N'Keal Harry (lack of) Progress Report

Harry is a BUST.

He will never perform up to his draft position and post draft hype. Brady even stated that "Harry liked it dirty" meaning defenders are draped all over him, but you can still throw me the ball and roll the dice.

BleacherReport’s bio. Link won’t post for some reason.

So... you were saying?

The Pats knew this and also knew his strength is catching contested balls. Yet he's rarely given that opportunity. Who do we blame that on?

Just because he did that (out of necessity) in the PAC-12 doesn’t mean he can do it with any regularity against a pro DB. With that said, Brady tossed him a few contested balls for TDs last season, so you might be on to something.

Wow, even Hardman? Every single one of those receivers has outperformed Harry by two miles! They're balling while Harry is struggling just to look like he belongs in the NFL.

At least he has fought is way above past Patriots greats Chad Jackson, and Taylor Price.
"Fought" and kneal Harry should never be used in the same sentence.

Going back to 2001, out offense was centered around ball control using shifty receivers that didn't fit the mold for other teams (the big, fast, diva WR) so we could draft them late or walk them on, etc.
Somehow we either forgot how to find those guys or we just changed as a team. Harry doesn't fit in with any of our prior receivers.
He can't separate like Welker, Brown, Givens, Gafney, or Branch. He is Randy Moss without the speed and ability.
Having said that, there must be a place for him if BB thought highly enough to make him a top pick ahead of Samuel, Metcalf, etc. Those were the "easy" picks. He was the tough pick.

If we wanted a big bodied WR why not take DK or Deebo
Too fast. We don’t like speed. We like someone who can be quick when three cones are placed in an “L” shape. Here’s Creepy Caserio when he sees a good 3 cone...

Mecole Hardman is going to be a good one. 2019 Buccaneer's 6th Scott Miller is carving out a nice role for himself and is currently ranked 11th best WR.

This 2020 draft the Vikings 1st Justin Jefferson is tearing up the NFL and ranked # 1 WR at the moment. Steelers found Chase Claypool in the 2nd. The Bears 5th Darnell Mooney is turning heads. NFL DBs are raving about his speed and route running while NE drafts the Braxton Berrios of the league. 2020 NFL WIDE RECEIVER RATINGS | Football Outsiders

Just wow!:(

Any doubt about NE's inability to draft WR's should be over by now.

Belichick changed his own scouting book based on really sh-tty analysis of WRs and CBs by McDaniels and Caserio in 2003

Deebo Samuel ran a 4.48 at the combine, that's a 4.5 with a good polish on it... Harry ran a 4.5 only he's much bigger and stronger.

As for all the hemming and hawing over DK Metcalf and why the Patriots (and 32 other teams) passed on him for two rounds... it could be that he broke his neck six months before the NFL combine, he had nominal college production and as good as he has been with the best QB in the NFL throwing to him he is still a three route runner who effectively works as a field stretcher.

The Patriots passing attack has sucked for the two years Harry has been in the league, he missed 2/3rds of his rookie season with the only good QB he had the opportunity to work with, and that guy was a cranky old guy with one foot out the door. All the receivers they should have taken instead have played twice as many games as Harry, and have twice as many (or more) targets as Harry... and good targets.

Harry has Cam. Harry has terrible targets. Cam is why Harry is going to miss another game this week with a concussion.

Cam sucks... period. A weapon is only as good as the QB's ability to get him the ball.

He has a better chance catching balls in traffic against pro DBs versus him trying to gain separation against pro DBs. He's just not quick enough.

Still mystified why they picked this guy as high as they did and isn't using him to his strengths or expecting him to do things (like gain separation) he never did well in college.

It's like drafting a non athletic QB and then expecting him to run RPO in the pros:rofl:
