Brady inspires both sides of the ball to be better. The D feels they have a shot with him at quarterback so they bear down and play harder. His presence on the team and the impact on the team as a whole cannot be overstated.

His presence also increased birth rates and decreased the number of terminal diseases in a 20 mile radius around his house.

The Jets and Pete Carroll might be taking Plan A off the table. Colin Cowherd opened his show today with a report that Russell Wilson might be traded to the Bears for 5 1st round picks, and, then Seattle would trade with the Jets for Darnold to be their new QB. With Darnold going to the Seahawks and not the 49ers, San Francisco can’t move off Jimmy G.

I’m sure many of you think Cowherd is full of it, but he has some credibility with me. I once attended a promotional event of his when he was with the world wide leader. That event was the first time I had ever heard of Roger Clemens’ steroid use, so he’s not completely a hack or, at least, he wasn’t back then.

So if the Pats were to cut Newton before the season, they would only lose $3.5 million. And is the per game bonuses, are they playing in games, suited up for games, or just being on the team for each game?

Any way you look at it, this looks like a contract where Cam is not guaranteed a starting job.

Yeah Colin is legit. It's funny how he refers to ESPN as the "other network" as they must of had an ugly breakup.

$5m is a great deal for a quality backup, and Cam is at least that. If BB can get a better guy, say Jimmy G, then I think he will and Cam becomes the backup. At least now we have a floor for QB in case nothing else materializes, and it's not that horrible.

If we can blank out about 6-8 throws last season that were in the dirt for no apparent reason, he wasn't all that bad. He either had an ailment or a mechanics problem with that 20 yard throw as he was moving forward. He's still got an arm.

Right and he had no other offers either. There was no reason to sign him now other than being desperate in hopes of attracting FAs which seems unlikely now.

His footwork went down the drain after the COVID break. If he can get back to how it looked against e.g. Seattle he will instantly look a lot better as a thrower. The challenge will be to keep it at a consistent level for the entire season. And then he also needs to stop forcing throws at times but that is something that might get better as he grasps the offense better and knows where his outlets are.

Still a ****ton of work for him this offseason to get there.

But the whole point is we signed him at the 11th hour again (last business day before the legal tampering period) because we had zippo. That is the story. We have all the cap, the high picks and the best we could do was Newton and now we have to pray that FA receivers/TE want to come here which is a huge ask.
Better than asking them to come play for Stidham or Hoyer.

Despite all the meltdowns and misleading posts from various people this turned out to be yet another pretty good deal that gives the team enough flexibility to even release him before the season starts if something comes up.

When the Pats have something like $58 million in cap room, giving their back up $5 million isn't a huge amount of money. And I think this contract means that Cam will have to win the starter spot and he won't be going into camp without competition whether it is a veteran or a high draft pick.

A lot of speculation at this time of the year. Very little of it ever comes true, I don't see this scenario happening myself.

Now that we have the real contract numbers, I hope some of the whining stops. This doesn't block literally any other move from happening.

Even at $14 mil it was not going to block other moves. It is about bringing him back at all.

Hahahhaha... Fire the best coach in football??

hahhahahahahaa gimme a fkn break.
You talk about the coach who is under .500 without the greatest football player of all time?

Bill Belichick without Tom Brady has a worse record than Rex Ryan.

Bill does the opposite of what everybody expects him to do even if it doesn't make sense. If everybody thought he was going to sign aaron donald, he'd go out and sign the 10th worst rusher instead just to play that i know more than everyone else routine.

It seemed like every article and site that predicts what free agents will get with their new deal predicted that Cam would get a straight $10 million guaranteed contract. With the Pats, he may get half that.

Bill Belichick is in love with Cam Newton. This signing guaranty no other QB will be brought and barring injury Cam will start every game even if he throws 0 TD and 50 picks.

Bill doesn’t want to hurt Cam’s feeling by drafting a QB in the first round to compete with him.

And then throw them away after he’s worn them once.
Does he actually do that? Jordan would wear a new shirt once and give it away, and they were expensive shirts.

That was working when you had Brady to cover for this kind of move.
