OT: 2021 NFL QB Prospects List or 1st Round Discussion

I think BB would drool over him if he was available in Round 2. Big LB fits the mold. Is he a top-half of Round 1 guy?

Didn't he win college defensive player of the year. I dunno, would Zaven Collins last to the 2nd round ?

.

Everyone says trade up for Quarterback X, Y, or Z...

The guy I'd trade up a few places for is Parsons.
In a vacuum, yes...But I wouldn't invest my first pick in this draft in another LB after having used 2 of last year's top-100 picks on the same general position (3 if one thinks of Uncle Dugg as more a LB than Safety)...Same goes for TE...

Plus I'm not sure people realize how much coaching up Parsons needs. Players like him guess a lot. He really got by with his athletic ability and almost nothing else. The splash plays are there but he guesses a ton. Which again isn't unique to him and guys like him (White for example) but it's all over the place. There's some film (Idaho/Buffalo) that is just bad but the potential is there.

The real reason we would pick him is his pass rush/blitz abilities. Former rush coming into PSU and never lost that attacking mentality. I mean hes still very raw I don't think people realize just how green he is. Bill would get enticed bc he's someone who could potentially take on linemen and pressure the QB from multiple spots. He has a long way to go imo. Definitely more of a gamble when you talk about experience, what we need and he did manage to get caught up in that bs. PSU was probably the biggest clown show going for a few years. No direction or conviction.

Yeah i think especially the misreads of some run plays are my biggest concern. Completely out of position to make any play even his athletic and speed. Got faked out several times against OSU for example on qb option, but i still like him a lot.

Part of the problem for me is mitigating risk here. That's always a must but we need a playmaker. We need a hit. I'm not really opposed to just want to make sure we walk away with player who fits/buys in, can play right now and get a little better.

Yeah that's probably the reason i don't really have a favored Position for our First pick just a playear who can play right away and contribute. A playmaker would be nice, don't care for offense or defense. I think I would even consider CB if we move on from Gilmore but preferrable no DB with the first pick cause that is probably the position we are Set if gilmore stays and JC Jackson as well

Just wanted to point out that I meant TE there, not WR...although I would also be somewhat hesitant to use #15 on a WR unless the long-term QB situation has already been addressed pre-draft...

That's about right, if we spent #15 on Collins or Parsons or best DLineman available I'd be fine.
I would be ok with getting them as well, but for D-Line I prefer Nixon in the second and or Shelvin

I never bother my brain trying to figure out what Belichick will do. I will wait and see for myself if he made a good move or what he does to correct his mistake. It is easier for me to enjoy the Pats.

One thing I do like is he is acquiring coaches. Right now he has more coaches than he has ever had in a season. He just acquired an assistant OC to assist Josh McDaniels. I suspect he will be acquiring a new young QB this coming season for the assistant to coach.

Good luck Bill

That's why I don't think Lawrence is some magical savior. Brady himself was the 7th QB taken. I think a lot of it is development and hard work after being drafted. No QB taken is even half of what they need to become without a ton of hard work and improvement. Andrew Luck was supposed to be a sure thing too.
Luck was a top ten, maybe top five QB in the league and was good right away. So was the last can't miss prospect- Manning. In the regular season, anyway.

If we're no longer in the long-term QB business by the draft, then I would LOVE Kwitty Paye at #15.
I read somewhere that paye said to some people that he did drop pounds to 260. I kind of hoped he could turn more in the 280 area to be a stud 5 tech here even on early downs against the run. Don't know how this will effect his athletic and quickness but it could get even better. Still like him a lot as well. There are some other edge guys i would not mind as well between rd. 2-5 : Weaver, Hayes, Gholston, Phillips, Perkins

This may have been posted elsewhere, but here's a guy who would take Corkie Jones over TLawrence. The following stat is pretty interesting:

"Last season, Jones hit on 58.9 percent of his passing attempts 20-plus yards downfield. And factoring in dropped passes, Pro Football Focus had Jones at an adjusted completion percentage on those attempts at a scalding 67.1."

But then it goes on to say:
"Interestingly, Wilson was higher than Jones in both metrics — 62.5 percent and 67.9, respectively. But both of those quarterbacks had exactly 56 such attempts last season, and Mac Jones threw for more yards (1,355 to 1,286) on deep balls in 2020.
June Jones believes it's that little difference [really? 1.25yds per attempt that much of a difference?], making slightly more accurate throws downfield, that bumps Mac Jones a notch ahead of Zach Wilson."

Collins just sounds like a BB player......versatile, can line up all over

I really like Zaven Collins. He seems like the Hightower heir apparent. Some draft sites even list Hightower as his comp. I like big smart LBs who can do a lot of things. I'm not opposed to Parsons but smaller fast guys like Mayo etc, sure they can go sideline to sideline but can they stuff 3rd and short and goal line. Pats LBs don't need to be super duper fast, just big smart tough, tackle well, be in the right spots, have play recognition, and be able to do a lot of things.
