Cam Newton Tests Positive; Out for KC game

With 34 million confirmed cases worldwide -- clearly an underestimate -- there have only been handful of confirmed reinfection cases. As one expert said: “It’s possible to get re-infected, but its is a very, very rare event and in general that most people develop a fairly robust immune response after being infected with COVID the first time around.”

There is a lot of alarmism about COVID, much of it sadly political.
A friend of mine had a confirmed case back in April, recovered fine, then took an antibody test recently that showed no antibodies. So he could now catch it again.

I'm sorry you can't grasp the concept of forced isolation being bad.
I agree but the NBA did it successfully. Baseball is doing it for the playoffs. I am not sure there is another choice if they want to finish the season.

I have no idea about antibody tests other than hearing how they can be quite inaccurate. He might want to take that test again.

Both the NBA and MLB did it for shorter periods of time, did it with smaller rosters, and did it with far fewer injury concerns and transactional needs.

all this talk about people getting infected twice. theres only like 2 confirmed cases in the whole world. and one was asymptomatic

Again, the NFL has a ton of personnel compared to the NBA. Very different.

I know it is a bigger undertaking but not sure they have a choice. This season is toast if they don't create some sort of bubble.

The location would need 5-6 stadiums within driving distance of one another that could each handle 2 games on the same day, even college stadiums could work. Together with hotels that are big enough and full service enough to handle 3500 people. regardless it would never be a true bubble.

Selfish people do selfish things.
You mean like NFL plutocrat owners trying to play a season in the middle of a pandemic, to line their pockets even more?

that puts players between a rock and a hard place. They have to travel between home and team facilities. They can drive themselves and potentially get exposed when they have to gas their vehicle. Or they can hire a drive or call Uber and be exposed to whatever their driver is carrying.

btw your blame the victim shtick is lame. It’s so passé most trolls have given up on it. Can’t you do better at finding some way to tear down the Patriots out of jealousy that your team is still worse?

A portion of the NBA...not the whole NBA and I'll be interested if there is still no vaccine next season if the entire league both agrees and can do it the same way? Or how about if the immune-response to the vaccine is short term (6 mo or less) or ineffective?

Quarantining the entire NFL (how many thousands of people is that?) for 6-8 months without outside contact? Sure, the players might be financially able to navigate livable Maslow's Hierarchical norms, but what about the 2d assistant trainer (the kid that just stretches out the players) - he or she is probably making what $30K a year if that?

Isn't that starting to toe the line of indentured servitude just for entertainment and no other societal outcome?

Hoyer sucks, we stand no chance starting him but Bill probably trusts him more than stidham because Hoyer knows the playbook better and he doesn't feel comfortable giving stidham his first start at KC
Stidham also just sucks ass.

How many football fields are in.... Hawaii? Just asking.

With requisite facilities like locker rooms, meeting rooms, etc - like three. Just grass fields with old fashioned H-style uprights at each end? Probably a hundred or more.

What is irresponsible is shutting down the entire country, and destroying the economy for a disease that hurts the elderly and is less dangerous to the under 40 population then the flu is. Protect the elderly and let the rest of the country get back to normal. Oh, California just passed Sweden in deaths per million from covid. How is that lockdown with masks working????
Safety and the economy have to BOTH be part of the solution, 1a & 1b. Nothing will ever work until masks are absolutely mandated, but by itself that's not shutting anything down. At the same time, no area or sector of the economy should be "shut down", but safety rules must be applied that are actually followed and enforced. Some industries like bars and restaurants are at an inherent disadvantage, especially smaller ones that don't have an outdoor option. Not sure what to do for them, but we can't have crowds congregating in tight spaces - period.

Not necessarily. A lot of our immune response does not require detectable circulating antibodies. There is cellular immunity that can be even more potent. There is a lot of evidence of this for SARS being very durable - lasting years.

It almost seems as if the NFL never had a plan.
It seems their only plan is to plow through any obstacles in their path, regardless of the damage they inflict on themselves and others.

The flip side of this is to rely on 3200+ mostly well paid mostly young adults to follow "community guidelines" to protect a business with $15B revenue per year. What could possibly go wrong?

Agree with your last paragraph. Not so sure about the rest. Yea, Jones is a billionaire but he’s losing $77 million EVERY single home game they play. How is that lining pockets? Not sure about TV deals and whatnot, but that kind of money is a monumental loss. That response is for you, n6249c. My posts have been all ****ed up. Not sure I like this new site.

Ironic. Patriots QB Cam Newton tested positive for coronavirus.

Chiefs practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu tested positive for coronavirus.

Ta’amu has been playing the role of Newton in practice this week.

i think he got carried away and went too far in trying to be like Cam.

If you have to host a ton of families and staff in a bubble, just saying, Hawaii might not be a bad option...
