Virtual online draft. What could go wrong?

Teams are in their individual homes communicating with each other, some likely using Zoom..
which is extremely hackable....and the Patriots get blamed.....

I don't think it's a problem for the NFL at all. Call in and make the pick. The TV show might be a fiasco, with dropped internet and guys facetiming unfiltered in the comfort of their own home.

I'm hoping that the hackers will at least be creative and have a sense of humor.

With the 23rd pick in the 2020 NFL draft, the New England Patriots select....

Cesar Ruiz, Center, University of Michigan

(Roger whispers on hot mic "Greg, quick, check the draft guide! I don't think that is Cesar Ruiz."

I don't think the people hand-wringing about hackers know too much about how computers work, or how important they already were to NFL operations.

Everyone has focused on various platforms. The old fashioned phone line works fine for contacts between the NFL and teams. Perhaps, for superstition, they can have a phone bank with lots of separate lines, say 50.

TRADES
I guess the league approves trades. For starters the team giving up their pick can call the NFL and tell them of the trade and the NFL can then call the team that now has the spot to verify the teams. Or both teams can be required to call in. Or, a conference call can be required for trades.

Seeing as how this draft will be performed on line, I can see any number of things going awry. Let's speculate. Will the hackers prevail over Herr Goodell? And if so, how?
Anticipate a Russian Hack sponsored by Jets

Will GMs just have a virtual shopping cart to add players to?

hopefully it doesn’t freeze up in checkout

Alert! Your draft selection is out of stock

Steelers GM with only 5 picks thinks for this year only, there should be 3 extra rounds.

Mel Skyper? :D

John Harbaugh is complaining (go figure) about hackers. John Harbaugh should be happy there are no OTA's, since he loses a draft pick every year for cheating during them.

The hackers might make better selections than some GMs.

The solution is to bring back the helmet phones!!

The draft used to be the teams had like three lackys in NYC, and just called them and told them to write their selection down and give it to the Commish.

You don't need to skype, myface, whatever, just call. The NFL will need a speerate phone line for each team, to make sure no one gets a busy signal. Plus hard line those phones.

Either hard lines or whatever online filing/email system they use to submit transactions like waiver claims. There was never a problem with that before (except that player who fired his agent for being late to file something...who was that again?), so I don't get why people are acting like it's an unprecedented logistical nightmare to establish a secure, fast communication system without in-person interaction.

I don't think it will be all that bad. It'll just require more use of technology than the draft usually does, but in the end the selection process will be the same - call the commish and tell him the pick.

Serious question for those of you who know the organization better than I do:

Who besides the following would BB really want in the room or on line with him if he needed a bare bones group?
Ernie A.
Steve B.
Nick C.
Jonathan and or Robert K. (it's their money)
Josh McD
Monti Ossenfort?
Maybe three or four assistants to keep track of phone numbers and the draft board itself..."speak when spoken to" sort of thing?

Phones and laptops last year
Phones and laptops this year
BFD

Land line is more secure.

Every team should have one so there is no chance of losing internet or dropping a call.

I want to revise my previous post

The TV show will be crap
And this will cause demoralizing anguish for the face painting/jersey wearing mouth breathers who live for all-male auctions and 7-man booth guru circle jerks

But the actually draft process itself:

Phones and laptops last year
Phones and laptops this year
BFD

If only the league had about 6-8 weeks to prepare for this entire situation.

It really makes you feel like you are in safe hands in terms of their prep work for the preseason / regular season.

What a bunch of bozos.
