Silver Lining... Sony Michel

In comparison to what Sony? Who the original post was putting him up against. If so yes significantly more than Sony. 3x the catches and almost double the yards. If Chubb was here instead of Sony last year something tells me the offense looks better and maybe Brady is still here.
Pats won a SB w Sony.

Pats went 12-4 w Sony.

You speculate Tom stays because a better RB is in the backfield? Really?

Because we have a weapon on offense? Yes that would help. You can deflect from your original post all you want. You insinuated Chubb isn’t a real upgrade from Sony and that is flat out ridiculous.

It's not a deflection. It's a fact.

In the big picture RBs don't win SBs. QBs do.

I agree. At the same time half this board seems to defend the Sony Michel pick as he was their first born son. I would never take a RB early in the draft. The gap between an above average back and a great back is negligible. I can’t think of another position where that gap would even be close.

The reason many of us defend Sony is because he has been a solid back and not the bust that many make him out to be. Does not mean he was a great 1st round pick or that he is better than Chubb (he is not) but the relentless desire for many to continuously berate a player who helped the team win a Super Bowl bothers some of us. And of course he gets compared to Chubb who became exceptional instead of Rashaad Penny, Ronald Jones or Kerryon Johnson who were all selected within a dozen picks of Sony because it fits their preferred narrative.

And that's why if there should be regret over the Michel pick, it's not that he was drafted instead of Chubb, but instead of Lamar Jackson who even met twice with the Patriots in the lead-up to the draft.

Based on the Bills game I think Sony still has something to offer. Harris/Sony/Taylor would be a decent group of backs for 2021. Also Burkehead may recover from injury

Then they don't win the Super Bowl.

Sony is a keeper, he will be a good compliment to Harris, Rex and JJ....
Rex isn't returning until mid-season...if ever. Damn shame too; his loss was the final straw.

White shouldn't cost much to retain if TB doesn't start an auction for him, and Bolden could return from his opt-out if a younger version of him hasn't already been found by then.

Captain, thoughts on JJ? Didn't realize Rex was out until midseason...he was having a really good year...loved the combo of Harris/Rex

Sorry my bad , I forgot about White !.........he has had a terrible set of circumstances this season so hopefully he will stay for another year.

It's blindingly, painfully obvious to me that featuring Sony the last month after Damien went down was essential for us to compete AND Sony would be raring to go after missing so much time. Maybe he's not as good as Chubb; BUT he has an outstanding personal attitude and he is a winner. He and Julian and the rest are critically important to keeping the winning culture in that locker room. This has been a 2012 Red Sox-like season for us, and I wish for a similar rebound next year. With the right utilization of our cap money and some shrewd 2001-like addition of likely veteran personnel, [ok and the right QB] this team can be right back on top.

But this is crippling and fatal: Michel carries the last four games: 10,7,10,10

...while dropping the quarterback back to pass repeatedly on every down with the worst passing offense in football.

The necessity for dismissing Josh McDaniels is as necessary now for me as the merciful, belated departures of Tony Eason and his worshipper, Raymond Berry, the presence of whom eliminated any chance for the team to ever succeed. This is the point we've reached with Josh. I know Bill likes him. Tom likes him too and I've suggested that he go down there to rejoin him.

I don't want him here.

Sorry to rant Ash, thank you as always for your patience and I really really want your positivity to be rewarded in the new year.

Michel is showing he can be "effective" when he has Grand Canyon sized holes.

With that being said, he's a fine backup to Harris and make a good 1-2 punch.

Rex is a scat back, quick tight area tight of back. Knee injuries usually take longer for this type of back. Since he qualifies for the vet minimum, I doubt we sign him before the season starts, if ever. BB probably has a list of other scat backs to sign who are younger. But these guys commonly have knee injuries. I think it will be Sony, Harris, JJ and another vet scat back plus a late round draft pick. Maybe Bolden, but BB told the MNF crew he has no idea if the opt-outs will even play in 2021, so he is obviously foreshadowing some are not coming back.

He has been a dime of the dozen back. When the offensive line opens big holes he runs through them. He does what pretty much every running back in the league does. Same as he did in 2018. He isn't special in any way whatsoever. I think if you put Penny, Jones, or Johnson on that 2018 team you get similar results.

You could see his explosion after the handoff last night, reminded me of Rex that way...But sometimes he ran straight into a wall, so while his willingness to run inside is admirable and maybe that's where the play is designed to go, he has to learn how to quickly find another opening and then run through it like Rex used to do...Sony has the opposite problem; if the hole isn't immediately available he pitter-patters along the LOS until he is engulfed...Chubb OTOH has a knack, like Harris, for changing directions without losing much momentum, especially for their sizes, and therein lies the difference...

As a p.s., I am making an educated guess on Rex's future availability based on the severity of the injury and the time it occurred...I pray he makes a complete & expeditious recovery and is good to go for TC somewhere, but at his age & history...
