OJ Howard On The Trading Block Per Report

Edelman would be lethal in that offense, and if Gronk had already worked out a deal, you have the skill positions on Offense to go to a SB.

With the off-season shortened and Tampa already committed to Brady for a 2 to 3 year window, having two guys in the fold with Brady that do not need any off-season work might be very helpful for the fist half of the 2020 season while the other receivers come up to speed. Working with Brady, as we saw last year, is not always easy.

Also what is Howard's real value? Does Tampa value him that highly?

None of this explains why Tampa Bay would overpay like this. Edelman's a great addition, but the Bucs already have Godwin and Evans, so they don't need to take a bath to get Edelman. And Gronk has no value for the Patriots. He can screw them at any second, just by coming out of retirement, since they can't cover his cap hit.

Wrong. Its's up to the NEP if they want to remove him from the reserve/retired list.

Gronk can say he wants to come back all he wants. He is powerless.

Not that I am saying you are wrong -- because I honestly have no idea -- but do you have a source on that ?

Favre/GB situation in 2008. Retires. Unretires. Goody approves Favre for reinstatement. Favre asks to be released. Ted Thompson tells Favre to go f himself. Thompson trades Favre to NYJ for a pick. No cap hit to GB b/c they never activated him.

Gronk does not dictate if he is activated to play. That is up to the team. Pats can activate him and trade him or release him. Thats it.

I wasn't sure if anything here has changed in the two following CBAs. But if that is still the case then Gronk really has absolutely zero leverage.

Same thing w/ Lynch. He retired. Wanted to come back. Negotiated a deal w/ OAK and SEA traded his rights to OAK w/o clearing space.

The motivation for SEA is they got something for basically nothing.

Lol @ Raiders

No kidding.

Actually for siting out a year, in 2017 he had a pretty good year for OAK. Not a bad trade for them all things considered.

My issue with the valuation of that trade is less about Howard and more about the notion we could get a 2 for a 34 year old WR with a "system player" label and a guy who's been retired and fully out of football shape for over a year (and wasn't that great when he did play most recently).

I am no football talent scout so I can not answer your questions - it is all dependent on TB and the Pats' evaluation. Elijah states the "trade is less about Howard" and Deus does not even address the fact that PatsFans might be overvaluing Howard. But Howard's value is important if the deal proposed is for "Howard plus a 2nd round pick". Possibly TB and the Pat's do not value Howard's talent highly, as Bruce Arien's says "Its not showing up on Sunday". Why would the Pats want to trade and sign a 5th year for a 1st round disappointment?

Howard is a first round pick with 2 years of control left if his option gets picked up, and with no need to a contract to be signed in order to get him via trade. Tampa's 2nd round pick is #45 overall.

Gronk is a retired football player. Edelman is a 34 year old WR coming off a season of multiple injuries.

Didnt Gronk retire under contract?

If so, NE holds his rights. Otherwise, NFL players all over the keague could retire, sit out 1 season and then sign with any team that they like.

If Brady wants Edelman, Tampa will do everything reasonably in their power to get him there.

Correct. Gronk can't take a dump w/o permission from BB

Tampa Bay literally said Hell No to Antonio Brown. I don't think they will do anything foolish just to please Brady. But if the offer for OJ Howard is fair, then of course they'd consider it.

What if we traded an extra DBack for Howard ? Tampa's weakness is their secondary but have 2 starting TEs.
