Stafford on the trading block [update: traded to Rams]

If he was 28-29, in a heartbeat. I hesitate only because he's 32.

I'd prefer the younger Garappolo (29), but I wouldn't be particularly upset with Stafford; he's a darn good quarterback.

i'm just happy there are some half decent options around. I wouldn't be unhappy with Stafford but think he will be a bit too expensive in terms of picks relative to his age. I think he is a better QB than JG

If we would be a contender next season and only a qb missing i would be in for stafford or Jimmy g but we have so many holes i don't want to use our First pick where we have lots of options trade up or down for other picks to pick Hopefully long term starters. This would not only require a high pick but also lots of cap space we need for WR TE DE DT LG C starting caliber and Back Ups.

Trying to gauge what it would take. Closest comparison i can think of is carson palmer in 2011 to the raiders for a 1st and 2nd rounder. Palmer was also 32 I believe. They are the Raiders though. But anything near that would be a no for me.
Alex Smith from Chiefs to Washington. Similar year to Stafford before he was traded. Same age I think. Cost Washington a third rounder plus Kendall Fuller. The benefit to KC here was also the cap room.

He will most likely go for at least a first rounder. There are too many teams (Broncos, 49ers, Colts, Pats and maybe more) that are interested in Stafford for there not to be a bidding war.

Even if he doesn’t come to us we should drive up the price the Colts have to pay and cost them a first rounder. Oh the humanity!

sounds more accurate but 15 is to much for 2 years, rather bet on Mac Jones there if nothing else

That being said, I'm lukewarm into the idea of trading a first-round pick for him because I think the team has too many holes to address. Getting Stafford would make sense if the team has a solid base where you could anticipate that adding Stafford could propel them into contention for getting a playoff win or two. However, the Patriots are most likely in year 1 of a rebuild so Stafford's on the market a year too early for him to be worth a first for the Patriots. Now, if they can get him for a 2nd (which I doubt), that would be a different story.

I get what you are saying but if there is one thing anyone should have learned this year it is that available good QBs are not available every year. Just because you are maybe one year away from fully leveraging his abilities doesn't mean you shouldn't acquire him and put yourself into a position to be competitive either already this year -- if things go your way -- or the following.

Look at the Colts. They had everything put together to be a contender since Luck retired but couldn't figure out that one position and reap the benefits from their draft/FA success.

Personally, I'd rather send the 49ers their second round pick back for JG and use #15 to upgrade our front 7 but if we somehow end up the winner in the Stafford sweepstakes I would be satisfied as well.

I am not sold on Stafford..

No matter who they sign for QB it will not mean all that much unless they sign a WR (#1 & 2) and a very decent TE... the whole offense needs to be revamped, if it is as predictable as it seems from my big comfy couch, I suspect that opposing D Coordinators see the same thing.

Belichick does not want to suck for 3 years while he waits to see if a rookie is the real deal. He’s the ultimate competitor and you could tell how much he hated losing so many games this season.

This is why Stafford or Garoppolo will be signed along with a quality WR & TE. (I think Garoppolo, Hilton, Henry).

The rest of the draft will keep the D ticking over.

You understand that he makes these comments about every opponent right? None of them are real analysis they are fluff jobs to complement the opponent.
Just because he puffs up the opposition does not mean what he says is meaningless. He points out strengths and skills of his opponents, and being professional players they all have some. Read "these comments" more carefully and you will see he is not rolling out the same platitudes for each player. That is the reason the reported put it out there. Make of it what you will.

Stafford will be 33 on 2/7. Cam was 31 this season.

Instead of getting younger at QB, the Pats outsmart the rest of the NFL and are going the other direction.

Why is it that Pats cant draft a good young QB who isnt on IR every season like Jimmy?

Would definitely be an upgrade over Cam, but that #15 pick is alot to give up and that may not even be enough to get him.
Lets just use that selection on Trask if he is still there and bring in a FA QB who can hold the fort down until the rookie is good to go.

Stafford has never carried a team
The man has never elevated his team
Megatron elevated him
He's a dome enhanced Bledsoe

Then there's his perceived lack of leadership qualities.
After a year of Bill + team gushing about Cam's leadership, will they want a wallflower to be their new talisman

Triumph you never ceases to amaze me.

BB deserves his share of draft criticism but going after his ability to find a QB seems like a new low for you. Even while employing the GOAT he's managed to find several QBs capable of starting in this league. Fact QBs not named Brady who started their careers in NE under BB have gone on to start about 200 or so games in this league. Again that's while employing Tom and not having a need for QB.

Alex was a couple years older and fuller did start for kc that year so I think that evens out to a first round pick to be expected here. Not sure about a pick in the first half of the round though.

I expect Indy to make a push for Stafford
Their roster is built for the now except at QB
Management has only found temporary solutions for QB recently and might be the likeliest to bid the highest.
Hell, they tanked for a QB.......................a #21 draft pick should be no big deal to them

With decent QB and normal injury year BB team will always be a contender. If anything they have the Cap now (2021+22) to build around solid veteran QB if they can get one.
