ANNOUNCEMENT New Forum - Suggestion Box

I believe I do. Sometimes I’m on the site ready to rate or write another response and it will make me log in again.

That happens to me when my wifi drops or switches to cellular or vice versa.

I've been working on building out the new template for the forum changeover when I upgrade the software. I've been messing with the coding for a few weeks now and the customization is finally coming along well, with a pretty nice layout compared to the current version.

Needless to say, I wanted to start a thread for people to drop some suggestions/requests in the hopes that I can try and get everything (or at least as much as possible) included when it's completed. So any thoughts, suggestions, etc. feel free to add them and I'll definitely see what I can do to make it happen

More technical comments:

Move the "Show ignored content" HTML element (i.e. '.pageNavLinkGroup .linkGroup a.DisplayIgnoredContent' ) from the bottom of the template to the top. So you see it and are reminded of it immediately without having to traverse the whole page and then go back up again.

Yes, there are shortcuts to move top and down more efficiently but it is a little design change with a big impact. Similarly, on board level this means that you are more likely to click it and see all threads that are being hidden which might reduce the number of times people don't see threads appearing because they have been created by someone on their ignore list.

Since we are already on that topic -- and this will most probably be beyond your scope -- see if there is a way to customise the IgnoreThreads plugin to allow for Threads to still show up with only messages of posters (even if they are the creator) hidden.

Non technical comments:

I'd love if you could institute a policy where the typical weekly threads (e.g. Pre Game, GDT, Post Game, Other games) are created by an admin so that everyone can see them. The chance someone has an admin on ignore must be substantially lower than any other random user. Hell, those threads could be created almost automatically by a script working off a scheduled job directly on the DB.

In more experimental suggestions I'd love to see an additional "serious" post game thread (or general discussion threads) in addition to the usual hot takey mess we get to encourage actual conversations instead of it being 70% fluff consisting of memes and people baiting each other. There are some very insightful people on this board and good conversations to be had. But many times those get derailed by low effort posts.

I am not saying emotional venting has no place here. Far from it. I am simply wondering if we could create environments for both types of posts and ease the tension that occurs when everything is pushed into the same thread.

And then there is also the elephant in the room which is how to handle all the Brady/Bucs related stuff once the season gets going. Given the interest many have it would almost make sense to have a separate game thread for Bucs games outside the "other games" maybe ? Otherwise I have a feeling that any talk about non Bucs games would become almost suffocated in there.

Just some things off the top of my head..

Need more emojis :haha:

I was actually only here to suggest the opposite. I’d love to see 2/3 of the current choices X’ed out.

Yes, Ian I would suggest a “more” button alongside the most frequently used emojis beneath every post that will open up a box that would reveal a whole bunch of additional emojis...we could have like 30 of them without the confusion

Good morning!
Definitely do NOT include a political forum is my only suggestion!;)

Not long ago the site had a feature with occasional porn site popups. Can we get that back? Asking for a friend. Thank you

Some possibilites, since you asked. I'll use your name as the neutral example name...
  • Allow for a search to be done based upon the number of posts in a thread. vBulletin has this. If you click on the square where the number of posts in a particular thread is, it brings up a box that lists all the people who've posted in the tread, and the number of posts they've made. That would let someone go straight to those posts. So if, for example, I was posting with Ian, but went to bed, I could just pull up his posts from the thread, and pick up from the last one I'd read.
Can you PM me a link so I can look at an example of this?

Make seperate sections in the new forum, one for the game or the team, for the draft, one for whatever...other sports, political, world news, for OT far away from the common football section, somewhere hidden where nobody cares, just split it.
I am going to add/reorganize some things, so that's a good suggestion and already on my radar

Perhaps a section accessible through the quick link menu (that’s what I call the tool you have on the top left corner) where less-adept users such as yours truly can obtain some handy “how to” guidance for things like posting images and gifs, properly attributing articles, PM’ing, ignoring, etc.
I have that in the thread at the top, but you're right, I'll create and dedicate a separate area that's a little better organized and lists out a lot of that stuff

Agreed with the show ignored content link above. Also might be tricky to implement but it would be nice to not show likes/dislikes/agrees or other reactions from anyone on your ignored list or not have a topic bump from the ignored.

Also I miss the disagree red X :)

On occasion I accidentally hit the reply button and the text is now in all threads I visit. Usually I backspace to get rid of it and if there is a lot...it’s kind of a pain. I suppose it could help those typing up long posts as well if they want to remove it.

How about a “Clear” button that removes that text in that field ?

I thought the X was too cowardly unless you stated why you disagree. Too many just hit the X for posters they didn’t like.

Posters like Clonamery!

I see that with the dislikes now. Maybe instead keep the “maybe not“ emoji face but relabel it “Disagree”?

Dislike isn’t as confrontational as the old red X

For the sake of everyone's mental health, get rid of the cumulative ratings for individual members.

I think the totals have to stay (every board has those), but the individual ones (listed on the profile pages) will go. I agree, I'm sure a few people who see their disagree/dislike total probably occasionally go digging to see who left those.

Has the other discussion bar (listed under the main header) been a useful feature? I've noticed threads that pop up in other forums do seem to get a little more discussion, which is obviously great since that was the point - trying to make them easier for people to spot - but I wanted to ask that question in this thread as well.
