Hightower Opts Out

ruh roh, Pats players dropping like flies... Cannon, Vitale, Hightower is three starters already in a sesason that was already going to be a "bridge" year. not saying its a poor decision, he has every right.

I think this NFL season is going to be a complete s - show. I simply do not see how the league can claim to be looking out for player's best interests while also allowing them to drool all over eachother all season in practice and games...

I am opting out of this forum ;)

There won’t be a season so no impact to the Patriots this year.

Season is over before it started...

Good for him. Expecting your first child in all this crap isn’t fun. We had our first April 9th about a week before the peak of this thing in Connecticut and it wasn’t easy.

His son was born on July 16th but the idea of bringing home the virus to his family must have weighed heavily.

Now he can change diapers at 3AM without worrying about being awake during meetings.

I can not say I blame him. Big concern is also for 2021. After taking a year off from football, will Hightower and Cannon be ready to go in 2021? I say its very unlikely.

That means have to find long term replacement for both. Adds to the rebuild challenge.

In this awful year Pats have lost Brady, Gronk, Cannon and Hightower without sure fire replacements for any.

Go get Clowney...we have enough cap space now

Just saying "there's not gonna be a season!" and nothing else is silly. There might not be, but claiming as much right now seems pointless, and not conducive to a discussion.

I just can’t see it happening not without a bubble. I saw what happened to MLB who also has no bubble and it’s a mess. When the flood of opt outs happen and when the Covid IR fills up there might not even be a viable product out there and the “champion” will be tainted for obvious reasons.

Very pessimistic about the chances.

It's ok to grieve.

this news sucks.

Bolden has opted out. This season is turning into a bit of a farce. No TC, no preseason, multiple starters opting out. Delegitimizes the whole season.

I don't blame Hightower.

There's only so much football left in that body. Why waste it on this season in this situation?

Honestly, screw football. He is financially secure and has recently become a father. There is zero reason to play football during a global pandemic. Good for him and his family.

I mean other than the Chiefs and their doctor lineman, we’re the only team to have these so far.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Russell Wilson is next. He has every reason to opt out.
