BTW- a pet peeve of mine when discussing the cap is the fact that how much cap space a team has is kind of irrelevant IF you don't add the number of players a team has under contract.

For example would you rather have a $60MM in cap space with 25 players under contract or $40MM with 40 players under contract? How many players a team has under contract is a key number in the cap equation and often time it is very hard to find that information as it is rarely used in any of the charts we get to see.

Just a late might thought that would keep me awake if I didn't jot it down.

OTC has the cap projected at 203M for next year.. They project the Patriots at 145M free currently. That will probably change to about 80M with after the Patriots signings and draft this year.

You keep harping on Garappolo, but ignore the numbers none the less. The money is there. Stop pretending it's not.

My only point was that the money the Pats have now for next year will go down exponentially by next year which is what you are arguing. I never said they would have no money next year.

And I was just using Garoppolo as an example because his acquisition would be a major hit to next year's cap.

Interesting... I didn't follow much of him last year, is he still serviceable? If we don't re-sign Jason McCourty, we could have a spot for a veteran depth option at CB, if his price is reasonable.

JMac definitely looked like he lost a step or two last season.

Assuming position Golladay plays BB will not even consider these numbers.

As a Giant he was much more than serviceable. He's experienced many injuries and was released because of his character's issues. However I have know idea how he played as a member of the Saints team.

Reiss goes all out in this simulation, signing Kenny Golladay for $105M/5yr, Jonnu Smith for $42.5M/4yr, and Yannick Ngakoue for $60M/4yr.

Reiss seems to be a really bad GM. He is out bidding the competition by a huge amount.

Brandin Cooks is officially off the market, as the Texans have restructured his contract to lower his 2021 cap hit. He'll get his full $12 million this year.

So someone offers Fooloday 4/60 and the Pats offer 4/105?

I...umm...yeah...ah....

Kinda happy for the guy. He has bounced around so much that it is good for him that he can actually spend multiple years with one team. It's not like he is a journeyman scrub.

BTW, ESPN has Trent Williams as the #1 free agent this year. Great OT, but the guy is 33.

Piggybacking off of this with a tweet:

More restructures are now official: — #Cowboys OLs La'el Collins (creating $5.25M of space), Zack Martin ($7.05M) and Tyron Smith ($6.675M) — The #Texans restructured WR Brandon Cooks ($6.53M). — The #Eagles did the same to DT Javon Hargrave ($9.408M).

And it also depends upon who those players are.

I would agree, in this market with so many teams close to the cap or even over, how many teams could or would afford that kind of salary?

That is why I start to think BB will not be eager to offer 4-5 years contract to any vet WRs. I am inclined to believe he will sign a middle level WR via FA and grab one or two WRs via draft.

I was looking at OTC earlier and they were at around $127M free in ‘22 with a $203M projected cap.

Just took this screenshot..
