Interesting development on the Jimmy G front

I’m convinced Garappolo will be a Patriot again by the time the new league year starts next Wednesday.

San Francisco will not make them wait until they get their replacement QB because they know the only team they can trade him to for value and Garappolo would not veto with his no-trade is the Patriots. So, SF can’t run the risk of of the Patriots moving on to another option which would leave them no choice but to release Garappolo when they do get their replacement.

SF can wait until the draft to get their QB as they have their skill players in place. The Patriots don’t and can’t wait. We won’t care about what the Pats gave up in the trade after the Pats sign a starting WR and TE next week.

From the horses mouth. Payback will be sweet for Lynch.
I would hope that Lynch understands the difference between the 2 QB’s and why you would get laughed at for one and not the other.

Yes, a top flight QB goes a long way. But I personally think that QB is as likely to be a boring move as a fan favorite. I think he's thinking QB is overvalued because spending on the sure thing at QB undermines the ability to surround him with the other pieces you'll need. I mean, everybody's got some version of the same problem... I just think he's willing to get by on something north of Cam but South of the big stars.

I’ve learned when we think Bill should zig he zags so I have no idea

And that's why the rest of the league should be scared - what's it take to get the Pats to, say, 11-5? Provided solid moves elsewhere, at the QB position it doesn't take a home run. (We all want the home run, but it really doesn't take one.) Jimmy G might count as the home run when healthy, but you have to have a backup capable of stepping in (again, responsible for playing competently.)

Ironically, we're really back to the "first dynasty" days, when the goal was to keep Brady from having to handle too much. "No need to try to prove you really were better than Brian Griese, just don't lose it for us." With a guy who throws more TDs than int.s, hell, we might have been a playoff team last year.

I just don't want to see a bunch of guys put on suicide watch on here if we end up being "cheap" at QB. Given the potential upside from middling performance, it's a pretty good ad for the "value approach" writ large to go with the middling QB if the big scores are available at other positions.

Man I keep forgetting Jimmy has a no-trade clause. That really hinders SF.

I wonder if Jimmy would play for say Houston?
My guess he would want to be back with a coaching staff he knows trusts and values him.

If the Jets pass on Wilson, I wonder if San Fran would trade the farm to move up and get him.

With all the Brady drama I’m over it whoever our starting QB is im
Going to purchase a jersey of them and memorabilia and I will yell my guts out for them every Sunday.

Jimmy likes strippers. I doubt him and Easterby see eye to eye. I can definitely see him hanging out with Bob K at a strip mall massage parlor.

I agree. If this were a 2008 scenario with a stacked team minus just the QB it'd be one thing but team was trash last year. It'll certainly be exciting to see what Bill can pull out of his ass to make this work (paging @Dingleberry). Lol
Did someone flash the bat signal with ass talk?

Oh, it's 2008 talk? The 11-5 with Cassel thing has always been way overblown. A 16-0 team in 2007 against a very difficult schedule went in to 2008 against a laughably weak schedule. Had Brady not gotten hurt, 16-0 again was a real possibility. 14 - 2 was a certainty.

I am hoping Belichick can get a QB with some ability to read a D, is accurate, and gets a full training camp. Garropolo, with his history here, would be the best scenario. Despite his shortcomings, he is no Cassel. If not him, I hope they roll the dice in the draft.

Another season of Cam would really mat my ass hair.

It's amazing that people are still trying to use this as a BB brag. It's been more than a decade. You'd think people would have learned by now.

Even take that season out and we went 3-1 with a mix of Jimmy/Brissett in 2016. Now that was a super bowl winning team with Brady.

But, the point is that if Bill has a good TEAM he can win games with other QBs. Now, I'm not saying contend. Because brady was the difference between a winning season and a super bowl.

But he can win games as long as he has a competent starter and a solid team.last year we were missing both.

The only way this happens is Lynch fleecing Bill due to the obvious desperation by the Pats GM. Will Bill do it, sell the farm for Dreamy Jimmy?

The Pats are not going to have to “sell the farm”. Everyone wants something for nothing, but that’s not how the world works. There’s a significant value to the Patriots of getting this done before free agency. You will not get any skill players to come here as free agents without a QB in place if the player has another good option.

Say the compensation is the Pats 2nd and a conditional pick next year. I’m sure a lot of you would say that’s too much for Jimmy Garoppolo. But, would you think it’s too much to give up for Jimmy G, Kenny Golladay, and Jonnu Smith?

Not attacking the messenger here, I just don’t get why anyone puts stock in these vague rumor blurbs. “Patriots expected” by who exactly? Anyone can say something like “Patriots expected to take a hard look at Deshaun Watson’s availability” or “Patriots expected to explore trading up in the draft” and try to pass it off as news rather than fan theory such as what we have on these forums.

It’s pretty obvious that there a lot of possibilities to consider (Garoppolo being one of them) but nobody is really clued in on what’s going to happen. For example, Newton was speculated last year but the signing came out of left field. Or take the Trent Brown trade, a significant addition to the OL and a deal that was apparently done as of two weeks ago but there was no indication at all that it was in the works prior. I just think it’s easy for some no-name random Twitter account to throw a vague rumor out there to pass it off as credible reporting to get clicks, follows, etc. Anyone could write something like “Sources indicate Mariota is on the chopping block and the Raiders are expected to make it official in the coming days” that could mean what we already know: that he is going to be either traded or cut and there have already been beat writers who reported that. But it’s being phrased as if it is a new development. In that tweet’s case, I highly doubt the person tweeting that has any clue what the Pats are doing this week with any team as far as trade discussions go.

Sorry for the rant. It’s just a peeve of mine I see way too often especially on social media. Already seen a handful of troll accounts with their usual “the Pats are finalizing a trade with” stuff and people fall for it too easily. I think the Pats will, and should, look into Garoppolo but I promise you that you and I are as clued in to what exactly they will do as the person who tweeted that.
