I'de be amazed if we signed another receiver. We have Agholor, Bourne and meyers plus the two TE's who will get significant time i doubt we are getting a typical WR1
Cousins, Don't sleep on TY Hilton. The went after a vet who can run routes with Green,
I'd prefer Higgins and he would be reasonable. He will wind up back with the Browns while he swap Harry and a 4th for OBJ....WHY NOT? Reminds me of the Moss acquisition when Stallworth was the big signing and we traded.

We all seem to be assuming that Edelman and Harry will be gone, and that we carry 6 WR's
Currently, we have Agholor, Edelman, Bourne and Olszewski.
Is it possible that we sign someone else?

If Edelman stays, I see Meyers competing with Bourne for very few reps.

Bourne is the eventual Edelman replacement if he shows up for his audition year.

I think we should stop thinking of Gunner as a WR and accept that he is a ST player with emergency WR upside until he proves otherwise. Unless a couple injuries hit, his only ticket onto the 53 will be as return specialist.

The Agholor role -- which I think will be a mix of Cooks/Hill -- has no emergency depth yet on the roster which is something to keep an eye for. But this might be something they address in the draft or through UDFAs (or maybe bring Byrd back for cheap).

I wouldn't assume anything about Meyers. He had a good second season last year but he will have to fight for a spot on the 53 like everyone else.

Are y'all seriously saying Meyers won't make the team? He's guaranteed a spot (basically) based on his production last year assuming he hasn't pulled a fat Thor and sucks now.

What exactly does "pulling a fat Thor" mean ? Getting injured during camp, rehabbing and then suffering a set back that ends the season ?

Gunner is certainly much more ST than WR, but he's no Slater/King. He's gotten better at WR the duration of his NFL career, so I don't think it would be a stretch to consider him our #5 WR. We just can't be putting him in the top rotation like we did at times last season (unless he continues to improve).

Some redundancy for Agholor would be nice, as you mention. But I still see Meyers as a superior prospect to Bourne. They're very similar types of players, and Meyers produced more with less around him in 2020.

But I still see Meyers as a superior prospect to Bourne.

Please explain because I don't see a single thing that Meyers does that someone else on the current roster doesn't do better. His only leg up is experience with McDaniels.

A single thing that he does better than anyone else doesn't matter to me. The totality of his ability to play WR matters a lot, and he absolutely destroyed everyone who was on the 2020 Patriots roster in that regard.

Bourne just doesn't impress me that much. He's on the same level as Meyers, but as I already explained, he did less with more around him. You can turn around and say "well, it's because Meyers was the only option", but then I could say "wouldn't that mean he also got more defensive attention?".

He's very good at finding space against zone. Reportedly, Bourne does that as well. The two of them mean that Edelman can take his time returning from injury.

Still some question marks at X, unless Harry takes a step. I haven't completely given up on him, but he needs to want it and put in the time.

People said the exact same thing about Edelman as you're saying about Gunner. Edelman didn't explode as a receiver until his 5th year. He made his bones as the Punt Returner as he practiced and practiced his route running.

Considering the Pats now have 4 TEs and 5 receivers, and they are likely to run a lot of 2 and 3 TE sets, I see the 3rd WR being the 5th or 6th receiving option.

And yes, I expect Meyers to the be one of the top 3 receivers on this team. He showed that he is capable of getting open and has the hands to pick up the trash that Newton throws.

I also get strong "this is exactly the same as when people doubted Edelman" vibes from this thread, but not about Gunner so much as about Meyers. How is production in this system not enough to make us think he can play in this system?

just a possibility

I haven't seen anyone claim that Edelman and Harry will be gone and that the team will still carry 6 WRs. I think 6 WRs is unlikely given that they aren't likely to cut Keene or Asiasi after 1 season.

Unless things have changed, Edelman is likely starting the year on PUP or IR..

Zuber is likely going to be a PS again and likely the first call-up in the event of an injury at receiver.

If you dig deep enough into this thread, you will indeed find people who assume Edelman and Harry will be gone. Not going to single them out though. I'm just going to keep arguing with them.

I do think Harry is gone though. We're probably also going to have to pick just one of Asiasi, Keene, Izzo (keep in mind how much our staff is in love with Izzo despite him being good at nothing).

What happened to Marquise Lee?

I talked to my Eagles fan friend and what he’s told me is Mills is slow and has gotten beat a lot by faster receivers. He needs help around him if he’s at corner. A confident player. Does a great job defending in the red area. Played more safety last season.
IF 4.48 is slow

I don’t think Mills is built like that. At 191 lbs. he’s much leaner than a prototypical strong safety. An effective tackler but not a punishing one.
