Player Signing Trent Brown trade to Pats

What did we trade away?
also this must mean we have no interest in Mariiota at least on his current contract?
i believe we got him and a 7th...we sent a 5th in return to the Raiders. Sucks he is only on a 1 year deal for $11M i think. good to have him back and we have a real solid line now

Trent Brown is an amazing pass blocker but again who is our QB? And who are our WRs besides Jacobi Meyers?
They'll get a couple in FA.

There is ZERO guarantee you get a 3rd for Thuney. ZERO. All it takes is one signing of a UFA and a 3rd comp for Thuney is gone.
Center is the 2nd most important position on the line after the blind-side tackle. Paying an All-Pro player like Thuney 12-14M is a no brainer. It's a huge step up from Andrews.
Wynn, Onwenu, Thuney, Mason, Brown is a MASSIVE, O-line with good mobility. You're going to open up LOTS of running room for your RBs without having to over-rely on TEs and WRs to do blocking.
Losing Cannon and Andrews while adding Brown and retaining Thuney is a massive upgrade to the line if Thuney is retained.

I thought i liked Thuney .. but this is borderline illness developing here I hope somebody is there with you March 15..

David Andrews is weak link of your offensive line, you have a pretty damn good o-line. I bet at least a half to two thirds of the league wishes they had a center at least as good as Andrews.

So, your bet is that Andrews is a top 10 center. got it.
I disagree. I think he's between the 11th and 15th best.

I am not sure where he is. I just think he is really good at calling blocking assignments which is a vastly underrated part of the center play.

Honest question: If the Pats have an excellent OL and a great running game, do they get to win games with a mediocre-to-below-average QB? (Assuming the defense shows up too)
I think a BB team with a great running game and good defense wins more than 8 games. Weird-ass covid season be damned

This dude has a center fetish. He’d rather have Dave Andrews than a prime Randy Moss

The fact that Onwenu was "good" at tackle was a bonus. It doesn't mean that's his permanent spot. Just that he's got position flexibility the Pats didn't realize. GUARD is where they had him pegged when they drafted him.

why the "good" on good? he was actually better than good. they had him "pegged" at OG because that's where he played in college. it appears that the experts missed big time on his athleticism and "pegged" him as a fat dude with an attitude.

Like I said, you don't move good tackles to guard with the exception of mid-season for injury reasons.

Interesting trade

I guess Brown preferred sure money over the uncertainty of being cut loose in this bizarre free agency year.
How do you mean? He got traded--not sure he had a choice either way.

Unless I missed something somewhere ITT

Why? I don't buy for a second that guard as a position is that much less valuable than tackle. Same with left tackle vs right tackle. You need talent at all 5 spots, and you certainly don't downgrade the average ability of the OL just so the tackles are better.

show me someone who excelled at tackle who was placed at OG.......it's simply harder to find good tackles

to be honest, a guy who has the tools to be a tackle and possess the leverage of an OG could prove to be an answer to today's super fast ends on defenses defending the pass.

If one remembers the scouting on Trent Brown, he's actually an ELITE pass protector but surprisingly not good at run blocking. He's massive in size which is why teams keep putting him at RT where he has not been a good RT on the 49ers and Raiders. When Scar got ahold of Brown they had Brown play elite left tackle and Cannon at RT. Trent Brown knows the left tackle position on the Patriots plus we have a young stud on a good contract playing right tackle right now named Michael Onwenu. The biggest wild card in this is actually Isiah Wynn who in my mind hasn't solidified any job and is small at 6'2. Trent Brown's best position is LT for us, keep Onwenu at what he's already doing which is RT, see if Wynn can play a full season at LG, and say bye to Cannon.

.
You just made a post saying idiots rely on scouting reports then (incorrectly) site s outing reports to make an argument

It's a nice problem to have, in the end, I think he ends up at Guard with Brown and Wynn being our tackles...I love the flexibility of our line. If we keep Thuney, it really is versatile!!

it's good to have the pieces in place since it all starts in the trenches

if we keep Thuney with that o line..harry may have about 40 seconds of free time to get open

Can we wait until after free agency and the draft before making these type of comments? Is that asking too much?

honestly an O line of Brown, Thuney, Andrews, Mason, Onwenu, Wynn might be the best o line of the past 10 years in the nfl
