I actually don't know that there is any maximum, so thank you for giving me something I can try to learn today. But OTC notes the following:What's the maximum # of voidable years they can add to a contract? 3, 5?
Under the cap accounting rules of the CBA a signing bonus or an amount treated as a signing bonus is prorated on a straightline basis over the course of a contract up to a maximum of 5 years.
The Voidable Year and the Salary Cap
and, off the top of my head, I can't really think of any scenario where you'd need a void year beyond that 5 year limit.
