I'm on Team Stidham

Yep.

One thing I do know is by the end of 2020 BB will know if Stidham is "The Guy" or not.

And his draft and free agency period proved they're not going to mortgage the entire future this year either with that unknown.

The GDT will be fun to read after he throws his first pick.

I think you meant "incompletion". These GDT overreactors don't cheat us out of entertainment value.

My apologies for not reading this whole thread before asking my question. If its already answered somewhere here - my bad.
I often read that Stidham became a fourth-rounder, because he was not utilized in auburn to his full potential/strengths. Talentwise he was considered a first-round pick before his last season.
So what does that mean? How was he utilized and how should he have been utilized?

If it's complete but not a first down that will also stir up the GDT.

I think Bill wants to build a team like the 2001 team. Get physical linebackers and rely on the defense and only ask Stidham to be a game manager. Brady was a game manager until around 2005. He didnt become the Brady that lit it up until 2006ish.

The consensus on this forum in 2004 was that Tom Brady was the best QB in the NFL, better than Peyton Manning. I was one of the few holdouts until the middle of the 2004 season.

I guess every QB in the NFL was a game manager by your definition.

AU runs kind of a funky system for a top tier program.

Their QBs work almost exclusively from the shotgun, and are often required to put their heads down and carry out ball fakes or make an RPO decision. Their QBs also are required to run quite a bit. And while Stidham is certainly more equipped to do that than someone like Brady, he's also not Cam Newton.

Beyond that, there are a ton of one-read throws that I thought were rather predictable and a ton of throws either at or behind the line of scrimmage - tunnel screens, flares to the RB, etc.

After Stidham's Junior year, Auburn lost a ton of talent on offense, and especially along the OL. Teams didn't respect the run, they were shading coverages towards Darius Slayton, etc. And the playcalling got ultra-conservative - almost nothing down the field until their final game of the year.

Very true and he lit up the last game of the year.

They wouldn't let him audible or anything like that. Plus he's got a decent coaching staff now.

My prediction for Stidham is that the Pats Braintrust will put him in a position to win as they did with Brady in '01, can see the return of the "dink and dunk" playbook.. with emphasis on YAC.

Don't see as many mid or downfield throws as we saw previously, but the emphasis will be on controlling the clock, minimizing turnovers and moving the chains..

We obviously have not seen him play, except in preseason, but gotta believe that BB and JMacD have spent a lot of time reviewing his TC & Practice tapes..

BB is not in the habit of putting a team on the field that will not compete at a high level.. do not expect that to change.

Why hasn’t Brian Lewerke got a team? All the other QBs do.

Yesterday, I watched much of Auburn-Alabama 2017 and then I watched a compilation of Stidham's throws during last preseason (not a highlight film). I was pleasantly surprised at how much better his release, pocket presence and form were. It was all better than in the Auburn game. Yes, it's preseason against subpar competition but it showed he was learning and improving.

I miss Tom Brady

I used to miss Tom Brady, but now his allegiance is to "Tompa Bay"... sometimes egos get a tad too large..
You should breathe from your oxygen tank more, you cranky old fart.
