PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 4

Given the lack of any OTAs and a sped up ramp up period in the last two weeks I'd expect more minor issues popping up. Hopefully we can get through it without any serious injuries.

*Sniffs twice*

Smells like 8-8.

Was hoping Stidham would have a great camp and secure the number 1. Disappointing to see the INTs and that he’s struggling.

Can we put Stidham in the practice squad?

For now, it looks like that Hoyer is beating him for the backup role.

For this season you can put anyone onto the practice squad.

Interesting observation by Chatham. Wonder if through the season as he grows more comfortable and experienced with the offense the ball will come out quicker. I'd guess that is something McDaniels and BB will keep harping on.

If the receivers consistently have an extra quarter- or half-second to get open, that changes a lot, particularly when Edelman is no longer double-teamed because of the threat of Cam tucking and running.

With Brady, it's either coming out very quickly or he's throwing it away or maybe checking down.
But note that in 2019 although Brady was quicker to throw than average, he was by no means the fastest:

Yea Idk it could be Cam is holding on to the ball too long. It could be different after watching Brady for 20 years?

I'm just trying to get different opinions, esp this year.

I do know coaches are absolutely telling players they want to see this or that. Obviously no coach is telling their QB to throw INTs. They do want to see what they have in guys. Who's improved and taken a step.

I'd just take everything with a grain of salt. Try to read between the lines and see what someone is saying.

Also some of these drills & practice just don't work out for everyone. Like a QB is reading 1 matchup and has to go that way no matter what. Or a DB that would never be in press man with no S help. Some of these drills are just tough for certain players.

That said I think it's safe to say Cam won the week so far though.

I absolutely hate the "QB X threw 2 interceptions in practice" crap. This is when they should be throwing interceptions, early in camp. They are working on the timing with the receivers, adjusting to this he speed of the defense, reading the coverage, testing what works and what doesn't. I think it was Aaron Rodgers who said a year or two ago that he throws interceptions in practice because he is experimenting with timing and throw angles so he can bring that to the game.

Derek Rivers has pics of Bill like Jake Bequette did.

The difference is that Rivers has shown flashes when he's healthy and has the physical and athletic talent to be a really good pass rusher ... if he can be on the field.

Just really unfortunate he hasn't been able to. Fingers crossed.

Probably not. Cam has always held onto the ball for too long and got away with it because of his legs. The question then becomes how much juice is left in those legs. When I looked at his tape in 2018 via Game Pass, I saw he was still dangerous on designed runs which, by definition, have an extra blocker. It was when the play broke down that he didn’t look like the Cam of old anymore. If his legs are indeed done, this will be an ugly offense with a LOT of sacks, and I highly doubt Cam would last the year before getting injured again.

Stidham and Rodgers are at very different places in their career. Established veteran superstar vs young guy trying to win a job. I highly doubt Stidham is using these 7 on 7’s to experiment with throw angles and timing. He’s trying to beat out Cam and Hoyer for the starting job and he doesn’t have the benefit of pre season games to make an impression. How these guys play in camp will determine who starts week 1.

So far, not looking like Stidham is handling competitive pressure well. It's still early, about 2 weeks of padded practices left (Sep 6th).

When are we, as a group, allowed to slot Harris as a Bust?

Asking for a friend

He got the **** beat out of him in 2018 at Auburn. I think he’s ruined.

So in your opinion all that short and intermediate stuff he got to execute under Norv Turner in 2018 and supposedly looked pretty good at until his shoulder got shredded was this all just smokes and mirrors (i.e. McCaffrey & Olson) ?

You got me curious now.

Isn’t it a bit early in the day for a straw man argument?

I don't know what your issue is. I ask you for your opinion on something and you somehow turn this around into some kind of personal attack. Chill out for a change..
