I think SB 46 was by far the worst of Brady's 9 Super Bowls. The intentional grounding in the end zone and INT to Gronk were killers. Also, the throw to Welker wasn't the gretest, but he dropped a catchable ball. That is indisputable.

Anyone watch this with a group of people during that game? I was with a bunch of non Pats fans and they gasped after that drop.

While Welker was an excellent WR, his catch radius was atrocious. This is something Tom won't have to deal with in TB.

People really underestimate Brady's accuracy over the years as throwing to small WR's is extremely difficult.

Sorry, Clark's was not a harder catch.

Welker was running full steam looking for an inside throw but had to pirouette completely around in midair and stretch as much as he could just to get his hands on it.

BAD PASS. I can't help you if you and the rest of the Simpsons don't get it.

Had Brady thrown inside, Welker would've had a "hospital ball" on the menu as there was a S waiting for him. It was the right pass. Welker just has a horrible catch radius and needs almost every pass to hit him in the numbers and in stride.

You know I loved Wes when he was here BUT Edelman is so clutch, so gritty, so unbelievably tough. I know everyone likes to talk about Gronk the last 10 years but the best and most important upgrade to Pats 2.0 was Edelman replacing Wes.

Edelman > Welker, but Edelman had his share of drops in SB 51...

He was plenty tall enough to catch that ball. Brady missed some passes but he threw away a lot more too. Together it added up to lousy stats that give the wrong impression on paper.

I've never seen an intentional grounding called in a situation like that and not where a QB heaves it down the middle of the field. I don't see conclusive evidence that a receiver didn't run a wrong route causing the ball to land that far away from any receivers. A throwaway to avoid a sack would have been off to the side not a throw like that. Also weird to have the actual flag thrown way after the play ended.

We can agree to disagree. If you look at the video I posted, the closest Patriot was 25 yards away. And referees don't care about whether the receiver ran the wrong route or slipped on the turf. They look to see if there was an eligible receiver that realistically could have caught the ball, which in this case there wasn't.

Yep...Another near-INT that is Never discussed is the one during that same drive, after the helmet miracle, 51 seconds left, 2nd/11 at Pats 25 that Stomper Meriweather should've caught, over his shoulder...I blame him for not catching that one more than I blame A$ante for his...

And another one also Never discussed is Rodney's near-INT right at the 2-minute warning ... Those azzholes never, not once, showed a replay of it...Either it bounced off his hands or it was tipped by Plaxico Burress...

Pats D flat out choked! Eli gifted them 3-4 INT’s in the first half alone which the Pats could only capitalize on one of them.

But I have seen plenty of similar throws like that which were NOT called grounding. The fact that it was in the Super Bowl is even more insane, that should be a “let them play” situation.

Fun fact, the prop bet of “first score of the game will be a safety” paid off at 50-1, so congrats to all the winners there. Also, that same bet paid off two years later when the snap went over Peyton’s head and into the end zone en route to a blowout over the Broncos (lol). Since then, the odds for that bet have gone way down, they are like 10-1 now.

You are correct that they typically let players play in the SB. I think they probably would have let that one go if a receiver had gotten within 10 yards or so of where the ball landed. Thankfully SB 46 is probably the one super bowl i don't care as much about. SB 42 and 52 losses were more devastating IMO.

I had a feeling I may have been wrong about it being special teams.

However, I do remember Woods clearly possessing it and then Bradshaw going for the steal on the ground. Refs were very late and blew that.

Yeah at least one was OOB when he landed, so even if he had caught it it might not have counted ... the Miami Stomper had an easier play on his ball, and instead that scumbag practically handed it to a Vagiants receiver who fortunately (at that moment) let it fall to the ground with help from Ellis Hobbs (talk about another guy who gets a bad rap for this loss)...Betcha Eric Weddle makes the INT...

The offensive OLine was indeed Crap...Mankin$ deserves More blame than some give him...But the most consistently terrible part of it was the Right side after Stephen Neal had to leave...and Skippy hardly ever gave OxyKacxur any help, especially during the more-critical downs (e.g.: 3rd/7 at the Vagiants 25 during the 3rd quarter)...

Neal leaving that game is when they unleashed the wolves. Any kind of continuity was lost after that as they were trying to compensate the rest of the way. Neal was so underrated back in the day. One of my all time favorites from any decade.
