Other than $ why would UFA choose NE over other suitors?

Some players came here for a chance to get a ring, especially veterans that were on teams going nowhere. Veterans looking for a team to that with probably aren't looking at the Patriots right now.

He has a point
Or it could be bad drafting and crippling cap restraints record number of Covid opts outs.
I can’t wait to see how Bill rebuilds this and makes teams beg for mercy while we are up 30 and he is scoring at will.
I’m really intrigued and stoked to see how he does maybe his biggest feat in his coaching career.

BB has reputation as not being a players coaches and players do not speak glowingly of him. Crappy stadium. Cold climate. Popular UFA just said he would go anywhere EXCEPT NE. Matt Patricia is not loved by players. Brady years are over and they are in rebuilding mode.
THe one thing about bringing Cam back is that he is a popular guy amongst players and might help with recruiting UFA.
Feeling like NE is not exactly a preferred destination right now.
They should fire BB, hire a pom-pom shaking coach who lets the players run the team, build a new domed stadium and overpay for FAs.

That'll be the foundation for Dynasty III

I hope its not a long wait too. I think it's going to be a while though. The run we had was special.

Just saw this thread. And this post. My first thought was... "crappy stadium"? Gillette is a "crappy stadium"? LOL what?

The reasons to come besides money are:

1. Playing for the greatest coach ever.
2. Playing in a first-class organization from the owner down.
3. There are opportunities to start here.

I mean, those aren't bad reasons to come to NE.
There’s also something to be said for stability. You know if you’re coming to the Pats, you’re playing for BB your entire time here (despite the people who want to run him off for one 7-9 season). It’s not like other franchises where the coaching staff that brought you in might only last a few months and then the team is going through a rebuild with a whole other scheme.

eh Matt Suckfford is not a winner so he doesnt want to play for a winner

The Pats are not the only team with money. There will be plenty of teams vying for services around the league. The question becomes how attractive are the Pats to FAs? If Stafford is any indication, we are going to have to vastly overpay to get talent.

Over half the league is at or below the salary cap of $176M. Don't forget the teams have to keep about +$10M (I am not a capologist so I am estimating) to pay for the rookies in the draft and injury settlements during training camp, etc., so during the FA signing period you can think of the cap being $166M. With the cap dropping there will be more veterans released than usual and less than the half the teams have cap space to sign this increased pool of released veterans. There will be bargains galore. Any idea that the Pats will have to overpay for FAs ignores the simple understanding of supply and demand. The supply is going way up and the demand is going way down, therefore the FA price goes down. If guys sit out a year waiting for the FA market to rebound in a year or two, It is more than likely they will be replaced and never play again - the players and agents know this. The owners took it on the chin in 2020 with significantly reduced revenue and now the players have to face the same situation because the salary cap is linked to the league's revenue. There is no way with a shrinking cap for any team to start "over paying".

Why did you feel this needed its own thread? Can’t we at least wait until FA actually starts before this is posted?
we are onto the offseason

I don’t think the cap will be 176. It won’t shock me if it’s higher. We shall see. I expect a lot of players to take one year deals.

There seems this weird disconnect on this thread. Either FAs are giving us a discount (to play with Brady, win championships, eat chowdah, etc.) or the Pats have to overpay. Why isn’t it that if we’re not getting a discount we’re simply paying sticker price? Paying the most for a free agent isn’t overpaying. Overpaying is paying more than they’re worth (see Kirk Cousin’s salary) not paying appropriately for what you get (see Gilmore’s salary).

Given the state of the roster, many see us having to overpay to get FAs to come here.

No one is coming to the post-Brady Patriots unless the money is better, and Bill will not overpay. If he starts to, you can be really sure that he’s feeling the heat.

To all of you, Belichick is the greatest believers, you fail to recognize that your opinion might not be universally held. It isn’t. I now see Belichick as no better than Andy Reid without Pat Mahomes if that good. He’s not a miracle worker. And, no one is going to put up with his ego and his ways long if that’s the case.

Bill had a record number of opt outs with Hightower and Chung we we win at least 2 more Games.
This team will be a force next season I espect BB to take a more hands on approach to everything next season.
His reputation his legacy is being questioned.
This team will rise.

Jesus.

Belichick can't recruit talent.

Belichick has to overpay.

Belichick has an ego.

No one wants to come here.

Belichick is cheap.

Belichick is no better of a coach than Andy Reid.

It's clear you certainly are not a believer in BB.

Might as well of had Barry Switzer coach the last 20 years.

Everyone including Miguel is assuming $176M.

The players can only sign the deal they are offered. In a down market with the supply much greater than the demand, the ability of the player to demand the type of deal they want is greatly diminished. Teams will be offering 2 to 3 year deals at a minimum I would guess.
