He was absolutely brilliant against the Patriots this year and his numbers really do pop so maybe he really is top 3-5 but I would be concerned about why they are not even averaging 25 points a game for the past 3 years. He had Hopkins and Fuller plus a decent running game all 3 years and plays in a dome.Houston was 15th, 12th, and 16th in Offensive pts per game the last 3 years.
He does look good on tape, good arm, accuracy, can make plays with his legs but he is not really moving the needle for that sorry azz franchise. People talk so much about him like he's a HOF I'd expect a little more when it comes to W's. I said before , many great QB's also had to deal with weak rosters and got the W's.I do not watch many Houston games but this would be my concern as well. If you give up so much talent/draft capital and take on that salary I am not really sure where that leaves you.
I'd do #15, 2022 & 23 1st and Gilmore for Watson. Last thing I want to do is play musical chairs with QB after QB the next few years. We have plenty of cap space coming up and still would have 8-9 picks this year. Sign Golladay or Godwin or both **** it. Both are great contested catchers and right up Watson's alley. Draft BPA with our second. Try to target a speed threat like Schwartz or juke machine in Toney, route runner in Place after that to fill out the WR corp. Golladay/Godwin, Edleman, Meyers and draft pick would look pretty good right about now. We're not depending on rookies to carry the load on offense but have some young weapons that are ready to role and have a specific role.
Watson is frustrated and has every right to be. His team is asking him to win games but traded away his best and one of his only weapons. Making dumb move after dumb more. Clearly the FO and HC aren't up to the task. The team is in worse shape than it was when he first got there. It's been a joke for a few years now tbh.
He needs competency and structure. No one would be a happy camper in Houston.
You can get your franchise QB you do it without thinking twice if you can. We'd have a top 5-7 QB and top ten OL when healthy. That's the hard part imo. I mean if we can't find a few good targets after that we need new people making those decisions.
I would be absolutely shocked if Houston dealt Watson. Maybe he's that unhappy but they'd be in an awful spot without him and those picks are must-hits now that Watson is gone. Talk about backing yourself into a corner to where you have to get rid of your best player. Oakland thought they could replace Mack with a ton of valuable picks and are struggling like hell to generate pressure. I loved Abram coming out but he looks like he belongs playing in the 90's. CF is decent but decent isn't top 5 worthy and there's been talk about him switching positions and moving inside. Jacobs worked out but now you're faced with paying a RB very soon and that's never a good thing. I love draft picks more than most, they're extremely important but proven vets > unproven prospects all day every day. Prospects aren't even players yet, just prospects.
This is interesting to me. The premise being so whatever it takes to get a qb of this caliber. (I do disagree with many you put ahead of Watson but that’s a different topic)He does look good on tape, good arm, accuracy, can make plays with his legs but he is not really moving the needle for that sorry azz franchise. Mahomes
Brady
Rodgers
Wilson
Big Ben
Brees
Lamar
Matt Ryan
Josh Allen
Rivers ?
How is he a top 5 QB?
I'd also list a few that are generating more results on the field for their teams, ok they're in better situation but just to mention
Goff
Dak
JimmyG
Don't get me wrong he is a great player but for me the jury is still out
Easterbunny reminds me of Jafar from Aladin. Puts the king under a spell a makes him do what HE wantsCan’t blame him, this Easterby **** is crazy. Sounds like they’d pick Easterby over Watson.
Not accurate - it's $60m+ if he's cut, but it's only about $21m if he is traded. Even less if he is traded after June 1st but seems more likely it would happen before.I really feel this is a non-story. Houston already have cap issues and there would be $60m+ dead money if traded.
I also don't understand the Tua narrative. The fins seem to have decided he isn't good enough and want rid, so why would the Texans then take him? Especially if the 3rd overall pick is part of the package. Surely you'd rather just get Wilson/Fields there.

I think I actually posted this in this thread already - but I can see a scenario where they trade Watson to Miami for the #3 plus Tua, then draft whatever QB they like at #3, then trade Tua to someone else lower in the first who needs a QB. So they get their new face of the franchise at QB plus still get to pick in the 1st again. And shed Watson's big contract with only 1 year of cap damage since he seems like he wants to get out. A $21m dead money hit hurts but it doesn't hurt that bad if you are replacing him with a rookie salary at QB.
Watson had been assured by McNair that he would be involved in the process to hire a new coach and general manager and kept in the loop on the progress in those searches, but that didn't happen.
Yeah, for real. If you believe Florio's reporting, before flipping to Caserio, Texans had already offered the job to that Khan guyEasterbunny reminds me of Jafar from Aladin. Puts the king under a spell a makes him do what HE wants
I don’t see Miami ending the Tua experiment after his rookie season. They pick third and I can see them drafting Devonta Smith to help Tua. Trading those picks back for Watson makes very little sense.
