Chung signed to 2 year extension. I’m confused.

SMH.. I have loved Chung since his return from the Eagles, but this is just silly. He lost so much last season and was outclassed most of the time when he wasn't injured.
I'd say he fell off in the second half of the year - and by fall off, he fell off a cliff

Please Football Gods: Prove Me Wrong on Thuney take

Yeah, makes me think they have given up on extending Thuney and this was one of their backup options.

The dead money on Chung goes up and that's not something they wanted to do if they could've avoided it.

I think this could also be a signal that a Dugger signing is imminent.

Please post how much extra money Chung is getting.

It doesn't matter how much extra money he's getting.. The fact is that he lost more than step last year and was more a liability than a help. Granted, he was still better than Brooks, but not by much..

What does this mean for dugger? Special teams player? He will be watching from the bench with joejuan.

pretty much. Belichick has swung and missed in the draft since 2013. Passed up on more all pro offensive talent than you can imagine. Thank god Brady and Gronk were around

By year THREE?!? The 37th overall pick of the Entire Draft?!? Sorry not sorry, but that's plug 'n play territory...Almost as absurd as red-shirting a healthy rookie RB while your 2nd-year starter struggles to take anything more than what's already given...

Belichick walks on water here. He gets defended every move he makes. Don’t worry when he retires, all his minions will go with him

1) the money is the same
2) we should keep him on the team since he is better than Brooks in the depth chart.
3) the team helped the cap buy moving money into the future

So, what should the team have done? There seemed to be no harm here, and a gain.

Do you expect a team to release the starter at the position of their 37th pick? After trading s3 away from a defense that plays 3 safeties half the time?

I'm not sure what it is you're asking...?

You are acting as if Chung being here make Duggar a guy without a role.
Chung's presence doesn't make Dugger a guy without a role...Dugger's mere presence does, all by itself...

Nobody should be shocked if Dugger doesn't see much of the field this season, especially coming from a small school. The Chung signing shouldn't freak anybody out. Chung is clearly on the decline and Dugger should beat him out by next year's training camp. However, I won't hold my breath on that one. If it doesn't happen by year 3, there could be a real problem.

Huh?[/QUOTE

I have no answer for this either man....I’m probably more confused than you.....Chung is really on way out....Dmac and Bro too....and we are giving them decent contracts.....no idea what idea is

Can we say, at this point, that Patrick Chung is one of, if not the, most underrated Patriots of the Belichick era?
There are many contenders for that title.

I wonder what the cap implications - positive or negative - would've been for Chung retiring instead of re-signing...
More interesting, what would they be if Chung retires after the current season? I’m assuming that this move creates some dead money?

What does Chung freeing up money have to do with his playing time?

The dead money after this year created by the move is equal to the money saved on the cap this year. In other words if Chung is cut next year they simply borrowed 2021 cap money.
