Can anyone explain how Trubisky (SP) got to the Bills? I didn't see anything that showed how it happened.
For 2.5m.

I think a lot of people here are misreading some things: if BB thought Trubisky or some of the others were better than Newton, he'd have picked them up.

I think Cam starts for New England this year. I expect at least one QB in the draft, but Newton will run the team.

We will see how strong our rumored interest in Mariota has been.
Chicago is where QBs go to die.
With us having Jonnu Smith we should have good intel on Marcus.

Masterful even in

Why would the Bears be interested in this? The whole reason that they are reading themselves of Hicks and their own CB1 is for cap reasons, so why would they want to take on a veteran cornerback who probably wants a new three-year contract for big money, not to mention throwing us a third round pick to boot.

So to answer the original question… The Bears say no, that’s who. It probably doesn’t even make sense for the patriots either.

As mentioned above, he was a FA free to go wherever he wanted.

It made waves last year when CHI did not pick up his fifth year option.

They hoped it would motivate him to step up and earn a big deal.

Instead he's ending up in BUF as a backup QB.

Turns out teams get talent evaluation wrong pretty often.

Turns out draft pedigree only takes you so far.

No idea. Could be anywhere from 10-14M
That is where I thought they would be. Hopefully sign Guy and then he needs 5 million for rookies and he always keeps a little stash for in season moves

I find it interesting that neither Guy or White haven’t signed yet.

could we possibly see both back with the Patriots?

IMO he's only affordable if he is released.

His contract is fine if he doesn't play, but if he does, the costs start adding up quickly.

Given where the money has gone it seems Cam is the starter.

Not an ideal place to be, but not paying a lot to a QB is why we have been able to load up on younger players with upside.

The right thing to do would be to pick up a QB in the draft, but I kinda feel BB isn't gonna do the right thing.

I kinda feel he wants to give Cam another season without looking over his shoulder, and I think that will be a disappointment.

No, my argument is that it in all probability will not be better than relying on Newton. I see just about nothing encouraging in Mariota. I'm not against the general concept of adding another veteran. I'm against Mariota being that veteran. I'd take Minshew, for example.
Mariota can throw the ball 8 yards without bouncing it 5 yards short.
Mariota doesn’t lack awareness to the extent of throwing passes into the face mask of a pass rusher right in front of him, or throwing pick 6s on screen passes.
Mariota isn’t indecisive and incapable of reading a defense so that almost no throw is on time.
Mariota will escape the pass rush and either buy time to throw or run for yards instead of just taking a sack.
Mariota doesn’t run like a lumbering overweight fullback.

Mariota certainly is a great qb and has many flaws but newton is god-awful and it would be a tremendous improvement.

I think it’s pretty clear Bill thinks better of Newton than fans do. I think maybe COVID had a big effect on him and his performance. Hopefully he shows off whatever Bill thinks is there in training camp and the season because it doesn’t look like there’s any other significantly better veterans available. And I really hope Bill trades up and drafts a QB.

No one wanted him. Maybe he figured Allen’s reckless style of play gives him a good chance to see the field if there is an injury.
I mean who did you think was going to want him?

Too low.

First, they need 2.9m for rookies, according to Miguel's last accounting on it (might be less now if the top-51 number is higher).

Second, Karras and Bethel won't take much, nor will Andrews since it's four years. Brown is the question mark - I think they'll wind up around 16-18 left.

Agree (re BB thinking more highly) / disagree (Covid had an influence). Cam had a horrendous year passing the ball. I am curious, though. So it’ll be interesting to see (1) if Cam is starting in September (2) if BB drafts a QB (3) how much Cam can improve with another year in the system + much better weapons.

Not saying I’m advocating whatsoever : but can you imagine adding Najee as a bruiser to team with Cam & Harris + two TEs + rugged OL + good blocking WRs ? BB going all 1930s. Studying black n white tape of all-run formations.

Trubisky is a very, very average QB.

Bill is paying Cam like a backup. Are fans saying hes not even that?

That would waste a whole lot of good acquisitions.
Belichick needs to draft a qb in round 1 and that qb needs to be playing by October.
ideally he also finds a better guy to play until then but suffering through another 4-5 games of the suckage that is newton for the sake of continuity is tolerable.

WHEN we draft a an in round 1 having newton here already familiar with the system allows the staff to totallly devote themselves to preparing the rookie. Having to teach the entire system to a different starter at the same time might hold that back. Suck with newton so the suck ends faster.

So why'd he get dumped for Ryan Tannenhill and become Derek Carr's backup? I mean given what you are saying about Mariotta he should be a definite starter in this league but yet he isn't.

Mariotta & Newton in 2017.

You are really overhyping Mariotta.

Agreed. I do think there's a higher chance than we think (like 30-40%) that he's going to go with best WR available. One final piece to add to the receiving threats and maybe go with a QB that isn't expected to start this year in the 2nd round or so

You are very complementary of mr trubisky
