The Perfect Fit - 4 Teams Desperate For A QB and 4 Top Picks In The Draft

Exactly.

Does he go the Jimmy Johnson route and get his franchise QB year 1 and go 1-15 that year or trade the #1 for a cornucopia of picks and build around him year 1.

Both strategies/team building philosophies are reasonable.

Personally I think GM2 is a functional QB and surrounded by the right talent can win a few games.

Clearly Lawrence is an elite talent that does not come around that often.
That’s the potential PR problem for them. They dont want to risk becoming known forever as the team that punted on Lawrence.

At this point I'm less concerned about the Pats' QB fortunes, and much more concerned about some of you guys having a heart attack if they don't trade up for one of these four/five.
The Patriots are in need of a QB. Next year's QB draft class is projected to be a weak one. So it makes sense that people would be all in on getting one of the top QBs from this year's group.

Can you imagine how the rest of the league, and fans, would react if Belichick's reload was topped off with Lawrence in the draft?
I'd actually spend time on other team's message boards just to enjoy that, a place I've not been before.

If that trade went down first place i'd go is ChiefsPlanet and post....

There are several interesting QBs. The only one even close to approaching "sure thing" is LAwrence, and he could easily be a bust - just like so so many before him... QBs in the draft are like children : you have them, you nurture them, you do your best to put them in a position to succeed. But, ultimately, it's a guessing game. Good parents sometimes have bad kids and bad parents sometimes have good kids.

I am guessing BB doesn't go QB in the first round.
Most first round QBs that get good coaching and have a decent team and esp OL around them develop.
Most of the flops are on teams with poor coaching and crappy teams.

Watching another year of cam Newton won’t give me a heart attack but might cost me a few TVs.

Would not be shocked at CB. I think we move up to target a QB but if we can't I believe Tackle and CB are in play at 15. I agree with you on Safety though.
Except that the OT and CB classes are so strong that it would make more sense to trade back than to take one at #15. At this point the way I see it is that they can move up for Lance or Fields, take Mac Jones or Parsons at #15, or trade down and pick up an additional 2nd rounder.

The trouble the Jags would have is moving so far down I think. If we’re potentially out of the QB game there then so are they. Of course, three No 1s plus (what it would take) would be a nice compensation for potentially punting on a QB for a year.
The only way the Jags trade #1 is if Meyer likes Fields better, and he wouldn’t risk dropping any more than the #3 spot in that case, and Miami isn’t going to trade up for Lawrence. I could see the Jets trying to move into the #1 spot though.

I suppose that we have 3 choices:
1) presume that Gilmore and Jackson will be here in 2022
2) consider a corner
3) bury head firmly in the sand

In a perfect world Gilmore and Jackson are under contract beyond 2021 before the draft.

Denver and Elway yet again will ruin our chances. They will move up and pick a QB. Also wouldn't Miami do everything they can to trade their top pick to a team desperate for a QB? They have another 1st rounder. I'm sorry but I don't see how the Pats can move up with so many other teams ahead with more capitol.

If they don’t have their best options at #15, and the price for moving up was too high, then I’d be fine with a defensive back, but I would move down to pick them. Ultimately the goal is to get a great player, even if it isn’t the position you are prioritizing at that time. So if you can get a long term all pro caliber player then take them. I don’t think RB is a need, but I would love Harris or Etienne, just not at #15. Same goes for OL, DL,Edge...

I'm ready for anything except a defensive back. If we go safety or CB at 15 or better I may actually shove myself in the dryer and turn it on
Yep. DB is my worst nightmare.
Gilmore, JC, and McCourty are all up for new contracts/retirement next year. I honestly would be 100% fine with a talented youngster being added with a year of seasoning learning from those guys. The only secondary position that would make me throw things at the TV is SS or big nickel LB as they already have 3 of those.
That's what Williams was for and that has not worked out when there were other dire needs. Taking a DB doesn't help the team for this year and may not help in the future as shown by Williams. Bill needs to take a break for at least a year and take a front 7 player that would not only will have more of an opportunity to play, but is probably the better player available.

Why not trade up to 5, then trade up from 5 to 3 or 2.

Why don't people ever bring up quality of competition for Wilson?

Also I heard someone else bring up the wide zone / Wilson thing on Twitter but would love to hear your thoughts, any original thoughts.

I hear you say wide zone but think you mean PA. Usually QB's are working the MOF or have to be very comfortable working that area. Not saying Wilson can't but he struggled targeting that area.

Give me some real analysis OJ
All I can say is rewatch the new England vs San Fran game from last year.

bb gave us a clinic on how to not defend a wide zone blocking scheme.

This doesn't help. What does this have to do with Wilson?
