Is Trey Lance worth Patriots to trade up to get?

Hit rate on first round QBs is much better in the last several years. It's so much a shot in the dark anymore. If you consider Wentz and Darnold busts, it seems daunting to select a top QB, but it's less widely acknowledged that there have been at least 10 good QBs selected in the first round in the last 5 years.

From what I've read on Mond, he will never be a starting QB in the NFL. That's not me talking, but some NFL scouts. Some strong feelings on him.

Are you really going to trade three first round picks (well, two since you will be getting one back in return) and one or two second day picks for just a good QB? There may have been ten good QBs drafted in the first round in the last five years, but there has only been two or three great ones.

All you fields lovers go watch the clips on YouTube. Justin Fields vs northwestern 2020 big 10 championship. At the 53 mark of the video he goes short instead of waiting and he had a big play on the right side. At 9:56 mark had an open receiver and went the other way. The guy stinks .

Now do the Sugar Bowl against #2 ranked Clemson

It can work both ways, just saying

I would. People overvalue draft picks

Yes how does he do against pressure. He hardly was pressured in that game.
In fairness, Mac Jones had the benefit of one of the best offensive lines in the nation. They’re losing three seniors to the draft in Leatherwood, Brown, ****erson, all projected to go within the first three rounds. Don’t get me wrong, I like Jones a lot and he’s being sold short because of his dad bod and chicken legs. But the kid has a lot of the same qualities I see in Tom Brady, without going that far as to suggest he’ll be Tom Brady. I think Fields can be a bigger star in the NFL depending on where he lands. Can make all the throws with accuracy and extend plays with his legs. Whereas Jones has great pocket presence and never lets his receivers get hung out to dry on his throws. I’d be thrilled with either guy as our QB.

Pat Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield, Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson.

That's 8 who are Pro Bowl worthy QBs.

And Jared Goff has even gone to a Pro Bowl too.

What are you looking for? A Hall of Famer?

When you consider that the average contract for a player like Herbert is $5m for the first 5 years (until he restructures, hopefully, deserves to extend) then you see the value.

I will add my comments to each topic.

what is very different is supporting cast. Fields did not have anywhere near the wr talent Jones did.

We disagree on a couple of things here. Fields made a lot of while field reads, and went through progressions very well. Jones had his first read open a lot. (See above for why) That may make it look like Jones makes quicker decisions but it’s not really the case. Throwing to your first read looks quick and decisive while going through progressions can look like a slower decision, but really isn’t. Mobility matters. I don’t want a “running QB” but one that can move and is athletic can extend plays and create opportunities.

I can easily see Jones being a bust. What you have never seen about him is how he deals with pressure. That’s the biggest risk factor in a QB he isn’t going to have wide open receivers and all day to throw at the next level.

Again we disagree here. I’ve seen every snap of fields OSU career. I think you are penalizing him because he has had mediocre wr talent. Easy to do because OSU has had good WR corps for years now but without question the last 2 years were the worst in a long time.
Coming off the covered first read isn’t a negative for a qb it’s experience in doing what he will have to excel at in the nfl.
I think the biggest fail factor with a lot of college QBs is that they played in offenses QBs with receivers who were always open from both scheme and talent differential and when they have to make decisions and go through progressions they struggle. I see this as one of the reasons fields is the most nfl ready.

You didn’t say much about Lance and im surprised you consider him less of a risk because he may not have yet played against an nfl caliber player.
Regarding mobility: Tom Brady has had more mobility within the pocket than any qb Ive seen. Thats REAL mobility that gives your team greater chance fir success. Hes never taking his eyes iff his recs AND hes always in position to maje a quality throw. Mobilty outside the pocket diesnt mean much. Thats Cam Newton Tim Tebow and even Lamar Jackson. Nobe of those guys will be or were consistent winners. Russell Wilson became one of the best when he pretty much stopped running. Its a nice thing to have only as a very occasional thing in certain situations. Redzone in particular.
But mobilty outside the pocket diesnt register among any of the important traits you want in an nfl qb.
I didnt say much about Lance becayse I've never seen him play. Didnt want to regurgitate what scouts draftniks etc say about him. Like I said b4, "on paper" he sounds better than both mac and justin.
But his weak comp is an issue. We really dont know how he'll do vs. strong comp.
Im good with any of those 3.

So your argument is that if Trevor Lawrence had gone to Ohio state he would suck?
And fields would be a different human if he stayed at Georgia instead of going to ohio state. That’s just ridiculous.

oh Jesus I responded before I read the whole thing. Now you don’t want to draft fields because he had an issue with a racial slur made against him? Wow. I guess I understand your position now. It’s not all those Ohio state QBs it’s all this BLACK Ohio state QBs.
Nyet on that racial garbage brother, I said the guy that said it was a idiot and numbskull. I also said I like Lance better. Last time I looked he was a young man of color. Stay away from racial stuff please.

I suppose I would have to question Lawrence if he was an OSU QB.......yes I suppose I would.
I don't have to explain myself. You read it. It was about how sensitive a player in the NFL can be no matter what color, Can a player be triggered.
FYI, the last six OSU QBs were black since 2012...so what. Here is a list of the last 20 years of OSU QBs. Some were Caucasian and some black. My point is none have made it in the NFL

My next point is yes, I would be concerned about thin skin (not skin color) . I didn't say it was right but I guarantee there will be an incident in his NFL career especially now that he is known to triggered, Let's just say he had a big nose and people made comments about that., Is that more better for you Cousin?

Would love to have Dak, Russell or Mahomes as my QB. They are men of color. Does this relieve me of my transgression from saying a ceriain QB who had a big nose was mocked and he was so incensed he quit on his Team?

How do you know I am not of color or perhaps I have a big nose?

Stop it.

Because your comment about him being offended by a racist slur meaning he is a weak person is ridiculous. Just as if you said he can’t play because he has a big nose.
Hilarious that you would downgrade Lawrence is he came from Ohio state.
You are boiling over with ignorance.

Mac Jones and his pop gun arm have Chad Pennington upside, the highest he can get to, if he's lucky.

Your crazy. You obviously haven’t watched film. He has good and more than enough arm strength. Fields is too slow to process the game which will be faster. We will see whose right in a couple of years. Just hope the pats stay away from Fields.

Nah fields will end up being one of the best QBs in the nfl. He’s a stud. What do you think his flaws are?

He's an Ohio State QB, and they've all sucked.

He choked in his last college game.

There was talk that he's a last in, first out guy...

And history says that at least one of these top-5 QBs will bust relative to their draft status - if not bust completely - and my money's on him.

Former Ohio State QBs have nothing to do with him. That’s a lazy attitude.

He did not choke. That’s ridiculous. He outplayed Lawrence thoroughly in Lawrence’s last game.

EVERYONE at Ohio state disagrees with what “Dan orlovsky heard”

So really you have no reason. Gotcha.

Fields is not better than mac. I got Lawrence, Jones, Wilson, Lance, Fields in that order.
you are talking about the Jones that many had a second rounder a few weeks ago, and Fields who almost all had in the top 4 picks until the last 3 weeks?
