[Edited title] Patriots gave Andrews offer which did not "entice" him - but both sides want to get a deal done

Very true.

we have a finite number of dollars to spend and nothing or next to nothing at qb, wr, te, dt, de, lb and pk. And ps: our best cb probably will require more cash!

does spending 10 plus million on a center, when the last 3 centers we got, started almost from day 1?
Because we had a qb older than dirt who could call the protections with his eyes closed. Took a lot of pressure off the rook.

Any team that spends that kind of money on a center are fools and deserve the cap hell they create. This is especially true this year, when the reduced cap is likely to deflate contract sizes.

It definitely won't be that high. Linsley will set the value of what Andrews won't be able to command and I see him getting more than the highest paid C in Ryan Kelly currently at $12M.

Some random guy on the Jets makes $9M a year. Weston Ritchberg is making over $9M as well with the 49ers who hasn't been great since signing and may get cut. It doesn't seem that far fetched Andrews using his Pats pedigree to get someone to pay at least pay $10M.

connor mcgovern (jets) is ranked as the 11th best center in the league on a list i found on SI.com - no penalties in almost 1100 snaps......he grades out a fair amount higher than andrews

Andrews consistently grades out around 15-16 among centers on the ranks i've seen.......the number 15/16 center contract wise come in at around 6.75 mil right now........so i think that sportrac value figure of 7.1 mil a year is spot on - i think you start getting closer to linsley money (he is expected to come in at or over 12mil/per) and i think you start looking at other FAs and a possible draft pick........

you knew that was coming......it's security in an uncertain market.......i still expect a vet FA sign and a draft pick at some point

Bil

Bill offered him a 50% raise ($4.5M) and would allow him to punch Little Steven in the stomach, but only once.
Andrews wants $7.5M and to be able to punch Little Steven in the stomach three times throughout the season at his choosing and w/o warning.
no way BB is letting him punch Steven 3 times...and without warning? Andrews crazy...looks like we will be drafting a center. $6M per and one punch seems like a fair win win deal for both (except Steven)

You don't think he's in the top half of all centers?
I think he’s about middle of the pack give or take, I think middle of the pack Cs are over paid, and I don’t think you pay a guy with serious health risks the same money an equal player without those risks gets.

If he is going to cost 7+ mill per year I would rather use my FA money on a different position and draft a C.

Not paying Andrews 7 million is based on there being better uses of 7 million under a finite budget.

let’s say you have the choice of Andrews abs Tyrell Williams or a draft choice at C and Golladay.
Which are you choosing? And you can do that across the board. Many people are looking it as “that’s what it costs to keep Andrews” and I am looking at it as “is David Andrews the best use of 7 million a year?”

Unless the Phins, or another team, overpays to get Andrews, I feel he stays in NE. Regardless, BB needs to add a backup G/C in free agency or the draft.

Didn't the Dolphins already take Karras. Find your own centers lazy p.o.s lol. I'm already sad about potentially losing Thuney. Please don't lose both.

I guess if Miami takes Andrews, NE can just bring Karras back... he's a free agent

Maybe Andrews will take less to stay now because he can play an extra year since our offense will be games full of 3 and outs.

You do realize that many players speak glowingly of playing for belichick right? Andrews is part of SB Championship teams in this organization and understands they do things the right way.
What would make him want to leave?
More money...? The chance at another ring, which he will Never, Ever have if he stays here...?

With the money they just saved at the QB position on Cam, I’d tell Andrews to hit the bricks if he wants to break the bank, and sign Thuney. He has positional flexibility in that he can play G, C (he’d be an improvement on Andrews here), and he’s even played LT in a pinch.

Dan Connolly too for most of the 2011 season...
Forgot about that. He was a damn good C in his time there too. That OL was stacked. Light-Mankins-Connolly-Waters-Solder/Vollmer.

Why would thuney want to stay here and suffer through all of the pain and embarrassment of playing in a cam Newton offense?
