Player Signing Trent Brown trade to Pats

1. We traded a 2022 5th for Brown and a 2022 7th back. I think this was worth it.
2. Wynn has missed 30 games in 3 years. Brown was a top3 LT in the entire league in 2018. Onwenu was elite at RT. Cannon will be 33 or 34.
3. Given all the above, for stability at the more valuable tackle positions it would appear that Brown at LT and Onwenu at RT might be the most stable. I think Wynn hasn't proven he owns the LT spot, I would slide WYNN to LG. Keep Mr. Onwenu at RT. Brown already showed he can be elite at LT so I wouldn't mess with him and move him to RT. Again this all is based on the Wynn not having earned the LT spot.

.
It's the NFL. Everyone is a hit away from retirement. How does a guy rolling up on Wynn make him injury prone when he had no problems in college. Again life in the NFL.

One could argue Brown wasn't even a top 2 OL in 2018 on his on team. Definitely not a top 3 tackle lol.

Also for stability purposes I'm not moving multiple guys around, just kick Onwenu inside where he was very good.

For stability purposes, since Onwenu is already at RT and was excellent at this more important tackle position, is to just slide Isiah Wynn inside 1 spot. That's the least amount of changing.

Brown-Wynn- center -Mason-Onwenu

At this point Onwenu is a better tackle for us than Wynn is. Wynn has missed 30 games and is unreliable, it wasn't 1 long injury but multiple injuries every single year.

Nothing you've said for 6 months makes any sense

Like most here. Great move. Harris and Michel must be ecstatic. Hopefully we can get get some talent around this O line. lots of moves to come. Love this time of year.

What no one knows is that Mason's been working hard at center (this is a joke).

Wynn-Onwenu-Mason-Cannon-Brown...goal line stand that, I dare ya.
Almost right, it's going to be Wynn-Onwenu-Belichick-Mason-Brown. Bill has experience as a center after all.

Why do people care more that Wynn played guard in college when Onwenu played guard in the NFL (and dominated, which Wynn has not proven he can do at guard in the NFL)?

It's literally just because of his height that you guys don't think he's a real tackle, but he's already proven that assumption wrong.

Onwenu was a G his entire college career

Trent Brown gave us the best LT play I can remember over the last 20 years in his short stint here.
My ideal line would be
LT-Brown
LG-Thuney
C-Andrews
RG-Mason
RT-Onwenu
reserves would be Wynn and Cannon.

I seriously want us to find a way to keep Thuney and Andrews. Trade Wynn away if we have to.
Wynn is the most talented of all of them.

I debated putting that in my post to bolster my point, but it seemed redundant and the sentence was already long. Either way, it's stupid that people think he absolutely HAS to play tackle. Especially based on the logic that "tackle is more important than guard". That's how you get destroyed up the middle.

The man dominated at RT.

Not sure why folks are quick to move him.
According to Reiss, who I trust, he was better at Guard. Who are we putting at Guard then if we don't resign Thuney, Wynn? I'm not
trying to be down on Wynn, but I trust Owenu at guard more than I do Wynn at this point...then the questions begs to ask, who do I trust
more at tackle, Cannon, Wynn or Owenu....

We also have Herron as a back up possibly as the swing tackle ? This is going to be a great OL with back up(s).
Yes, Herron just provides added depth. He was pretty good last year at tackle.

Not to mention he had a skill set that is better suited to be a G.

Interesting excerpt from Lazur and his take:

The first domino to fall after the Brown trade is that starting left guard Joe Thuney will likely leave the team in free agency, meaning he’ll need to be replaced on the left side.

New England now has flexibility along the offensive line. Brown can play either tackle spot, but making him the starting right tackle makes the most sense in the current environment.

Second-year standout Michael Onwenu would then move inside to guard, where he’s a more natural fit due to his guard body type, level of foot speed, and immense blocking power.

Onwenu played more snaps at tackle and was good.......you don't take a good tackle and make them a guard

The rest of the roster is a mess but having a solid O-line is a major plus for whomever ends up at QB. If we can bring back Andrews I think this could be one of our best offensive lines in a long time (on paper at least).

He’s out of place at T. He doesn’t have the agility and foot speed to succeed there consistently.

Isaiah Wynn, out of 48 NFL games, has only played 18 of them. He's had so many multiple injuries with toe, ankle, knee, achilles. The kid played 0, 10, 8 games in 3 years and has not earned the starting LT job. Wynn is only 6'2 in size and I think moving him inside to LG, where he played well as a Junior at Georgia, might help his durability.

Waking up this morning, I didn't expect to see Trent Brown coming back to the Patriots. Being on a 1 year deal, I'm surprised so many people are writing off Thuney staying. Thuney is an upgrade over Andrews and it's not even close. The two headed monster of Harris and Michel played very well at the end of the season. An O-line of Wynn, Onwenu, Thuney, Mason, Brown would be such a significant upgrade.

This all but ends Cannon's tenure on the team. Whether he made the decision or the team made it. He's been a helluva good RT for the Pats. While the rings he's earned are good, his greatest achievement was beating Cancer. Nothing but respect for him.
I'd love it - but I wonder what the $ situation is... "yes" they have more cap space than most, but BB and Thuney were (seemingly) unable to get a deal last year - I don't see them coming to an agreement this Spring either...
