Checking in on our 2019 Patriots receiving cast that was being held back by Tom Brady, who would only throw to "his guys."

Through Week 5:

N'Keal Harry - 18 receptions, 166 yards, 1 TD.

Jakobi Meyers - 1 reception, 7 yards, 0 TDs (career is likely over within a year, two tops, due to lack of ability)

Mohamed Sanu - 1 reception, 9 yards, 0 TDs (career is likely over now due to lack of ability/age)

Philip Dorsett - Injured reserve...strong suspicion is is also a depth issue since he likely would not get much playing time (career is likely over within a year, two tops, due to lack of ability/age)

Ryan Izzo - 3 receptions, 44 yards (career likely over within two years, considering his lack of ability)

Matt LaCosse - Opted out of 2020 season, though he was likely to be cut with the Patriots drafting two TEs. (career likely over within a year due to lack of ability)
Nice job pulling all those stats. I am sure it will get the hand wave from those that want believe that narrative no matter what.

The only thing gross in those stats is the TEs. You left out JE and Harry is on pace for 72 catches. Those two are the starters.

I didn't pull those. Ice did. He specifically said he was pulling the stats of the players that Brady was accused of not throwing to last year which is probably why JE was left off.

It's not really an accusation when he is on record admitting he wouldn't throw to players he didn't trust.

The problem of course is his teammates saw him make a mental error that pretty much singlehandedly lost a football game and Arians flat out lied about it again and again to protect Tom even though anyone with a brain and eyes knows otherwise. Brady still hasn't admitted his mistake either. What message does that send to this teammates? The next time Brady chews them out what will go through their minds? The next time he throws a pick 6 will one of his teammates chew him out?

Could be a problem for Tommy in that locker room.

Good...Arians is learning how to shut up and handle things internally. Much rather see him lying and downplaying than his typical word vomit session.

The team knows Tom made a mistake, and based on the typical Brady, he has probably talked to his teammates about it; no one has ever accused Tom of not being respectEd or self-critical; how he acts on game day is a different mentality.

The team has also undoubtedly seen the film which shows the running back is locked onto by a linebacker with maybe a 50/50 shot at a first down on a dump off.

Brady’s mistake sunk any chances of a win but it‘s not like the chances were overwhelming to begin with.

That's the one area Belichick has never been wrong. "We're on to <whoever>". Solves a lot of problems that wouldn't have a chance to start.

Yeah, I should have gone back and replied to his original post. This wasn't aimed at you.

MMQB predicted the Bucs to win the superbowl. Apart from the rude comments that some here can't help but post when their own hypocrisy is exposed, there was much optimism in this thread from the beginning, as they have stumbled a bit and exposed some of their weaknesses, many of those same posters who initially had extremely high expectations for this team have begun backpedaling to try and protect Brady's reputation. Suddenly, that coach who was an offensive genius is an idiot who shouldn't be coaching a pop warner team. The ref's have it in for Brady, and Gronk is an anchor bringing him down.

I still think the Bucs have a very good chance of making the playoffs, think the 9.5 wins is probably a pretty accurate estimate and think it is a shame that Brady left the Pats.

It would be awesome if Brady took the Bucs to the Superbowl which is coincidentally in Tampa this year.

I loved watching every single Joe Montana chiefs game back in the day. Just to see if he could will them to victory.

Considering the fact that the 2020 offense is rushing about 50 miles per game........this really doesn't mean what it appears you think it means.

It wasn't a mental error on his part- he's used to getting that info over the headset from McDaniels. BB has always believed that the less the QB has to process, the less responsbilities he has, the better. I think it's more accurate to term it as something that just fell through the cracks.

He gets no such luxury in Tampa Bay.. their asshat OC, Leftwich doesn't even sit down with him after every drive to go over what they could do better and what plays to call on the next drive to counter what the defense is giving them.

Leftwich had an average career as a NFL QB.

For sure. I mentioned when it happened it was a coaching blunder just as much as anything Brady did. Brady benefited from having the coaching he did here, he isn’t from having the coaching he does there.

It’s tough though when you rip your teammates and then they see that happen.

Brady threw to Meyers plenty in 2019 as he made 26 catches on 41 targets. Goes to show how weak his options were but it should dispel the nonsense that he refused to throw to him. And yes - when you run a read and react offense you need to have trust that the receivers will be exactly where they are supposed to be as you are often throwing to a spot before a cut has even been made. That this would be considered some sort of indictment on Brady is beyond bizarre.

Amazing what happens when you have a good Oline ...

Brady did say on the record he would not throw to guys he didn't trust so it's not a fabricated claim.

No QB should throw to guys he does not trust. That is just smart football. Bill has preached that for years - that guys have to earn the trust of their teammates to be on the field. Yet for some reason despite throwing 24 TDs to 8 picks and over 4000 yards with a cast of garbage, Brady has been berated for it.

Not for the first 3 weeks - he had Gordon and Brown and they played no teams that finished over .500. If you count week 4 onward Brady had 17 TD and 8 picks, 3100 yards passing, a sub 60 completion pct and a passer rating of 82.0. Water under the bridge now.

The way I see it when there's smoke there is usually fire. If Brady had that reputation of not throwing to guys by his choice there's probably a good reason he had that rep. Agreed that they should earn trust but it's good to give guys a chance too.

How about that? His numbers were really good when he had decent receivers.

If he trusted his new receivers and worked with them then who knows, maybe they would become at least "decent".

To be fair I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that quote, it sounded like what he said was confirming he was basically on the same page with Belichick. But he does have that rep though and it wasn't helpful to the team. JMO.
