DRAFT BGC 2021 Pre-Draft/Patriot-Type Prospect(s) thread

I honestly would not be surprised if the team leaves the first night with a CB at 15. With the run on QBs, WRs, and Pitts in the top 10, one of Horn or Surtain will probably fall. If they can’t trade up for a QB, I don’t think BB will be able to resist going D here. A CB grouping of Gilmore, Jackson, Horn/Surtain to go along with McCourty as the single high safety makes that secondary a no fly zone. Depending on how the rest of the draft and offseason shakes out, Horn (my favorite) or Surtain would make this defense one of the best units, if not THE best unit, in the league. People here will be pissed off, but I would not be surprised.

Haven't pumped this propaganda in a bit. Remember ....

It’s just the way the league has trended. More RBBC approach. Rules more in favor of the passing game, especially once the Pats kept solving Peyton’s Colts in the early 2000’s. And RBs have shorter shelf lives in general than other positions. Would not surprise me to see the first RB in this year’s draft not taken until the second round.

I wouldn't be pissed of, i'd happy bc neither Gilmore or Jackson are signed long term and you need quality cb's for our system. Esp Horn's attitude and physacility would be good here. Surtains tackling also really well. ( just Parts i like from them which separates them from others imo). Agree with your list. I would keep St. Brown. Get Johnson some buddy

Per Brugler - Parson was suspended in high school for yelling "gun" in the school cafeteria. Transferred to another school after that. He had some issues at PSU, the hazing.

I've heard supposedly he's gravitated towards some coaches while getting into it with others. Maturity is definitely an issue but he's young and been a star player everywhere he's been. I get those feelings reading, listening and talking with some people.

This team just needs top end talent, as long as they’re getting that, I have no problem with whatever position is picked (outside of special teams only, of course). Any position can be justified. In this case, not only do you get a no-fly zone for this year, but you also have a long-term solution at CB, with both Gilmore and Jackson being free agents next year.

Pats met with Samuel Cooper - now here's a grown up.
Plenty of his college tape available on YT - that he provides and sends to analysts - but he's just too dominant for that lvl.

Below just few glimpses from Hula and Shrine.
The story on him is a jerker but if you ignore the “storyteller“ there are interesting moments in there.
Tested well, moves well, anchors well, thinks well on and off the field + one of the strongest dudes around.. - Pats UDFA at the least..

Don't know if not already mentioned here, but Brugler dropped his 2021 draft report today over at The Athletic..... gonna read it all later....250K words!

Horn is just a straight up bully. You can tell he was coached up all his life by someone who played ball at the pro level on the other side. He gets his hands on you and you’re DOA. He can also run with the Tyreek Hills of the league. Kid’s going to be a stud.

Here’s what I don’t like about St. Brown - a lot of the tape I watched of him, his biggest plays came when he was running wide open or on short throws against off zone. I didn’t see a whole lot of him against strict press man and what I did see didn’t impress me. Lot of catches came against a guy in his hip pocket but Slovis made some very good back shoulder throws. He reminds me a lot of Harry, actually. Just with a bit more burst. We don’t need that type of wideout. I’d rather take a flyer on a guy like Tamorrion Terry later on. Dude is 6’4” 207 lbs, and ran a 4.44 40. He also posted a 10’6” broad jump. That’s insane.

Horn will be high on my list. I'm wrapping up my grades rn. After I eat & relax I'm going to make a vertical PTP board and Horn will be top 5 or 10 for sure.

Just feels like a "Bill" pick. He's his daddy's son in so many ways. Big trash talker but big time worker. Right up Bill's ally. Put the work in, you can celebrate and have a little fun. He's been going after PFF lately lol.

My CB1. Love the way he plays! Strong, long & tough but displays agility to stick with different types - TE to quicker WR. I really like him.

It was a decent point to bring up once or twice but this is actually getting annoying now.

Ok. I hear ya. I try to lay back but come draft time every year it's like ptsd. I'm trying :)

I think BB is the greatest team builder but he's really dependent on the voices he surrounds himself with. He has been a great drafter in the past with different people next to him. I am extremely extremely concerned for the franchise if BB retires. I am very disappointed McD didn't get the Philly job....

Edit - Disregard, just saw Mond/McD was addressed earlier, sorry!

Edit 2 - big fan of Horn and if the Pats are going corner at 15 he’s the guy I want them to take

Horn is probably my favorite corner to come out since Lattimore. But you definitely cannot go wrong with Surtain either.

Nope, better in run support. Little better in terms of technique(s). Little more polished overall better that what's makes Horn so intriguing. Feel like his ceiling is a little higher.

Two dudes though. Guys this size, with these movements, this refined don't come along often.

Surtain is really, really smart when it comes to that position. He's teach tape for subtle press techniques, man match, run support.

I think Bill would live either and walk away with a smile.

It’s kind of a shame that Farley already has back issues. If he was healthy, that 1-2-3 combo would make this the best CB lot in the first round in quite some time.

Horn's the only CB whom I would consider at #15...Don't know if Surtain's twitchy enough to stay on an NFL island...
