Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

If the Jets keep that pick and don't take a QB, their entire front office should be fired immediately. Sure, he's a great tackle - in a class deep with tackles, but that pick is worth GOLD right now. If they're done with Darnold and want Wilson, sure, but if not, they trade the hell out of there.

Because it's the Jets, I'm assuming if they draft Wilson he will be the next Darnold, and if they trade out of the spot, he becomes the next Mahomes :D

Absolutely, if they're sold on Darnold they need to fleece CAR that will probably trade three #1s and a couple of #2s just to move up 6 spots. Jete can cash in and with 4 QBs going early, they'll have the #4 BAP at #8.

yeah sure and now compare the team JG has had and the team GM has had, the numbers from GM look pretty impresive if you consider under what circumstances he has had to play, you have to put the numbers into perspective, not saying he is the saviour but neither is J-IR-mmy G

Well Einstein, why don't you go look up SF's record when Jimmy G plays vs when Jimmy G doesn't play.

Also, why does BB keep coming back to him?

So this explains your **** attitude. You have no clue what it's like to root for a bad team.

Sure I do. I rooted for the Patriots before BB showed up. I root for other teams in other sports that have been bad. Crazy, huh? Other sports exist outside of pro football and the Patriots. It’s wild. Oh, and I rooted for the Patriots last year.

You've been spoiled by the greatest coach in the history of the league. The guy who chose the 6th round draft pick over the first overall pick franchise qb. And I know your balls were still dropping back then, but it was actually a big debate whether or not to bench Brady when Bledsoe returned. The boomer versions of you (Belichick bashers) were licking their lips ready to tear him apart for choosing the young guy.

Also, when you were jizzing all over yourself during the Ravens win, you must have got some in your eyes to not notice that playoffs were still a possibility at that point.

Yes or no - did you, at any point in that season, think the team was capable of making a run to the Super Bowl? At best, you’ll have to admit you agree with me. At worst, I’ll get a good laugh. In reality, you probably won’t answer this.

Perhaps the Brady tears mixed with the jizz made you blind to the fact that had they beaten the Texans, they'd be 7-4 after week 13 and a real shot at division or wc.

They had no shot outside of a far-fetched mathematical possibility of winning the division. The Bills were ahead of us and already owned the tiebreaker. They’d have had to wet themselves down the stretch which, given their schedule, wasn’t happening. At that point, they were 2-5. At that point, Cam was the worst starting QB in the league by any measure. At that point, he had thrown 2 TDs to 7 INTs in a QB-friendly league. At that point, the defense showed no signs of being able to stop the run. This team was clearly going nowhere. Those wins were completely worthless. If by some miracle they happened to get into the playoffs, and they were officially eliminated before the final week of the season, they would have gotten their cheeks clapped right off the bat.

And obviously they lost to the Texans, but the scrub Newton only threw for 365 yards that game.

But yes, the team did go on to eventually miss the playoffs and it was a shell of a team by the final game but the GOAT coach still showed the team there is no giving up.
Rather than the loser mentality of having professional athletes throw games so they can hope for a QB, he had them play until the end.

You need to go back to elementary school and take some reading comprehension classes. I’m sure the kids would be confused as to why someone who looks like he’s nearly deceased is in there with them. Parents may complain that a man resembling a pedophile is on campus. But it would be good for you. At no point in time did I suggest that they “throw games.” Pro teams and athletes don’t do that. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot. I suggested, and have been suggesting, that they did what Miami and Flores did merely a near earlier - cut bait by trading expensive and alluring aging pieces for draft picks, play the kids, go through the growing pains, up their draft position, and take an inventory of what they have at the end of the season. They didn’t do that. Now we’re in purgatory when it comes to the QB position while Miami is stacked with first round picks and is in a position to build their roster into a juggernaut.

Reasons like that are why he's a winner and the GOAT, and why you're just some Bradystan who clearly doesn't know his ass from his elbow when it comes to football.

This is comedy gold. A “Bradystan?” What the hell does that even mean? I arrived here a month after you did. And, you may forgive me for saying this, but I’ve shown throughout my history on this board that I’ve forgotten more about football than you’ll ever know. Feel free to point me to a post of yours where you break down film, formations, tendencies, gap assignments, routes, coverages, blocking schemes, etc? You probably won’t be able to do that because those posts don’t exist. You probably don’t have a clue of what you’re looking at on the field which is why this post is one big appeal to authority. I’d say you don’t know your ass from your elbow, but I have a feeling that I’d confuse your ass and your face if I actually saw you.

