Player Signing Trent Brown trade to Pats

Everyone's so quick to dump Cannon.

Maybe they take his $7 million salary and extend him a year with a small total bump up - so two years at 4.5m per.

Reduce his snap count to protect that older body and let him gradually work up to playing shape after a year off.

I see that as a win-win. Cannon might get an extra life in the NFL and the Pats have a powerful teacher/back-up and situational force on the OL at reasonable dollars.

Trent Brown gave us the best LT play I can remember over the last 20 years in his short stint here.
My ideal line would be
LT-Brown
LG-Thuney
C-Andrews
RG-Mason
RT-Onwenu
reserves would be Wynn and Cannon.

I seriously want us to find a way to keep Thuney and Andrews. Trade Wynn away if we have to.
I think Owenu has to be at guard, it's his best position. Would love to keep Thuney, but not sure if the salary cap will permit it.

We also have Herron as a back up possibly as the swing tackle ? This is going to be a great OL with back up(s).

Anyone speculate as to when a decision would be made on Cannon , could this play out until Camp. I appreciate that he has had a year to recover from any lingering injuries but this maybe offset by a year not playing ?? .......and then would he be asked to take a pay cut ?

Interesting, I think the one thing I am seeing with this move is that it gives us multiple options...Here are a few more:

LT: Wynn LT: Brown LT: Brown
LG: Owenu LG: Owenu LT: Owenu
C: Andrews C:Andrews C:Thuney
RG: Mason RG: Mason RG: Mason
RT: Brown RT: Wynn RT: Wynn

I think the one constant that we see is Cannon is probably gone and so is Thuney, although can you imagine a Owenu, Thuney Mason interior line...nasty!!!!

I just don't see Wynn on the right side........if anything, I'd see Onwenu at LT and Brown at RT......someone as good as Onwenu was at tackle, you don't move them to guard

Brown was there with Mariota he would have insight on him to feed BB if he asked for it.
Your comment was this trade must mean we don’t want Mariota. How do you get that?

Guys, we have tons of flexibility, with a number of very high quality players, and no way is BB through. We don't need to figure out exactly what the OL is going to look like, because there are still other moves to be made. Just be thrilled that they are adding a player of Brown's level for a very low price. BB is off to a very good start.

1. We traded a 2022 5th for Brown and a 2022 7th back. I think this was worth it.
2. Wynn has missed 30 games in 3 years. Brown was a top3 LT in the entire league in 2018. Onwenu was elite at RT. Cannon will be 33 or 34.
3. Given all the above, for stability at the more valuable tackle positions it would appear that Brown at LT and Onwenu at RT might be the most stable. I think Wynn hasn't proven he owns the LT spot, I would slide WYNN to LG. Keep Mr. Onwenu at RT. Brown already showed he can be elite at LT so I wouldn't mess with him and move him to RT. Again this all is based on the Wynn not having earned the LT spot.

The cap savings is 7 mill. which can net a hell of a free agent player instead of a 6th ol you hope still had it.

he's 33 and just sat for a year........my sense it will be more about economics and if they can get someone who will make more of a difference using that money....they have a guy making rookie minimum in his sport.....there's nowhere else on the line for him to go

Yeah. Onwenu played well at tackle but he belongs at G.

Actually they just traded for his replacement.

Brown already moved to RT with the Raiders and really has mostly been a RT his entire career. Wynn at LT brown at RT and onwenu at G has all 3 at their natural
Positions rather than all 3 not.

Respectfully disagree. I don't think that's their "natural" positions. Trent Brown was elite here at LT. He knows the Patriot LT position. Isiah Wynn hasn't locked down LT and he is too injury prone. I would kick Wynn inside to guard where he played LG a lot while at Georgia. Brown-Onwenu is the best most stable pair at tackles than a pairing of Wynn-Brown.

Yeah. Onwenu played well at tackle but he belongs at G.

Why? Onwenu played well all year at RT so why mess with this? And Brown played elite LT for the Pats. Wynn is the one who played a ton of guard in college and is the least reliable among Brown or Onwenu at tackle. Send Isiah Wynn inside to play LG.

No we see this 100% differently.

I love this move. Whatever the combination ends up being, this is the first of two moves (the other being re-signing or replacing Andrews) that maintains an OL that was the strength of the offense last year (I know, I know, not a super high bar there). Long way to go, but this is a good start.
