Charlie Weis beating the "Patriots should draft Mac Jones" drum

How is it that Mac Isnt the 1st pick in the draft?

He just went undefeated and won the national championship. Played fantastic.

Who the hell wants Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance when they could have Mac Jones? Now, Reiss is writing that Mac has some Tom Brady in him. What more do people need?

There is a list of about 4 QBs that are consistently in the top tier before you see Mac Jones even mentioned.

Jones’ draft stock is rising fast. Carolina at #8 apparently really likes him and may well take him if they do not land Watson. I do not think he is going to be available at #15, in fact I have doubted that all along.

This is going to be really hard for you to understand, but the draft is an inexact science. It is very difficult to gauge how any player will be in the NFL when he comes out of college. You have brought up a few of the issues yourself. How good is the team around him. I look at running backs from big schools and really call their numbers into question, if they have a huge hole on every run then they are going to put up huge numbers. Just like the qb that has all day to throw and his wr's are wide open with all day to throw, will put up gaudy numbers. However that doesn't mean that rb or qb is bad, it just means you have to take that into account. I have seen a number of write up in the last week or two saying how good Jones really is, not sure if it it true or not, just another person's opinion.

Finally, the people that write these lists you put so much stock in would be getting paid huge $$$$$ working for teams in the NFL if they really were that good, they aren't.

We know the draft is not an exact science when the Pats draft a Kneal Harry. The excuse makers come out of the woodwork to let everyone its not the GMs fault for making a terrible selection. The teams that identify a QB like Mahomes and Herbert dont need excuses because they did their job. You pay the price in losses for the "no exact science" mea culpa.

What you dont get is that when you do not have a starting QB (like NE and JAX and DEN) that there is no margin for error drafting one unless youre willing to throw a low pick for him. Unlike today, Stidham was taken to be groomed while Brady played. He is likely a Bust, but he only cost a 4th and it didn't pay off.

To hear you yell it, the Pats better take Jones and take him before another team gets him.

Walterfootball had Herbert @ # 2 QB last draft. Walterfootball has Jones @ rounds 2 - 4 this draft. I would be willing to spend a 4th on Jones, but never the Pats 2 top draft picks.

Ummm because they all project better than Jones that’s why. Jones is a poor athlete and had an obscene amount of WR talent to work with. I would take Jones in the 2nd at earliest.

Really don't want to see them reach for Jones.

If teams start getting silly I would look for a vet and focus on other positions of need in the draft and FA - and there are plenty of needs to address.

Hopefully a year from now we are in a much better position to attract a QB or pick a really good one. A good offseason by GM Bill and the Pats won't have to wait long for the window to start opening again.

Charlie needs to worry about beating obesity before he worries about beating the Mac Jones drum.

If they really like him and think he can be the guy, then paying a single mid first round pick is definitely worth it.

Yeah no QB should get surrounded with that inferior Talent at WR/TE. Can't expect big things from a QB in that situation.

Yeah that's right, probably like 99 percent of the prospects have their questions/concerns which they need to improve. I just think especially the time he had is a big thing. I watched every Bama game this past season full time and he did made some nice throws under pressure but mostly they protected him well..i think tough he would be a good fit.
I remember people like you saying the exact same BS about Brown, Patten and Johnson. Then about Brown, Patten, Givens and Branch when they had Graham and then Graham and Watson. And guess what.. The players were better than many gave them credit for.

And that's the case currently. Meyers is easily a Givens equivalent. Asiasi and Keene are question marks as is Harry. Olszewski seems to be developing nicely as a slot type of receiver and having a similar trajectory as Edelman did. It remains to be seen if he takes the next step as a receiver, but the times that he was thrown to, he made the catches.

I am here since one year so don't know what to say about this

Did anything in my Post imply that i have no confidence in meyers gunner and that i gave up hope on the rookie TE? I said many times i have confidence in last years draft will be a good one. Don't know why you think my Post was negative related except that we had one of the worst weapons last year and i don't think this is sth you disagree with

If Jones is a poor athlete, so is Brady. The argument that he is a poor athlete because he is not a running QB is just lame. I understand he had incredible WR talent, but he still had to make all the throws. No one doubts his ability to make NFL throws. He is cerebral and does not make many mistakes.

I think it's a good point - Brady had unprecedented success in NE and was never the fastest or strongest-armed. He succeeded (and continued to in Tampa) because he is accurate, brilliant on the field and a top-shelf leader. If Mac Jones can be as accurate (seems plenty accurate), smart (all accounts seem to report this is at least good) and a leader (high marks all around on him here) I can see parallels. But is that all worth #15?

Actually everything you've described is only worth #199. But that guy went on to prove a LOT of people wrong. The problem is that the draft is still a crapshoot. All the physical measurables in the world don't tell you that a guy has the heart of a lion, the decision-making of a general, or that he can will his teams to Superbowls with lesser talents, and is just as capable of turning a losing culture with talented but undisciplined individuals into a united Superbowl winning entity.

We just watched 20 years of a supposedly athletically-challenged QB dominate the league like never before and we are worried about this canard? We wouldn’t pay Jones to run. He moves very nicely in the pocket and does not appear to have happy feet. I have concerns about moving up to #6 to take Jones (because I think it may well take that), but I think he has more of the right stuff to play in the NFL than anyone in this draft, save Lawrence and maybe Wilson. I would take him over Fields every day and twice on Sunday. And I have no faith in a NDSU QB that high.

We're already comparing Mac Jones to the GOAT? Yikes.

Low...don't get personal on a weight problem
Why not? It’s unhealthy. If he wants to live longer and not succumb to congestive heart failure, he needs to lose weight. The man ate his way through Gastic Bypass FFS.

That’s a canard too. Saying you do not need to be an “uber-athlete” to be successful as a NFL QB is not comparing Jones to Brady.

Dismissing concerns about a guy's athleticism "because Brady" - is a comparison. Brady does a whole bunch of other things well that Jones will never come close to doing.

And no one thought Brady would smash all of Montana’s records. You do not know what Jones will become. And Jones does not have to be the greatest ever to be a success.
