I get that for people who work for questionable entities like "CLNS Media" it is a race for clicks and ad money but I find it absurd to suggest someone run a wrong route based on broadcast copy. Like you are saying at least wait those 2-3 days until the A22 becomes available and you can clearly see what is happening.

This. How does Lazar know for a fact from this angle? For all he knows Harry broke in to shake the defender to go outside. There was a blitz and Newton had to deliver it quick. So to the naked eye on 1 angle with no knowledge of the playcall how is he sure it was a wrong route?

Could be that Newton having to deliver it quick with pressure effected that play more than the route run. Just like Lock hucking it up with pressure resulted in Jones' INT.

If Cam only had one practice, why did they play him? Why not play Stidham who, presumably, has been practicing with the team more than once in two weeks. Does Stidham suck that bad that they're willing to play a guy who's had one practice in three weeks?

a) Stidham sucks

b) The whole team, including Stidham, didn't do much practicing during those two weeks...

Most games are going to be streetfights.

Ive still never understood why a fans opinion whether it’s making an excuse, saying the sky is falling or whatever, means anything. Fans being right or wrong about a teams fortunes is relevant to nothing. Someone actually said something here like if we make excuses we can’t have the hard discussions about where this team stands. As if those discussions actually have an impact.
Yes Andy I know your position that we are all wasting our time posting on a message board as you post on a message board. Of course nothing we say has any bearing on what the team does but I enjoy watching the games and I enjoy watching the Patriots. I don't come on here in hopes that Bill will see my thoughts on the game and say "Well I'll be damed! Maybe Cam should stop getting his passes batted down!" and then credit 203Pat in his post game presser. I come on here to discuss what the team is doing or has done and what I think in my opinion needs to happen. I am under no delusion that any of what I say matters in the grand scheme of things but I enjoy discussing (and sometimes arguing) with my fellow Patriots fans anyways.

Stidham had one practice more than Newton in the same time and is several tiers below Cam. I don't get how this is even a question.

Belichick was *****ing about lack of practice in his presser. You play the guy that has more practice time in, no?

The Broncos seemed to have enough practice time...

I know some people are still staunch defenders of Harry and even I had a couple of slightly positive things to say about him a couple weeks back but I am getting to the point where this is what he is. A guy who just cannot do what we need. We need him to get open. We need him to make the right reads and he does neither. That second int Cam threw I think had a very solid chance of getting picked even if the ball wasn't batted because the defender was in Harry's pocket. He just seems to get almost zero separation which was the knock on him coming out of college. At least in college he was bigger and stronger than a lot of the DB's he was matched up against so he could win a lot of those contested balls. That doesn't look to be the case and since he doesn't seem like he is getting any better at route running I think this may be what we are stuck with.

The player with more talent, reps and overall practice time with the offense played. And, yes, the Broncos had enough practice time because they had two weeks to prepare for this game.

Your entire point is bad.

Bill just overthinks a lot of draft picks. Meanwhile, DK Metcalf, AJ Brown, and Mecole Hardman are off to great careers...

Why? The entire team didn't catch the plague.

Were you not following what was going on in the past couple of weeks? The team shut down their facilities, which means no practices...and they can't exactly go play at Foxborough High. They were stuck at home watching zoom sessions...

Starting Stidham also doesn't really help Cam get back into game speed after he hasn't played in 3 weeks.

I know the Chubb/Sony thing has been beaten to death but I just think of what our offense would look like if we ended up swapping out Chubb for Sony and Metcalf for Harry. Back to back drafts we would have come away with two elite playmakers and home run threats which is what this offense desperately needs. I know Metcalf was about as raw as they come coming out of the draft but at least he is a world class athlete. At least there is something there that makes him special right off the bat and then they can work with him on how to turn him into a complete receiver. Instead we ended up with Harry who had issues of his own coming out of college but could never dream of being the athlete Metcalf is.

So proud of our D. They gave the malodorous O a chance. Here's hoping for betterment and victory against the 49ers!

I hated how we were getting gashed by the run earlier in the game but they slammed the door when it mattered and that was nice to see.

The Broncos brought the house on the last play and that pressure forced the ball out quick enough for it to be incomplete. It is a tough throw on a good day and even more tough after being in quarantine for 10 days and then getting only 1 practice in after coming back as a QB.

I agree on the deep shot to Byrd. He had the time to throw and Byrd looked open by NFL standards. But that is why the vertical game is inherently more low percentage.
It was fourth and ten. It was actually incredibly risky to call a zero blitz there given the situation. Normally you just drop into coverage and make sure no guy blows past you. The reason they blitzed was to take away the run from Cam and force him into a quick decision. What is frustrating about the play is we picked up the blitz and Cam made the right read to Harry but threw a poor ball and Harry also slipped as well so it was horrific execution but man, that was the perfect defensive call for us to score on. BTW, Denver blitzed the most of any team yesterday specifically to take away our ability to run and force Cam to throw from the pocket. It worked like a charm. Expect to see a ton of that from the rest of our opponents this year.

I haven't heard anything about why Harris didn't play more, did he get hurt? This whole game plan looked like an unofficial forfeit.
Ya'll talk about the better talent we should have drafted - the problem is, they would be set up to fail here too. Only other systems actually cut it loose on offense. This system has always been for the smart overachievers - which we need 10 out of 11 on the field to be the top 1% type players. Right now we have new, young, unindoctrinated guys and its a mess. The ONLY chance we have in any given game is if Cam runs all day. I'll say it again - I'd rather see Stidham try to run the Patriot offense, than this hodgepodge college RPO crap with Cam.

The thing that worries me is our passing game just doesn't look right at all. There is really nothing outside of dump offs and a couple of schemed up plays that looks right consistently. Play action seems to be one of the few ways the passing game gets moving but all the underneath and intermediate stuff seems to be completely gone. Maybe Edelman is cooked or maybe just not having an NFL caliber TE is the reason that the old staples of our offense are gone but it just looks bad right now.
