Cam Newton Tests Positive; Out for KC game

We do know he is patient zero.

EVERY player is tested EVERY day.

No other player has tested positive.

That means he is the first.

I mean, this is kinda common sense...

He went out somewhere or he allowed someone into his home. There is no other way to get it.

If I get it, it’ll be because I went out, or because someone brought it into my home.

Or a cook brought it into the facility. Or a janitor, or a coach, or a member of the media, or another player who hasn't tested positive yet, or or or.

All we do know is that Cam tested positive. That's it. I'd wait for the facts to come out before jumping to conclusions.

I think it's safe to say, if 1 more player or coach tests positive, there will be no game this week. Too risky.
It’s already too risky to play the game this week. Say someone got it from Newton yesterday. That person may not test positive until Wednesday.

Assuming he doesn't end up getting sick at all, at least it means we won't have to worry about him getting it again for the rest of the season.

I don't think doctors know that once you get it, if it means you're protected. It could be more like the flu where you just get it over and over again (with the additional chance of...dying).

Agree. They will not play this week.

So we are in the middle of a pandemic, these guys are flying all over the country, and they're grabbing spitting sweating bleeding on each other and covid is starting to popup? Shocking.

I may be in the minority but I said since day one having the season is completely irresponsible.

I thought Brady was the one who was pals with Trump?

Season will probably be another 1982 situation if it finishes

NFL days game rescheduled to Monday or Tuesday

Any Chances Krafty Bob paid a visit to a local happy ending parlor and brought the corona into the Pats facility?

having the game 2 or 3 days after there were positive tests from both teams would be moronic but i'm sure they will (they stated as much in the press release they fired out) , a Cam-less Pats team ain't winning that game and the nfl knows it, they want this chefs team to flirt with an undefeated season

The NBA has a bubble. The NFL doesn't. There's no rule telling players to act like there is one.

Take it up with the league if you have a problem with that.
If it does spread further, indeed the league will be in the cross hairs.
If I'm the Chiefs no way I'd want to go on the field and be exposed like that.
In our TEN thread we were being told that the players would honor the union contract and play, no matter the risk.
11-12 player teams vs. 53 man teams with way more personnel involved. There’s a reason why they didn’t do the bubble.
And there's a reason why it'll spread quicker, that many people interacting with family and friends, 3-7 day period for incubation where tests won't detect the virus.

The problem for the NFL is there is very little margin for error, a major team with the virus could bring down the whole season if other teams decide they won't play.
I’d bet Bill goes with Hoyer. Hoyer is a vet with starting experience and can slide right into this position. He is not gonna throw Stidham in on a few days notice against a team like the Chiefs.
I think we should be hoping for a cancellation rather than starting Hoyer on Tuesday.

For instance we don't know if whatever week we do replay the game that Mahomes won't turn up positive and Cam would be recovered by then.
Hopefully it’s just those two positive tests, and nothing more. A Tuesday game would be interesting.
We're down our best player. KC is not. Just sayin'...

The chance of contracting COVID from a surface (gas pump, atm, etc) is extremely small.

CDC said that months ago.

He got it because he went out somewhere. Without a doubt.

Hey Doc, I don't want to question your bona fides as an epidemiologist, but it spreads by droplet and aerosol transmission. There's no "without a doubt." While your stomach acid will (typically) dissolve it in terms of not getting it by eating/drinking, you can walk down the hall of a building that somebody shed virus into and inhale it - the 6 foot rule is better than nothing (it's 10 feet some other places,) but the possibility goes by how long that nastiness hangs around, not by these proclamations of certainty from folks in the peanut gallery.

We're swimming in a petri dish. Wear a mask, and if the guy you're swimming next to wears a mask, you've got the transmission chances reduced something like 95%. But get away from him sooner than later anyway. Because, 5%.

An NBA bubble might or might not work in the NFL, but screaming that Cam is "selfish" is just victim-blaming at its worst. What we can control is likelihoods, not certainties. From all reports, Cam will be "punished" plenty even by the "mild" version of this crud. I personally pray I don't get it. People seem to get pretty wiped out, even the ones with the "good" outcomes.

I agree with those who say this season doesn't go the distance. We get to see Stidham, for those who want some kind of "wahhhh no fair" do-over. Consider this season as the dancing bear of NFL seasons; the point isn't whether the bear dances well. The wonder is that it dances at all. Dont take it too seriously, and pray for everybody who's in contact with this stuff.

Last point without invoking the "p" word - this should be allowed:

In March/April we shut down everything, after the outbreaks going from a handful of infections. Now we're going into the fall/winter months going from a base of 7 million.

If you're like me, you've maybe gotten a little lazy w/coronavirus vigilance... I want all you guys to make it, so think about how to be careful (i.e., masking, social distancing, handwashing, whatever you can do to reduce likelihood of catching it.)

Winter is coming, as the saying goes. It's looking a little... I dunno, Stark.
