for most 100-yards receiving playoff games (6)
  • The mark above is also tied for 2nd most in NFL playoff history
  • Longest completion and longest TD pass in NFL playoff history by a non-QB (51 yards to Danny Amendola in the 2-comeback win over Baltimore in 2014 AFCDG)
  • Most rushing attempts in team history by a WR (56)
  • Most rushing yardage in team history by a WR (391)

  • Best single season punt return average in team history (15.3 in 2010)
  • 3rd in career franchise punt return average (11.2 - also ranks #17 in NFL history)
  • 3rd in career franchise punt return yardage (1,986)
  • 3rd in career franchise punt returns (177)
  • Patriots All-Decade Team WR, 2010s
  • Patriots All-Decade Team returner, 2010s
  • Super Bowl 53 MVP
  • Greatest Catch in Super Bowl History
  • Trivia: the 7th round pick used on Jules was acquired when the Pats traded their 2009 third round pick to Jacksonville for a 2010 second round pick... and threw in the 2009 #232 pick as well.

Given this report didn't know yet that Edelman intended to retire, I would classify it as speculation based on incomplete information.

Well, Edelman should be filling his NFL retirement papers any day now.

Right?

Right?

Did you miss his tearful goodbye video on the field at Gillette stadium? Are you saying because his paperwork hasn't been filed within .02 seconds of that that it's not true?

Remember when Gronk retired? That was great. Oh, wait....

These are not apples to apples comparisons.

Gronk had documented frustrations with the team he was on, while Edelman has had nothing but good things to say about Belichick and the Patriots.

Gronk didn't film a goodbye video, on the field at Gillette, with the words Foxboro Forever. Not retiring after doing that would look very disingenuous and not be in line with Edelman's personality.

Gronk was 29 when he retired, meaning he was still only 30 after a year off to heal. Edelman is 34 and has no cartilage in his knee.

What happened today where he lost his dignity? he new what was going on, Im sure the team and him were all on the same page and they threw him a solid so he can collect 2mill.
We pay for our tickets! We get to complain! Complain, complain, complain! Even when our complaints show that we are idiots and have no class!

This. A couple statements that make him different than Brady and Gronk, in his own words.

Honored and so proud to be retiring a Patriot.

Coach Belichick, gave me my opportunity, I'll always love you for that.

Gronk and Brady had had enough of Bill and chose to leave. Neither posted an emotional goodbye and then proceeded to sell Foxboro Forever schwag. He's not going to Tampa. He's done.

The Wheels came off.

Yeah I understood it later.

It also makes sense when you realize that there's absolutely no reason to schedule a physical in April for a veteran WR who's with a team.

"Too small, too slow, not strong enough, couldn't make another team. ...They can't f*ing beat us."

Nice homage from Curran:

This is late-model Curran (centred on Tom Curran) but in this case it's merited since he really does know Edelman (in fact, the Edelmans) well enough to have a part in the narrative. Very well done and informative.