You seem to have some pent up personal issue with me, judging by the angry tenor of your posts. This is either because you’re likely a fan of the man (BB) before you’re a fan of the laundry or because, deep down, you know I’m actually right on this one. In light of this news, break down the positives of those wins and the negatives. You’ll see that the negatives far outweigh the positives. I hope that whatever is going on in your life gets better.

If we are willing to trade for JG, AND draft a rookie to potentially take over for him, why are the 49ers trading him in that same scenario? The issue isn't that we shouldn't trade for him this year if he's available, it's that San Fran may not be willing to move on from him for a price point that makes any sense. If the cost is a first rounder, I would rather pick a great player at 15 (be it QB or otherwise), and evaluate a run at Jimmy next year, rather than overpay for him this year. Depending on which QB we draft (if we do, in round one or otherwise), we may not even need him. There's just no reason to make the trade out of desperation, not for Garropolo.

As far as I am concerned, if Garoppolo isn't available for a reasonable price this year, they might as well just forget he even exists. No plans to pick him up next year unless you are considering it as a Plan Z option after trying to get your franchise QB of the future next year. He is a QB coming of his second shortened season due to injury in three years and has only played one full season. He isn't worth more than a mid to late round pick. A third at the highest.

I don't particularly care for Garoppolo. I have real questions how mentally tough the guy is beyond his injury history. A true franchise QB would have played with the injury he was a gametime scratch against Buffalo during Brady' suspension. The fact he couldn't even try to make a go of it makes me wonder if he is the guy you want to build your franchise around even if he didn't have a scary injury history.

I wandered into the Brady forum...what a mistake that was.

I think it is crazy to trade up to three to take Jones when word is he is falling to #5 on the QB draft list after a surge by Lance. But I don't know why Shanahan would be doing a misdirection at this point with the first two picks virtual locks with Lawrence and Wilson. Even if the Jets decided to trade down and start Darnold, the team trading to #2 would still most likely take Wilson.

Maybe Shanahan knows enough about Fields and just wants to see Jones to justify his decision to draft Fields at #3. But otherwise, I don't see the strategy to go to Jones' pro day unless he is the guy.

What posturing? Why can't it simply be true they don't want to trade Jimmy.

There is ZERO downside to keeping Jimmy for Lynch. Now let's look at the possible downside if he gets traded:

1. Fields/Lance aren't ready for NFL as starters. Lynch looks like a dumb ass for letting Jimmy go;
2. Pick #3 gets injured (see Burrows), 9ers go down in flames again. Lynch looks like a dumb ass for letting Jimmy go.

Nvm if Jimmy has a bang up year with whomever he gets traded to.
You may be right. I just believe otherwise. Is that okay for me to do?

The harder you work to convince someone you’re telling the truth; the more likely it is that you’re not. That’s what I’m hearing.

em those who are coming back and bagging for Jimmy are patsfans like you, people who are full of hope that a player bound to IR is surprisingly staying off of it and plays lights out, sure go have wet dreams about Jimmy

BB kept saying good things about Brady as well, is he coming back to him and will trade for him? yeah guess you have your answer Einstein

Your opinion and evaluation process is worthless.

Oh boy. If they traded all that to move up to 3 just to take Mac Jones, Lynch should be tested for CTE.
Shanahan would be the one being tested as he calls the shots at the end of the day. Lynch is only GM by title as he was hired by Shanahan.

Or maybe - stay with me here - people thinking Garoppolo might be available because of SF's move, his contract, and other, you know, pertinent information, are simply interested in the possibility and enjoy talking about hypotheticals.

I'm not a huge JG fan. I do like his release and have seen some really good flashes from him - but not enough to think he's "THE guy. Fortunately, that's not up to me.

I'm also not a big hater of Cam Newton. I think COVID hit him a lot harder and longer than even he realized - I've watched Jason Tatum since he came back and he's all over the place. Great game, sucky game, sucky game, okay game. He's not the same player.

I also think that Newton is desperate to play well this year and had a full off-season to get at it. Given everything that happened last year, including a non-existent receiving corps, I have no problem with him having another year.

But I find SF's move to #3 fascinating, given that they've got control of JG for two years at >50 million, and that JG isn't a mid-30's QB and is still desperate to put something of a career together. I know BB likes him a lot.

It's worth discussing and considering from a football/human standpoint whether I'm desperate for the guy or not.

Who says they're waiting?

Bill doesn't need Jimmy to go to a SB. He can do it with an average QB, a game manager, like what he did in 2001. Any avg QB will do.
ROFL
So, all we need is to draft a Brady
