Kyed: Team likes Stidham more than Garoppolo

Dunno...name me a QB in NFL history who looked terrible in one season...only to turn it around? I can't think of one right now. Look at Mahomes....you knew he was gonna be great based on one start his rookie year... same with Brady his first year as a starter even when he threw 4 interceptions in Denver...you felt like you had something there to build on. I think a player either has "it" or doesn't....it is that simple and we should know what Stidham has after this season....if he starts.

I am not sure you understood what I was saying.

My point was the only thing we can know for certain after the season is that he might NOT be the guy if he performs badly. Even if he has a relatively good season this doesn't necessarily mean he is a franchise QB. For that he needs to show consistency and continuous growth for a couple seasons.

The probability that he completely blows the roof off like Mahomes is pretty low.

When is the last time a QB took a snap for the patriots who came into the league and got their initial coaching if NFL QBing anywhere else?
The value of learning it the Patriots way seems important.
We eschewed veteran backups forever, made no attempt to acquire a veteran in 2008 or 2014.

I was saying that while we might know that he ISN'T the guy...we also will know if he IS the guy, IMO.

I don't see how. Even if Stid totally blows everyone away and has a MVP type season he still needs to show he can do it again and again. You won't know that after one season.

If things go well you will get an above average QB who under ideal circumstances will lead the offense to a top 10 finish. That is if he keeps his poise under pressure, understands the offense + gameplan and -- maybe most importantly -- doesn't take unnecessary risks with the ball as well as with his health.

The reality is that you will have to anticipate a mixed bag with some growing pains. But as long as he keeps improving and stops repeating mistakes pretty quickly this is something to built upon.

They like him now, wait until he starts sucking, everyone turns on them lol.

This had to be the dumbest quote I've ever read.

"This isn’t coming from someone who stands to gain anything by pumping up the Patriots."

If the source has nothing to gain by pumping up the Pats then his opinion doesn't matter or he got from someone who does have something to gain. Seems odd to discredit your own source.
Or it could be from someone who has left the organization, a player or coach.

I believe the correct answer to that question is Vinny Testaverde, in 2006.

More importantly, though, part of the reason they went from 2007 to 2017 without a veteran backup was cost. Who would willingly sign up to be a veteran backup in New England, knowing that they had zero chance of winning the starting job?

You still need a backup in the event of injury.

I looked at Auburn message board to find out more about Stidham’s time there. From what I can gather he’s always been a standout in practice shorts & t-shirt. Main criticisms include happy feet in the face of a rush, becoming inaccurate and excessively panicked under pressure, and lacking intensity and leadership. For example laughing on sidelines during blowout loss to Georgia really ticked off the fan base. Many held him responsible for losses when he didn’t come through under pressure in big moments. Also some said he lacked leadership and there was a sense he was too comfortable with losing.
His apologists say he had terrible O-line and bad offensive system which explained his performances in 2018.
Probably the truth lies somewhere in the middle. courage under fire and guts in big spots are the question marks that only real game experience can answer.
Of course these are the very qualities that made Brady a HOFer.
I think that the pats need to be cautious about handing the long term keys to Stidham.

In fairness Scott, JG didn’t take SF to the Super Bowl....THEY took him! Nothing wrong with being a game manager but let’s be honest. And sadly, with game on the line for an entire quarter Jimmy....(and yes Shanahan play calling and clock management)....choked there.....We need to give Stid time and because he is coming into one of if not THE HARDEST schedule in MANY years for the Patriots......have realistic expectations!!!! Heck TFB would struggle to get 10-6 with this schedule!!!
Don’t put it all on Stid and give him time to grow!!! I personally think he will be great NFL QB! And hopefully Franchise QB here!!!
I think JS is very JG like. In fact, when they asked him if he's similar to any NFL QB, he said JG. Me personally, I saw a lot of similarities to JG. I do feel, JS has a stronger arm, not by a huge amount, but it's noticeable, BUT, JG has that quick release, one of the best in the league, very Brady like. JS has a nice release too, but not as quick as JG.

Bottom line will be production on the field. JG immediately came into San Francisco and turned a losing team around. Winning his first 5 starts for a 1 win team (at that time). Then after losing a year to a knee injury, came back this year and took the team to the Super Bowl. So yeah, they may like JS more as far as potential, but JG has proven himself big time. Hopefully JS can have a similar career as far as impact and winning.

Interesting.....can you post a LINK to that?!?! ...would like to read that!! Hopefully he succeeds here

Oh yeah? Bolded for emphasis:
“I do love the Jarrett Stidham pick,” McShay said. “Fourth round to get Jarrett Stidham, who we thought could go in the second round. For him to have a year or two or three or whatever it is — to sit in that quarterback room and learn from Tom Brady. I mean, that’s an opportunity of a lifetime for a quarterback. He’s gonna learn, and he’s gonna learn the hard way. He’s gonna make him work. But he’s gonna learn how to play quarterback in the NFL and he’s either gonna thrive or he’s gonna be out of town in a couple years. This is a great opportunity for a very talented quarterback who comes from a Baylor situation that was a mess, an Auburn offense that was not suited for him and has had a lot of tough things go on in his life and he’s overcome it. This guy’s got a lot going on physically, and he’s overcome a lot in his life. This is gonna be very interesting. I think Stidham has a chance to be the next guy, but we’re gonna find out really soon if he can mix into that quarterback room because that is not an easy room to be in.
All of these “personalities” are just entertainment assclowns with no accountability.

I did admit Brady or something like that could make sense.

If we are comparing, I like Stid's size and arm much better than Jimmy. But at this point, Jimmy is a proven starter and winner so we will see where Stid ends up.

Definitely. Quite the SB performance. Especially that 4th quarter...

Sounds great!
