10 Patriots camp observations: Jarrett Stidham throws 3 INTs, Cam Newton flashes live arm

I think it's a terrible sign that Stidham threw 3 interceptions. The kid also threw a INT for td return among his 3 NFL throws last year. He may be one of those guys who looks good but is an interception machine. Curran wrote a separate article with a ton of excuses for Stidham. I think Cam still starts, he seems very healthy. Also Uche, Asiasi, Dugger, Harris have been impressing people.

.

I would lean toward Cam starting as well, but it's only the 2nd day and I wouldn't be too worried about the Stidham intercepts yet. Let give him some time.

Kind of concerning about Harry not being able to get any separation. Granted, this secondary is the best in the NFL and should make Sundays a lot easier.

I just have a bad feeling he's a massive bust. Yeah it's only day 2, but I expected him to come out of the gates showing he's the #1 guy.

It is not that surprising to me to see Byrd ahead. He is the only vet player on our roster who can threaten the deep third. Most of the others have a much more overlapping skillset which makes sense because this is where our offense usually attacks. But unless Byrd vomits over himself in the next 2-3 weeks I find it difficult to keep him off the roster in the Dorsett role. You will want a burner on your team to keep teams honest and move coverages.

Who else has the gear to threaten deep ? I think there might even be an argument that they will need to sign one more burner as depth and insurance in case Byrd gets injured.

Fair enough with regard to Byrd. As far as his competition goes, if Jeff Thomas doesn't show up, it's only Devin Ross. Jeff Howe says Ross is doing well so far, but he's a long shot to make it out of camp.

I think the admins might wanna merge in the Day 2 discussion we already had going in the Day 1 thread. @Ross12 @Ian et al ?

Or maybe just merge this into the other and turn it into a weekly thread ? It doesn't seem like there is a crazy amount of discussion that would require separate ones for each day anyhow ?
Request DENIED.

But early reports are really encouraging that this timeline was overly pessimistic. If he has absorbed the nuances of the offense as well then he actually has a good shot of making the 53. Jeff Thomas better show up soon on the field and blow everyone away because if Gunner shows consistency this "battle" is over before it started.

I dont think thats how battles work in Foxb. Maybe for the media. Talking about battles for the “last“ roster spot at certain positions makes no sense, on 3rd day of TC even less so.

You obviously have a thing for Jeff there ;) but i dont know why you would see there is a “battle“ specifically between them? There are 53 spots and all compete for them. Positional roster spots vary from year to year. One year starting 53 roster can have 4 WRs and next year 8 etc etc.
Even BB doesn't know now how many WRs he will carry or even how many QBs he will carry. So everyone is in battles across the board. WR #5,6 - if there is such a thing - are in battles not only with entire offence but also with DT #4 DE#4,5 LB #5,6 etc etc.

Id be very surprised if fully healthy and functioning Gunner would not be on the 53 roster . he is teams best returner by far with enough experience that you can trust him & he's of course one of the top gunners as well :)
And imlo he is closest option to replicate some of the Jules as far as i could see..

Number 1 guy?? I'll settle for a #3 at this point. Gotta take what we can get with Harry.;)

Also if the Gunner and Meyers take the next step we might as well just say Harry who??

NKeal Harry is slow. McDaniels is terrible at drafting. Harry keeps posting videos but he still can't defeat a jam at the line of scrimmage or route run to get open.

Why are you citing McDaniels when talking about Harry? In New England, Bill Belichick does the drafting.

Ahh,, The SFBs runs his mouth again. BB does the drafting, but his OC and his Scouts have a lot of say as to who goes into the pick.

Umm. Harry is a 4.53. That's faster than Edelman and the same as some guy named Randall Cobb..

But I guess it makes you feel good about yourself to rattle off trash about a player who was injured for part of last year.

BTW, how do you know that Harry hasn't improved his routes? You certainly aren't there in TC watching him. Same with being able to get off jams. Again. You aren't in TC. So how do you know?

Not to mention, it was well known that Harry was more raw than other WRs coming out. With a guy like Troy Brown, whom it's been well reported he spent a lot of time with, and now with the new WR coach, don't you think that might be something they worked on?

40 times are meaningless. Look at his own vids he posts working out with Cam or Stidham. Still not quick. Also his name hasn't come up in practice if you're assuming he made a magical leap in improvement.

.

Harry’s problem is he is not sudden. He can’t separate from a fire hydrant.

wr Ross is making plays. I wish we could see how he performs in preseason games.

Yes. Because we all know that the reporters tell us EVERYTHING about EVERYONE during practices. BTW. You know what you haven't seen the reporters say? That Harry looks lost out there. That Harry isn't making the catches he needs to make. That Harry is dropping the easy ones.

Seriously. You clearly don't know what you are talking about. QUICKNESS has nothing to do with speed. Quickness is a reference to agility. You were claiming he was slow. Now you're claiming he's not quick. You're using the terms interchangeably when they aren't.

OH. I also suggest you go and refresh yourself with Harry's draft profile. Then you won't sound so ridiculous with your comments..

Doesn't sound as if Meyers is taking the magical/mythical 2nd-year Great Leap Forward either...When one averages just 11.5 yards per catch in college this is what is to be feared...

As long as you're staying optimistic :)
