Patriots have spoken to every team about QBs

Am I only one who looks at the past 5 drafts and says to myself "I actually would consider sending 3 firsts and 3 2nds for watson" Roast me.

If we didn't have so much to rebuild, I'd agree with you.

2nd round picks are awful for us, just give them the next 7-8 years worth and call it a day lol. I was thinking about it last night, if they did something like that you could actually attract the FA wideouts like Galladay and Godwin. It would never happen but COVID and the cold winter has my mind going in all different directions.

Depends on if the guy sending us Watson was ultimately responsible for them. Can’t really be much of a coincidence that the drafts went from solid with Reese to one turd after another with Creepy Caserio.

Even just so Bill won't get a DB in the second.

The Floyd Reese angle is something I never considered. Cant really argue against the fact those drafts kept the dynasty going

I am really thinking they want to make a move before Free Agency, so they are basically signaling to free agents that they want to win this year and not in 2-3 years from now. Easier to sell that angle in negotiations when your QB isn't 2020 Cam Newton or Stidham. Ultimately players follow the money, but in a year where there are fewer teams that can offer decent money, if offers are similar, players will want to go where they can be win and be productive too.

I think Belichick does stuff like this for several reasons:

First, it is just due diligence. Even if he isn't interest in a QB, he can get the real value of other QBs he might be targeting by getting a feel what other teams are looking for with other QBs. If Oakland is asking X for Mariotta, it could affect what the trade value Garoppolo has.

Second, it is a misdirection play. If Belichick really has his sights set on a major trade for say Watson or Wilson, it strengthens his bargaining position if teams think he is ready to pull a deal to trade for Mariotta or Garoppolo. And considering Houston and Seattle would hold most of the cards in any trade like this, even the slightest gain in leverage could help. Or it could be the other way around. When you are a buyer in the trade market, making the other team think you think their player is just another guy on their trade list definitely helps your bargaining position.

I wonder if Aaron Rodgers is secretly on the block?

He would save Green Bay $22M as a post June 01 trade.

They have their pick from last year.

Rodgers would most likely be beyond motivated to prove the was coaching and the organization that has kept him to only one ring.
It won't ever happen but if Rodgers becomes available you NEED to do everything possible to get him.

Bill will only get a guy looking for an opportunity. On the other hand, any established-good QB would not want to go there.

If Watson or Wilson are truly available, I wouldn't be upset if the Pats gave up multiple firsts for either. The Patriots tend to be a roster better via free agency than they do the draft. Hell, they did better in the undrafted free agent market in 2018 than he did in the first round.

You're not the only one. Bill's draft's since 2013 have been pretty bad. In fact, the drafts from 2009-2012 is what kept the train running and signing mid level veterans to help cover up the draft blunders starting with Dom Easley. But here's the problem, Watson has a no trade clause and will most likely reject going to the Pats.

Pushing the GOAT out of the organization was a bad move and any worthy QB will take note of that.

Good

nowhere to go but up with the QB situation

if they can’t find one maybe the should put Harry back there. Couldn’t be worse than Cam and it would open up a spot for an NFL caliber receiver

The 2015 draft was a decent draft. Malcolm Brown didn't live up to his draft position, but was a decent starter. Nothing special, but decent. But Trey Flowers played like a first rounder. So he made up for that. Shaq Mason was a steal in the 4th. Clearly wasn't one of their best drafts, but they got three starters in that draft with two of them being above average to very good starters.

It makes me nervous they didn’t make serious offers for either Wentz or Stafford. I wouldn’t have given that much for Stafford and I flat out don’t like Wentz but it makes me nervous that Bill doesn’t want to pay the going rate for an NFL starter (ballpark of $25 mill a year). The days of having the best QB in the league not maximizing every dollar are gone. Now it’s time to pay up and if he pushed Brady out the door for $25 mill a year I feel like we may end up with Cam again.

I really liked Tre' Jackson and was better than Shaq Mason, but that nagging knee injury derailed his career. Would've been a really good pass blocking Guard. What a shame.

Flowers was a very good 4th round pick, but playing like a 1st rounder is a stretch. Evan Lazar talked about how Flowers had the most unblocked pressures in 2018 and was on the brink of calling him overrated but he said he couldn't do it.

Thuney was obviously a great find in the 2016 draft. With that said, the last all pro or pro bowl player drafted that wasn't a special teamer was Jaime Collins. No game changing talent on either offense or defense. That's not good.

Flowers definitely played like a first rounder. Maybe not like a top 15 pick, but certainly like a pick where the Pats usually pick in the late 20s or at the end of the first round. He didn't get five years, $90 million from Detroit for nothing. Sure the Lions were stupid to pay him that, but he was a solid starter here.

End of the first round fine, but Flowers is not a game changing talent and that contract from Detroit was out of pure desperation by Patricia. Rumor was he was very desperate to get someone to be the buffer as he was losing the locker room fast. I will be shocked if he's not a cap casualty this year. That was one of the worst contracts in recent memory.

He reminds me of Gabe Wilkins going to SF in the late 90's as that was a hyped up signing. Looked good on the Packers who were a championship contender, but was a complete bust in SF.
