Gronk now has more yards than any Patriot receiver

Patriots pass attempts: 316

Buccaneers pass attempts: 474

difference of 158 attempts

Not really a ringing endorsement when Gronk only has 3 more yards than Byrd and only 60 more yards than Meyers when Brady has thrown it almost 160 times more and 60 of those have went Gronk's way (which he has caught 37)

huge difference in pass attempts

but let's compare those 2 ELITE WEAPONS to Byrd and Meyers

Evans & Godwin combined
141 targets
97 receptions
1,172 yards

Byrd & Meyers combined
102 targets
71 receptions
945 yards

If we are being honest Byrd & Meyers years are a little more impressive than Evans & Godwin outside of TDs) given they got a guy who on 1 play can throw a nice 40 yard pass and on the next 5 throws throw it short to someone wide open 10 yards in front of him and they are WRs on a run heavy offense

Bucs have thrown it the most in the NFL and they lead they league by 25 attempts. Pats have thrown it the 3rd least.'

And if this was an argument about keeping Gronk, it's terrible. Gronk wasn't coming back to the Pats. It wasn't like the Pats just decided to trade his contract rights to the Bucs. Gronk demanded the trade to the Bucs by threatening to unretire and put the Pats over the cap where they couldn't release him because of the dead hit so they had to trade him and he only wanted to be traded to the Bucs

Gronk has a QB who can throw the ball. If Gronk was here, he would still have Cam Newton throwing him the ball.

Gronk has 505 yards and 4 TDs through 12 games. Those are good not great starting TE numbers. They are horrible numbers compared to Gronk in his prime.

Going through this, and its possible I missed someone, I see only

Travis Kelce
Darren Waller
TJ Hockenson

As TEs with more receiving yards

So basically broken down Gronk is still a top 5 receiving TE in addition to being a monster blocker

I have to admit Gronk has looked a lot better than I expected. Thought he was completely finished after 2018.
Me too. He really sparked the Bucs on Sunday to start the comeback that fell a little short. He has been blocking like a beast too. I guess it really was Bill that was the issue. He seems re-energized just like Brady.

This year is looks to be a down year for TEs. Other than Kelce, no one has been especially special. Last year, there were two TEs with more than 1,000 yards and one more with more than 900. In 2018, there were three over 1,000 yards and two were over 1,300. This year, only Kelce will be likely the only TE with over 800 yards.

Gronk has had like two very good games. Before this weekend's game, Gronk was on pace for a 580 yard and 5-6 TD season. One game has thrusted him from what looked to be an average starting TE season to top four at least in yards.

There was a bit of whining about the Patriots trading Gronk away when he returned but thankfully that noise died out quickly. The Pats got a great return for a guy who wasn't coming back here imo. Also I didn't want him back even if he did want to return.

I have been critical of Bill for quite a few things the last year or two but trading Gronk is not one of them. He got a 4th round pick for a guy who was never going to play here.

I think it's the year off and possibly (not sure whether the rules actually changed) a rule change allowing him to use CBD. Maybe he was just shilling for a sponsor but he did say toward the end of his retirement that he would only come back if the NFL let him use it. It's possible all he needed was a break.

It is amazing to me that this legendary team cannot draft a decent wide receiver.
Watching Harry screw up in every way makes me sad. I hope he doesn't survive
training camp next year.

Same here. He looked like a guy whose knees had taken a beating and had a bad back. It took him a few games to get back into football shape, and he’s still not anywhere near what he once was, but he’s looked better in the past four games than he did throughout 2018 (with the exception of Week 1 that year).

Sure. I think the year off but I also think playing in Tampa with Tom away from Bill is the biggest reason.

did the dingleberries in the underwear brigade do their trade ins?

He still can't tackle on a kick return. :)

I'm still waiting for his movie and showbiz career.

Clooney better be sleeping with one eye open.
Clooney just basically plays different versions of Clooney in each movie he’s in.

Would be cool if the Pats had healthy capable tightends ...

Yeah, I can't agree with that. The downgrade from Bill to Bruce is immeasurable. Plus, it's hard to make the argument that what we saw in 2018 was an effort/motivation issue. That was very clearly physical.

Gronk is getting open because of all the pieces in Tampa that other teams focus on first...if you are a D coordinator, you try to stop Evans, Godward, and Brown first...just another Buccaneer thread

Perhaps on the surface but that is not what Gronk was saying last year. He said playing for Bill took a toll and how much he hated that wins were not celebrated at all just back to the grind. I do think Bill wore him out (like he has with many players) just as much as his body breaking down. Plus it was never about Bill for Gronk, it was always Brady. He said he would never play for another QB but Brady when Bill tried to trade him in 2018.

I agree in terms of the coaching between Bruce and Bill but also just as much of a difference in the environment as well. That also effects how a player performs as much as the coaching.

Well, some guys have been injured like George Kittle or Zach Ertz. Additionally, some guys as of now have played a game less than Gronk. In terms of yards per game Gronk is behind Noah Fant, Evan Engram or Hunter Henry as well.
